Kind of scary that she's split with Momo and Zvonareva.

But I still think Lena should win. She seems happy and confident.

Well, by the looks of it, Linetskaya has been gradually improving all year. I didn't think too much of her, until you posted that record. Now I'm a little worried....

Linetskaya has moved up from #95 to #37 in less than 3 months.
She was #201 last April.
She moves well, and has power. Lena can attack her serve.

Well, by the looks of it, Magdalena has been consistent. No bad losses there. I think Elena should be able to handle her though. She looks to be struggling against the top players at this point, although she took a set of Alicia recently, so Elena should be careful.

Here is one interview from this tournament:
http://au.news.yahoo.com/050411/15/tww3.html

Fully-fit Dementieva ready for claycourt season

CHARLESTON, South Carolina, April 11 (Reuters) - Russian Elena Dementieva makes a belated start to the claycourt season at the Family Circle Cup this week, the first step on what she hopes will lead to glory at next month's French Open.

The world number five lost to compatriot Anastasia Myskina in the final at Roland Garros last year and was then beaten by another Russian, Svetlana Kuznetsova, in the U.S. Open final.

The hip injury that caused her to miss last week's Amelia Island Championship has cleared up and having risen to a career-high number five this year, the 23-year-old will be among the favourites in Paris.

"I think last year was amazing for me, reaching two grand slam finals," she said.

"And when you've been in two grand slam finals, the next thing is to win one."

Though she beat several top 10 players on her way to the finals in Paris and New York, Dementieva has been criticised for her weak serve, which has been her Achilles heel over the past couple of years.

The Russian has been working hard to improve it, but said she doesn't see it as a significant weakness.

"I think I took a big lesson from the finals," she said. "I know I have to improve my serve but I really don't think it's a problem.

"In practice and in exhibitions I am serving well. I just need to keep doing that. I am a tall girl and my serve can really help me but I can't worry about it when I get on the court. I just have to go out and play."

Such is the strength of the rest of her game that many feel Dementieva would be pushing for the world number one spot if she had a serve comparable to her rivals, particularly Lindsay Davenport and Serena Williams.

Dementieva, though, said it was not that simple.

"Just look at Andy Roddick," she said. "He has the biggest serve on the men's tour and he's not the number one because other parts of his game are not so good.

"I think it's more important to have the desire and the other parts of your game."

Dementieva's desire is not in question, and her consistency, athleticism and competitiveness make her a factor every week she plays.

This week, though, the Russian warned not to expect too much of her.

"I feel pretty good," she said. "I really couldn't play last week but my hip is getting better and I'm ready to play.

"But this is my first week on clay so it's going to be quite difficult because it's definitely more work on clay."

Dementieva, seeded second here behind world number one Lindsay Davenport, will open her title challenge on Tuesday or Wednesday against fellow Russian Alina Jidkova in the second round.

mm yeah ur right Capt, but i saw some matches from Morigami on clay, and she was good so i expect a tough begin for Lena, all she needs is to find her rythm, then it'll be a walkover IMO.

Should i make a prediction again?, yeah ur right Strato, i was right in the sets and win for Lena

Exactly. Draws, H2H, recent results--everything goes out the window with Lena.

Only constant is the Nastya curse. Otherwise, Lena can beat or lose to anyone on the tour, no rhyme or reason.

Guyz, I have to tell you that Schruff isn't a n easy job for Lena. This Girl from germany plays very good tennis. She has beaten Myskina last year. and Pennetta. I expect a tough three setter against Lena.

Dementinator
Jan 14th, 2006, 11:59 AM
Well If Lena struggles badly in this match ,we can forget about her going very far at all ,she should be ableto win this reasonably comfortably ,good as Schruff can be ,shes ranked in the 80s and Lena has to stamp her auhtority ,if she cant overcome a player ranked there ,she aint gonna beat Jankovic or Petrova let alone anyone better so I am hoping for a 2 setter ,maybe a tentative start which is typical Lena say a 7-5 or 7-6 even first set ,but then Lena must crush her in set 2 or else its a failiure and i cant have high hopes for anything else..

I want to see a 6-4, 6-2 drubbing. Of course she's rusty, so if she loses a set, it's not the end of the world.

However, I agree with whoever said she should make the semis. She should.

Stand up Elena, Roland Garros is waiting! In 2004 Lena lost as well in the first round of the Aussies and then she walked into the final at RG. Why not again?

Ortisei's draw was tougher than some WTA TIVs. So if Domachowska reached the final, she's likely to be playing better than last year when I saw her on teevee.

Yet another opponent Lena has never played against. Top players seem to brush Domachowska aside easily, but from what I've seen of her she can miss a shot by miles in a point and hit a superb winner in the next.

Prizeidiot

Domachowska is an odd one. I'm actually a big fan of hers, so I'm dreading this match up.

But Marta has a lot of weaponry. She reminds me of Elena in a way, but she's even less consistent than that. As you said, she can hit brilliant winners one point, then hit awful errors. Double faults as much as Elena, but it's pretty big when it goes in.

Well done, Lena! 6:3 6:2 (1h 06 min on court). 8 DF's (5 first set + 3 second). So, according to this fact, if there were NO double faults, the score would be 6:0 6:0.
Total DF's of 3 matches: 16+18+8 = 42. Well... 3 times more than anyone else? ...
Next for Lena is Ana Ivanovic (8). It's gonna be Lena's most tough match here... But isn't the score 5:7 6:4 6:4 extremely tough? No!! For Lena the score - 6:7 7:6 7:6 - this is TOUGH! :bounce:

Well, I don't expect Lena to win the final as 20 hours is simply is not enough to recover from such tense, energy consuming match...
Sure, she can beat sharpie but not now - wait till nasdaq there she will be able to crash her for sure.
Obviously she picks up on an opponent when one is out of steam.. provided she still has enough energy for that but now there has been literally no time to refuel... that's my prediction.. she aint robot, though many of you expect her to be, as i see...

yes i tend to agree ,I think PHYSICALLY ,theres no problem ,Lenas incredible in that department and can take it all ,but MENTALLY its hard to regroup after such a battle ,so I do give the edge to MS ,but I still say that ELena can beat Masha ,she did in the Hong Kong Tourny ...

Time for Lena's next match. She will face Anna Tatishvili today on Court 1. It will be the third match on that Court. Lena has never played Tatishvili before. The Georgian teen is 16 years old and ranked 1144 in the official WTA Rankings. But!!!!! She has beaten Mirza in the first round!

6:3 6:1. Easy win. Quick. It's good to save energy. Lena even had 2 ACES!!! And 10 DF's. And 20 winners... And 34 UE's (so did Tatishwili - 34 UE's against 8 winners).
P.S. Both Clijsters and Henin-Hardenne are blown out of the tournament by Craybas and Shaugnessy respectively. Justine couldn't find herself after 6:2 5:7 5:7 loss to Lena. This fact gives a pretty good chance to Lena for the title. Wish you another quick win over Krajicek.

That would be great the problem is that Lena has worked together with Mias's brother Richard so maybe he can give his sister some important tips how to beat Lena! I am a bit afraid!

I think the key as usual is serve and return of Elena. The return is world class, the serve goes up and down. I am happy Elena is playing back to back days, that will help her maintain her rythmn.

Good luck against Misa :)

Mar 26th, 2006, 06:20 PM
Misa may pose a real threat.. just checked her H2H and found that she's not lost a single match to any1 out of top 10 recently... so its not just she and her brother know Lena's game but also her powerfull game... Taken this all into account I still think Lena can manage to get past her... but she will need to play her best tennis to do that...
So, best of luck to Lena! :)
