View Full Version : Can Capriati become Nš1 before Oz Open?

Dec 30th, 2001, 04:06 AM
She's now playing the Hong Kong Ladies Challenge (January 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th). Does this tournament give points to the ranking?

What about the Adidas Internaional, is she scheduled to play there? Cause Lindsay and her are only ten points away from each other, and Lindsay's got lots of points to defend. But I think as the Oz Open and the AI are very close in dates, so there will be no changing in the draw.

Venus: What tournaments will she play before the AO??

I think the hong kong Challenge is just an exhibition event. Cause did Jelena and Anna not play the final last year? I recall articles debating wether or not it would count as a first title it Anna won (Jelena was the victor anyhow).

I am under the impression that if Jenn does better than last years performance at Sydney (1st or 2nd round?), and Lindsay doesn't improve upson last years result of the final, that Jenn will get that extra 10 points needed to pass Lindsay.

Yes, Jenn will be No. 1 before OZ Open. I think Jennifer has 2nd round or quarterfinals points at Sydney while Lindsay has finals points. So unless Jenn loses first round and Lindsay wins the event, expect Jenn to be No. 1 ranked at the AO.

Though she will be seeded No. 2 at the AO cuz seeding occurs after this week!

I hope she gets to be no. 1 this year too. Even if it's just for the week before the Aus Open.

Yeah, but then again she'll most likey lose it after the AO!

She can be No. 1 before the Australian Open BUT she can't get seed #1 at the Australian Open because the draw will release on Thursday or so(Sydney week!)

Lindsay is seed #1 at the Australian Open!

So why doesn't she play Gold Coast or Auckland cause that will pick her up a few points and she'll probably would've been the #1 seed at the Australian Open plus giving her a few more weeks at #1?

There s hardly any difference being the number 1 seed or number 2 seed, other than the name. No point for Jennifer to play another tourny just for that.

I really hope Jen will regain her No.1 ranking after the Sydney tourney!!!

I hope Jen gets it so that, when Monica beats her, Monica gets bonus points for beating the #1 in a grand slam.

Interesting point Justin - it will backfire if Monica doesn't even get a chance at Jenny, due to the draw, or one of them getting beat first

I'm pretty sure she will be #1 right before AO ... Serena is gonna win Sydney so Davenport won't improve her points (being #1 she will have less quality points to gain this year!) and I think JCap will pass through the 2nd round (she lost last year against Lisa Raymond!)!

Well we don't really know what it's gonna happen but for sure if JCap is not #1 before AO that will mean she lost very early in Sydney and she hasn't recovered her form of last year .... and she won't probably do well at the AO!!!
