Hello everyone. It's getting warmer and warmer.
The season is spring. I hope it'll keep getting just warmer.
Is everybody ok with the hay fever? Many people around me complain itchy eyes and running nose...but I am still ok. I am afraid when I would get that. Looks very tough if you get the hay fever!!

Ok, let's talk about tennis.
After the treatment in Italy, I played at Dubai tournament. The treatment didn't reallyget the complete recovery, but it surely got much better. I feel a bit relieved that I found the doctor and could go back to him anytime. The doctor comes to the tournaments like GSs and FedCup with the Italian team, and he'll be in Miami next week too. so it's very nice.

Speaking of the matche, I had the very first win of the year! only once tho, I could play my game. I was happy. On the 2R against Schiavone, I had a chance, but towards the end of the match, I was running out of gas totally.

Anyway, those two tournaments, I felt like I finally began my season. During the tournaments, I did a lot of physical training too. Hopefully I can play my best tennis around when I play in Paris! a step by step, but I need all well-balanced in physical, footwork and everything. To show you all my best and fine tennis, I'll keep doing my best, so please give me your support!

Season's changing now, so take care of yourself!

With Love, Ai

Hello everyone. Sorry...and I know it's been a month already since the last entry!! This pace isn't good huh? I should keep writing diaries more often.
Anyway, it's getting warmer here in Japan!!
This time, I stayed in Japan for 10 days or so... the weather was nice, and the stay became a really good one!

Let's talk about the trip to America.
I could advance to the 3rd round and a little bit, but I could play tennis my tennis. I can't play the tennis style I want to play without my good fitness level. so I could have motivation for the training again.

but, during the tournaments, I realized that I still don't have enough stamina to play for one week. The more I advance in rounds, the higher the level gets, of course. The quality of the play is required. Right now I don't have that. Nowadays, whoever you play it's tough, but having physical and mental toughness is the requirement for me to be a top player. I'll just keep myself hard efforts and I just need to do it!!

Ok, so this time in Japan.
Towards the European tour, I practiced at the tennis club I used to practice when I was a junior player. The surface is a bit different, but that'd be the same at any tournaments anyway...so I'll need to adjust to the surface difference and try to play better for the FO.

While staying in Japan, I had a few interview sessions, and ate out with friends...I was so busy, and I like being busy!
Before going to bed, I was arranging my schedule for "tomorrow...and I was so happy and couldn't sleep much! When I am not in Japan, I usually sleep for 9 hours easy!! It's so fun to be in Japan...so sleeping is kinda waste!!
By the way, there's a thing I like from a convenience store. You can find it at Yogurt or Pudding section.... It's called "Tonyuu Hana (Soy Milk Pudding??)... the syrup is black-honey... If you like those kind, try it! Everytime I see it, I eat it!! It's so yum!!

Ok, I'll enjoy playing on the red clay starting from next week.
Please cheer me up again!!

With Love, Ai

Hello everyone. How did you spend Golden Week Holidays?(Apr 29-May 5)
It's hard to get the rythm to work normally again after the loooong break.
I've experienced like that lately...so I understand the feeling. After getting used to it, it'll be no problem tho!

Okay, it's been over two weeks since I came to Europe.
The first week's Berlin and the second week's Rome.
The fitness level is almost coming back, but my mental side didn't come with it in Berlin, and I played so terribly there.
I couldn't control my feeling even from practice...so I couldn't do any better during the match.
so that was the lesson, and I left for Rome.

During this European tour, I play doubles with Dani til Wimbedon. I could finally win some doubles matches too. I kept losing in the 1r for a while... it's always nice to win matches! With Dani, our playing is getting better and better.

It was really freezing in Berlin. I wore long sleeves and long pants to play even though I often get warm! When I was watching a game there, one of the Japanese fans offered me a cafelatte!! saying "it's very cold, isnt it!!" What a nice person! It's so nice to see many Japanese fans out there. Of course, fans who always check my website, I should appreciate more than anything too! Thanks!!!

The week after Berlin is, my favorite city, Rome's tournament. Rome got so much nicer weather. The surface is a bit faster too...so which fits me more. The first two rounds' opponents got similar play styles, so it was easier for me to play my own tennis. The third round's opponent was pumped-up Schiavone. My coach told me that I even lost the match just by that (pumping?).
I started becoming a better friend with this clay court a little...so I hope I can do better for the FO.
My original plan was... going to Paris a week before and practice... but I want to play a few more matches...so I decided to enter the Strousburg tournament. I need more matches for the adjustment. To give you a bunch of power and energy, I'll use them and play at the FO! Please check out my matches on WOWOW!!

Ok, take care of yourself.

She wants to play more matches!
That's a good sign, I think.
She wants to play more=her top condition is almost there!!

Good luck, Ai!!

It was so funny to read about Schiavone!

Haha...She's so funny...she clearly still enjoys playing and competing which is greeeaaaatttt to hear. I don't get the sense that she's too fond of Schiavone, especially after what happened at the USO 2 years ago. Any thing else she say about Schiavone? She sounds so up beat!

maybe... but that's a japanese way!
and maybe Ai's an experienced player now...so she might feel that that was just another match... maybe, i dunno...but at the bottom of her heart, I am sure she wouldnt want to play her again...

May 30th.

Hello everyone. It must be getting warmer in Japan too huh?
It's extremely hot here in Paris... still May, but over 30s!! crazy.
but I enjoy being in warm than in freezing...

Unformatunately, my french open of this year is already done...
Thank you so much for everyone who gave me lots of supports.
Anywho, I couldn't do my tennis at all this time, I am so disappointed to myself as well. I was playing better and better...so I felt like "here it comes"...

I had lots of good practice...but couldn't do those during the match...so I felt like what I practiced for!?!?
I just hope to match with my feeling and physical balance and everything... just training and everyday's practice are needed for me now.

I promise! I'll show you my best and cherring tennis for ya soon. so, my plan is changed...I'll stay here in Europe a bit, take a rest and resume my training again. I would like to enjoy the grass court again.
The juniors will begin tomorrow. Ayumi Morita whom we often practice with is playing here. Last month, she became the youngest pro in Japan. She was a finalist in Belgium last week. In the final, she just lost in a tie breaker... but she seems to play very well. I'm looking forward to seeing her play here at Paris... I'll just go to the supporting side.

Ok, to give you a good news, I'll just "keep fighting"!!
Take care of yourself too, okay? Ciao!

With Love, Ai

Hello everyone. I heard the rainy season began in Kanto (The greater Tokyo) area too. How are you doing?
I really don't like humidity and rain... those gave me some headache...so I would avoid being in Japan that time.

Last year, after the FO, I went back to Japan, but it kept raining...I practiced indoor all the time.. so I stayed in Europe and played one more tournament.

It usually rains here in Birmingham...but this year is a different story. Good weather stays... I heard tomorrow isn't going to be that good...but fingers crossed for the sun.

This tournament is all for Sharapon (Sharapova).
Well, I do think her popularity gives lots of good influences on tennis...so it's a good thing, I think... the tournament does everything for her...so "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...." I am sure I am not the only one who thinks this way...

Playing all around the world, I can see each tournament is so different. No matter how big the prize money or tournament is, how different the tournament thinks about audiences, players and tennis. That makes a huge different, and that's the key element when I select tournaments to play. If I play, I'd like to play comfortably! and with the feeling, I'd like to do the best for the tournament too.

Maybe a little by little, my tennis is coming back at this tournament. I was really disappointed in Paris, and coulnd't really switch the feelings...
Oh, from this week, new staff arrived from Japan, Coach Takata from Palms (her tennis academy) and Mr. Karube from Sports Aroma. Coach Takata is not a full time, but he comes to the tour with me once in a while. He writes his diaries on the web often...so you could check my info there more than here, maybe... When you get a chance, please check his site too.

Tomorrow is my doubles semi-final.
I am just going to do a bunch of service and volley. Until Wimbledon, I'll team up with Daniela, and we have spent some good time together! We'll do the best and enjoy our tennis!

Take care of yourself too!!

With Love, Ai

Oh my, finally! 20s to 30s, a big step (up)?
Feels like it's a big difference, but I'll try to improve myself as a woman!

I started practicing from today.
Hopefully the play at Wimbledon was a good for myself, I hope I can do well on American tour.

Thank you for the wonderful messages and presents.
Those relaxing items are great when I go on a tour.
I'll use them!

The whole last week, my friends threw me a party and had wonderful time. These fun time gives me a lot of energy. Keeping each other updated, joking around, singing at karaoke... feels very releved! not that I have lots of stress...

Time flies by when I am in Japan. I need to leave for America soon. This trip will be 2 months...very long.
Usually I start from San Diego, but so far this year has been this...so I decided to go early and try for Cincinati. I really like the summer in the states...so looking forward to it.
Hope I can play like myself again...so give me lots of supports!

Finally my come back!
Thank you for waiting, all!
Even though I lost in final, I could play my tennis all week and could be a finalist both on singles and doubles!
To the people who have supported me since the beginning of the season, I really want to say "thank you" from the bottom of my heart.

It's been three weeks since the American series began. It has been hard three weeks. My engine didn't really start well at Cincy, and there I talked to my team till the morning a lot... all team member seriously thought about me and we discussed a lot. To not make same mistakes all the time, we just kept practicing and practicing. Without their help, I didn't think I would come back to this level again. I feel so lucky to be around them. I really need to appreciate them!

This week is LA...but I should refresh more and will be ready for Canada next week. I'll do my best again. I hope I can be the real "Ai Sugiyama" again at USO, so please keep supporting me as usual!
I know it should be really hot in Japan now...but take care of yourself!!

With Love, Ai
(AI's coach, mom's message)
Dear Ai's fans,

Thank you all for supporting always!
From the beginning of the last year, she hurt her left foot, and additionally, last October, she twisted her left ankle... her tennis was coming back... and plus her result didn't follow her up much... it had been really hard for us.
We have realized that the keyword for this tennis tour is enjoyment and hard physical training. In July, we looked for a new staff member who can work us really hard, but with lots of fun.

After the Wimbledon, we recruited Mr. Hiruma and Mr. Umagi(sp?). With Mr. Hiruma, since the Wimbledon, almost everyday, we run on the beach...training on the beach... he's with us on this trip and he takes care of Ai's body and her mental support as well.

Among these 40 days, how many days Ai didn't do training?
Only 2 days. We've been making effors a bit by big.. how lucky we are that we got the last week's result so soon!

I think this is just a passing point..so we'll keep trying harder. Please give us more support! Thank you. Fusako Sugiyama

I came home!! How are you, everyone?
It's still been warm here in Japan!

I learned a lot this US Open... well, more at the whole US hardcourt season.
My physical part has improved and widen my game plans... also learned what to do next such as serving and more netplays... not only the groundstrokes... I'd like to become a player who has lots of tactics by using the whole court.

Kim!! Finally, she did it!!
Well, she really "beat me up" in tennis... up to 4-1 in second, I couldn't do any tennis of mine... just see her strength.
I knew she would do it sometime...so she became a champion as she was supposed to be.
I've been really a good friend with her off court as well... her energy and positive attitude are very attractive and everybody loves her.
When she won, I was really glad she did!
Well, she had a potential!
When I played doubles with her, I got lots of great energy from her. I hope I'll become a person who gives lots of energy too.

All GSs are done now... I'll play 5 more tournaments.
I feel like I am finally playing my tennis now and enjoying it.
Hope I can finish up this year in a good form.
I assume it'll be stay warm here... take care of yourself!

pcrtennis, hehe... you are early!! :p

I am home!! I just came home from Asian tour.
How are you doing?
Well, this time, it was only 2week short trip, but flight from Japan is really short to Asia!! Very comfortable!! It was my first time in Beijing and first time in 7 years in Seoul!!

let's start from Beijiing. I was not planning to play there, but I started enjoying playing tennis...so asked for a wildcard.
During this tournament, we used tennis balls that men used... it was heavier than usual.. When I hit, the ball doesnt go far... some players hurt shoulder, elbows, etc... I thought women should use the balls we usually use!

There was still something to improve for me after this tournament too.
It's clear what to do... To win consistently, I need to keep being aggressive, also I need constant physical energy to keep winning for a whole week.

Last year's off season, I was ready!! but I got injured and I had to be lazy... so I am really looking forward to this year's off season... I am happy to feel that way.

I've been to Shanghai three times...but it was my first time to be in Beijing... so I did lots of tourist stuff... I went to the Great Wall!
This country is impressive!! People from long long long time ago made this!?!? I was speechless. 10,000 kilometers!! The guide simply told me that the other edge is Russia...and this side of the edge is Mongolia... wow..
There were two roads...one was easy, the other was hard... since there were so many people at the easy course... I chose the hard side... It was hard to climb...but I just came to a bit far... I was really glad I went there! I recommend you to visit there!
Other than that... I went to a craving factory and the factory that makes silk... Ah, I enjoyed Beijing!!

Seoul was really comfortable too! The tournament was Tier 4...small...but the tournament organization was excellent!!! All players spent there comfortably. I feel at many places that the tournament welcomes players... how comfortable the player lounge is... services...and cares... everything was perfect here. That makes us want to come back there next year. The more players feel that way, the tournament would be more success, I believe it's a good cycle!!

Till next year, I'll practice more Korean!!
Ok, this week's Japan Open!! I really want everyone to come to the tournament! I hope my week will be the good one!! Please give me your support!!

good, i beat ya, pcrtennis...

Hello everyone. First, I'd like to say "thank you!!".
At the Japan Open last week, thank you so much for everyone to come to the tournament even on weekdays and giving me lots of supports.
I felt like it was going to be an easy win on the first...but during the second, it suddenly became the tiebreaker...and I was in danger...
The second round, I thought I was almost done... but your support reached me, I think...I could manage the win somehow!

Since the summer, my footwork has come back, but to reach what I am aiming in tennis, I'd need more physical strength...to play aggressively.
Around this time of the last year, I felt a bit down and my motivation was a bit low.It was hard time...but this year, I am already ready for the offseason and next season...I feel happy to be able to think like this.

The beginning of the year, I kept losing..so I feel a bit suprised that I am in top 30 now. I know this is a tough time for me... but for the next season, I'd LOVE to be in top30.
so, I'll play three more tournaments as hard as possible. I am in Zurich right now, and in Linz next week. I'll play in Philly for the last...this is the last travelling around the world this year. I'll try to get as MANY points as possible! Give me a cheering support~!

It's getting colder...so take care of youself.

With Love, Ai

Love how excited she seems about next season! That's great to hear!!! She's playing Philly now? That's ogod though I think she would have a had a shot at the title in Quebec. Love her attitude, great that she think sshe needs to get stronger...I agree! Even though she's already one of the fittest players on tour! Hope she continues to play well in Zurich and the other tournaments!!!

I am also surprised she's managed to stay in the top 30...if she finishes in the top 30 at the end of the year that will be a very impressive accomplishment after the start she had this year! Go Ai!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, she has some points to defend the next few weeks... so hope she gets to stay inside top 30!!

I kinda know the feeling that she mentioned from my tennis career...
Maybe at one point (when she was top 10), her tennis was great...maybe everything was close to what she designed to play...
Once you know the feeling... you might play ok tennis, but you'd feel a bit disappointed how you play...

She might be playing agressive and moving well now too... but maybe a little more confidence what she's doing might help... maybe...

Anyhow, can't wait she's playing well against top players again!
also, i hope she and daniela get lots of points in dubs too!!

Last tournament!
How are you doing, everybody?
I am in Philly where holds the season ending tournament.
It's getting cold in Japan now? Here in Philladelphia, it's warmer than usual, and during the day time we can wear T-shirts.
But, this is an indoor tournament...so I am losing my tan...and stain comes up only.... Oh my... After I finish my career, I should use laser or something to burn it...

Anyhow, I said I'd like to finish within top 30!
I guess I can do that this year! I haven't won many, but got a few points each... It's so different with seed or not... If I was unseeded, I'd have to play seeded players at early round... it'd be tough.

Today, I won the first round, and the next is Mauresmo.
I know it's tough, but she's not at her best right now...so I'll do my best!

Once the season is over, I'll refresh myself...and I have a big plan and look forward to it!!! Playing golf, going to hotsprings, spa... Sounds good huh.
Only a vacation in a year..so I'll enjoy it!

Also, this year again, I'll see you all at the fan event. I am looking forward to playing tennis with you! See you soon!

Don't catch cold and take care of yourself!

Not sure which one... but

Possibly Fan Club event in winter...

or the Prince sponsored fan event...
or maybe when Sharapova comes to Japan... they have some events with fans too.

This is a message from Ai! IN ENGLISH! About English! She's such a cool sounding person! So intelligent!

1) Practice makes perfect

"Rerorerore, reroreroru ... "
This is the "English" I used to speak to myself while going to kindergarten. Even though I had no idea what it meant, I amused myself by imitating things in the belief that I could speak English. The English I would hear on TV would fascinate me.
My mother, seeing me in this state, bought me toys that spoke short English phrases that matched the picture cards after they were passed through a machine.
Listening to them became part of my daily routine, a habit I never got tired of. I found it more fun than anything. While going out in the car, I would listen to tapes of fun stories told in both English and Japanese. Although the tapes were lengthy, I could guess the following sentences, and I was excited to speak out the stories before they were heard on the tape.
Since then, this habit of "speaking English by mouthing the words after listening to the tape" became my method of mastering English.
Afterward, I learned various ways of expression through playing and watching my favorite videotapes -- such as "Pretty Woman" and "Dead Poets Society" -- over and over again.
I went on a tennis road trip to the United States during my sixth-grade winter holiday from school. That's when I heard English for real. While getting a sense that I was starting to understand things, I was also determined to speak and improve my comprehension.
So at the time, I learned one thing at a time by persistently asking my mother, who was traveling with me, questions like, "How do you say this?" or "What's this?"
Back then, I hadn't dreamed that English would become a useful and daily tool as it is for me now. It was simply my desire to speak with friends around the world that has improved my English.
The pattern of going overseas to practice, and returning to Japan to study has been extremely useful. English is the common language of tennis tours, regardless of what countries the players are from, and meetings and news conferences are in the language.
My enjoyment of a tour is linked in large to the enjoyment of speaking English.
In the future, I want to polish my English even more and experience the cultures of the world, thereby communicating with the large number of people I meet.

With Love, Ai.

Yee haaaw! Off season's here!

Everybody, thank you very very much for giving me a big support this year again.
I was worried what was going to be like at the first half of the season...
But, looking at my side...around... the team Ai was with me...and encouraged me and trained with me all the time... I really feel lucky to be around those nice people.

Now I can stand here...and could finish within top 30... those are becase of the all efforts of team Ai.
Also, your big support was counted on even when I was good or bad. Thanks.

My whole "off-season" is done... and I am thinking of stating off my training now. During the off-season, I went to a hot spring, spa, golf and good food!! I enjoyed and relaxed!! I want to play golf better!! I need to do better on green... I think my shots are ok... but the score comes with good patting.
I am not sure how many more I can play golf this year...but if I get the score that I'd be satisfied...I'll report to you guys!

This year, we'll have a fan event as well...and will play against Sharapova to...so if you can, please come see me!!
Looking forward to seeing ya all!

A Happy New Year!
Once the year 2006 begins, the new tennis season also began! I didn't really have an atmosphere of new year's, and here I am at the tournament.
As usual, I decided to start from Gold Coast.
It's extremely hot here! additing to that, it's humid!! It kills me! It'll be around 40c (105f?) tomorrow. I'll have some attempts to adjust to this heat, but it's been tough!
Well, once the match begins, nothing I can do about it... so I'll just try to focus on the game... can I do it... well, I'll just do it!

Well, what I want to accomplish in 2006.
Through the year, I'll take care of my physical and mental conditions, and just day by day, I'll do my best.
Also, I'd like to update this diary more often too. I'd like to share my feelings and experiences on the tour more.

I really hope your 2006 year will be wonderful.
I hope my year will be great too.
Oh, I almost forgot. During the off season, I went to play golf four times. My average score was in late 90s... the shot itself was getting better, but it didn't really show up in the score... well, I didn't practice..so I can't complain.
My mom, even though she didn't practice too read magazines and watched golf channel and still had great forms. Her score was around early 90s!! It would help just checking some good players forms. Same as tennis huh.

I dont think I can play lots of golf once the season begins, but I'll try more slow by slow.
Ok, take care, everybody. I'll do my best against the heat!

With Love, Ai

Hello everyone.
How are you doing? It's getting warmer in Japan now?
I am now in Miami.
The Nasdaq 100 tournamet has just begun from Wed.
My first match which was the second round (I got a bye for the 1st round) was today. I played against Schruff whom I also played in quarter at this year's Doha, and won with 1 and 1. That was a good match.

This year, the weather is drier than usual here...I am getting used to the humidity now...but here, Miami has heat, humidity, wind, rain...anything can happen here.. so I am just ready for anything here.
http://www.ai-sugiyama.com/diary/img/spacer.gifRight now, playing tennis is just FUN! I know what I need to do for improvement now...and keep practicing and training here. I feel like I am improving everyday.
Probably, this is the greatest moment in my career!
But, yeah, there are lots of rooms for the improvement, still. I'll just do it one by one then.

I'll go to this french restaurant which is my favorite in Coconut Grove today!!
Send me a lot of emails again!!

April 11, 2006

Hello everyone. It's been cold even though it's already April.
How are you doing?

Since I came back (to Japan), I've been enjoying my off-time on this usual golf course.
Hot springs, spa, good food and golf! This time, it was a three-generation golf with my grand mother, mother and sister. My grand mother is 82 year-old, but she's very energetic! She can still play golf with us!

She really hates losing, so I feel like I am getting the blood from her.
I need to appreciate her for that character since that's what I need for my career!

Speaking of golf, the score was ok... it was 100.
Last off season, I kept having the scores of 90s. This time, my patting wasn't that good.
My sister had her best at 2 under. Her golf was excellent and I really admired her golf!

I have to improve woods from fairway... I like irons, but I dont feel like hitting well with wood clubs.
Yeah, I just need to keep practicing.

I never have time these days. I wish a day was like 30 hours! I used to play golf during touring, but now I spend a lot for warm up, cooling down, and training during the offtime. so a day goes by so quickly.
During offtime, I should rest my body too... but that means my tennis is doing well.

Well, I can play golf later (after tennis)...so now I just focus on tennis then.
Next week, I'll play Fedcup at Ariake against Switzerland.
Hingis and Snyder won't come to Japan, but who knows what's going to happen. This is a team-match!
Please come to support us! I'm waiting for you at Ariake.

I heard the weather is going to be bad from tomorrow... Take care of yourself, k?

Apr 25 Diary Entry
Hello everyone. Fed Japan Team won!

We now advanced to the playoff for the next year's World Group I.
For many, those who came to Ariake on weekends, thank you so much.?
We, players really enjoy playing in front of so many fans. We are very lucky!

Ok, let me talk about my play a bit.
The training camp was excellent mentally and physically... it was a good feeling to play my tennis... the more I am playing well, the harder I tend to push myself... On Monday that week, my left thigh was hurt a bit.

I didn't practice too much, and had treatments everyday...
The pain didn't go away..and the weekend came.
I couldn't really step in and my groundstrokes were not that consistent. Frustration was there for sure, but I had to accept all that I had, and I could win the game anyhow.
The opponent was in lower ranking, but they're still young and they'd be coming to the top group soon.

Well, looking back at this weekend, I really like a team match!!
I can feel the pressure that I don't usually get, and work with other teammmates... it's even happier to share with them when we win! I can't wait for the play off!

Now, I need to focus on rehabilitation on my thigh.
After that, I'll practice for Europe tour.
I can stay in Japan for one more week...I need to enjoy.

Oh yea, I just purachsed a steam mist (?) that I can do spa things at home (?)... I thought it's too late (age-wise..)... well, it's never too late isnt it?

Ok, everyone, take care of yourself.

With Love, Ai

Everybody, it's been a long time!
I apologize... this is the first diary since I came to Europe right?!

This year's French Open just began today.
Sunday is the first day this year...earlier than the usual.
I thought top players or French players would play today...so I didn't think that I'd have to play on the first game of the day!

A~nd, it was the first win on clay!!
Nothing is better than winning!!
It'd be useless to play the game that I could do during the practice.

No idea how I could lose from there right? Speechless!
Well, it's true she was getting much better towards the end.
But, I was the one who made her play better.
I should not have lost today's game.

Mmm... very regrettable and this emptiness, but nothing I can do about it.
I just need to release this stress on doubles!!

Today, I had the 3rd round of our doubles match.
The opponent was "cooking" Peer and Bartori. At the beginning, their play was excellent. It suddenly went down to 1-6, 1-4.

From the second, we changed the strategy and it didn't really work at the beginning.
However, from 1-4, it started being worked!
It's funny... especially in doubles, the game started leaning towards us, their play started being different... after we got the 2nd set tiebreaker, we could do our play and got the 3rd, 6-2.
it was close huh...

We'll play the second seeded, Stubbs and Black next.
We defeated them last time in Roma... so we'll just do what we have.

With Love, Ai

Yep ^^ I really hope they go out there and *seize* this opportunity. This would be a huge win for their partnership, and it'd be a step closer to the eluslive Grand Slam title =) I believe they can go all the way... I have faith.

They play second on Lenglen tomorrow, after Dechy/Zvonareva vs M Garrigues/Daniilidou.

I really hope they win this title, it'd make all of Roland Garros a success after so many disappointments (in my eyes, anyways) and it would be such a booster for the Grass season. Them with confidence => DEADLY :armed: LOL. Okay, well, now I'm just rambling on, talking to myself...

EDIT: I said I think they can go all the way, we all do; I think the big difference now, is that they believe they can go all the way.

One more to go!!
Yes, we advanced to the final!
The semi's opponents were the Chinese pair who are the AO champ so it was a tough fight but we could play very tough against them.

We need more patience on this surface compared to the others.
Especially playing against like today's opponents, you have to hit steady groundstrokes, otherwise you wouldn't get any points. You just have to be aggressively with patience.

The next opponent is the first seeded pair, Raymond and Stouser.
It'll be a different style of game tomorrow, but we'll just have to do what we have to do.

Also, please support for this boy who's doing well in Boys' tournament.
Kei Nishikiori also advanced to the final in the boy's doubles. (Note: He won the doubles!)
His play is really great. Just looking at his play is great. Unfortunately he lost his singles in the QF, but he's an upcoming player!! I will cheer him as one of his fan! (Note: He practiced with Nadal the day before and on the day of Nadal's final day upon Nadal's request)

Ok See ya!!

All schedule is done for this year's French.
Unfortunately, we lost in the final, but overall, it was a good 2 week and one day here. We wish we could've ended winning today tho...
Well, that would be for the next time!

It's been a year since Daniela and me started playing together.
I used to practice with her often even before, but since then we have spent more time together, going out to eat, talking a lot about other stuff too.
The more I spend time with her, the more I realize how nice she is as a person, and I am really happy and grateful to get to know her and play together.

The reason I can enjoy playing doubles is that I have a friend on the court together.

Now, I am at the airport in Paris and waiting for the flight to Birmingham.
From this afternoon, the grass is starting!!! :)

I hate to say this, but I think she realizes that her career has lasted a long time, and she just doesn't know how much she has left (hopefully a long time :knocks on wood:) and she's just trying to enjoy herself out there while she still can. And it's nice to see how positive she's being; even if they lost the final, she knows this is only the beginning =)

Bon Dia from Rio de Janeiro!!
Here's a new entry!

June 27

Hi, everyone.
Wimbledon just began today.
I heard this is my 14th challenge here at Wimbledon!
As a warm-up, I entered two tournaments.
Last two weeks, the weather has been very nice luckily, but today, it was raining, raining, and raining. It was a 5-1 lead...but couldn't move well on slippery court afterwards...and became 5-4 and waited for 7 hours...and finally the match got postponed.

We, players could wait at lockerroom and restaurant, but fans have to wait outside...I really feel bad for them.
So many people are waiting for our match... I'll just have to use my "extra" power to do the best tomorrow!! Please give me your big support!

With Love, Ai.

Hey, thanks Ex_Hopman :worship: You're in Rio de Janeiro? Awesome!
Wow... That is amazing. Her fourteenth Wimbledon... highlighted by a Quarterfinal in 2004 where she came extremely close to downing the to-be Champion Maria Sharapova, as well as four Doubles finals in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2004, one of which she won :)

Hello everybody. I had my singles 2nd round on the 3rd day.
The opponent was Morigami-san.
She has a really good tournament at Eastbourne, so I decided to be a challender to play the best against her.
I tried not to give her lots of time by attacking balls first.
I really think I could play my tennis today.
During this Europe season, there was a gap between real play and image.
I am truly happy today.
Dubs will begin from tomorrow, and I have a game against Martina the day after.
p(^^)q

I hope I can play a lot here this year.

Whoo hoo!!(^o^)v
What a great win today! I couldn't believe I could win over Martina on the centre court! It's great!! Before the match, I was moving well and my tennis was in a good condition too so I was really excited to play.
I wasn't so nervous, but it's a center court... who can tell what's going to happen there right?

When I stepped into the court, I almost smile because I was very happy to be there.

I wouldn't have many chances to play there...so I decided to enjoy the time being there.
I could move ok, but maybe I was a bit tense...after the first set, I felt exhausted.
During the second, she dominated the set... the time passed by and it went 0-3 in the third...
but I could see her very tried... she was stretching her legs a lot... so I thought I just needed to be consistant and pushing her more.
I realized that was what I had to do to get a point by point, and after a while, my rythm started coming back.

When I got a match point, I almost cried!!
I need to challenge more on the next too. Please give me your support!

Everyone, thank you very much for watching Wimbledon on TV at late night.
I came home yesterday. It's so humid in Japan now!! How are you all spending ?

This Europe trip made me learn a lot.
From the house I was renting to the airport in England, I was thinking I wanted to play on grass more.
Right? I defeated Hingis, but lost to Bremond?? Funny huh. I know you want to say that to me... but it's not that easy... tennis that is.

This French Open and Wimbledon, I felt frustrations that I've never felt before from the losses. I haven't felt these frustrations from loss for a while... so this is a good sign as a player!! I need to play more!

By the way, I turned 31 yesterday!!
Thank you very much for those who sent me birthday messages.???
I didn't want to be 30s last year, and I was rushing into many things around this time last year. Now, I feel like I can face whatever I have to for many reasons.
I really feel that I am here with big supports of my family, team, friends and fans.
It's speechless. Thank you very much.

I'll take some break and will be ready for the Fedcup a week after.
If you have time, please please come to Ariake.
With Love, Ai???

Hi everyone!! It's been HOT everyday huh!
I feel like I am melting down... but how're you doing?

We are playing for Fedcup today and tomorrow.
Since Monday, we've been training and practicing together.
Days go really fast... means we're doing good huh??

By the way, we wore Yukata at the Fedcup reception!!
Each of us chose whatever we liked and we enjoyed the summer in Japan!!
There are not many chances to wear this!! Many pictures were taken...so hope I can upload pics here soon.

For the tie, we are leading 2-0 now.
I'll talk more about the games after tomorrow.

Ciao, With Love, Ai

Hello everyone.
It must be really hot in Japan now?
It's very comfortable here in LA.
I like this weather w/o any humidity.
Lately, my results haven't been good huh?

I had to look at many things of my tennis this week and last week.
My tennis is totally based on stamina and rhythm...but I couldn't have done so lately.

I just read the article about Japan's soccer team. I felt like they were talking about me!! According to the head coach, Japanese are not especially tall or do not have physical strenth, all they have to do is "RUN"!
You could say the same to me. I need to use the strength that I have and other players don't.
I've known that...so I just need to do it. It's easy to say, but hard to do it... I'll catch up with whatever I have to do by the US Open!!
Ok, time to go!! Ciao,

With Love, Ai

Can you translate yesterday's? I'm curious what she has to say about Dechy, and the coaching system and such.

Hello everyone. Isnt it hot in Japan now!?
How are you spending these days?
I feel like I've been playing the tennis I like lately.
However, I lost to Kutzy (this is what she calls her) on the third round.
During the 1st, I was too tight, and the ball didn't really stretch out, but I could play better on the second, and had two set points, but couldnt take them... that was too bad. However, it's no doubt that my condition and tennis are going better and better.

This tournament attempts something interesting. It's coaching during a match.
Once per a set and at the end of the set, players can get coaching.
I really like this system. It all depends on players, but even Hingis called her mom during the game. This could change the game plan, and it should be fun to watch for you guys!
During my 1st round and second round I used this system.
Even today, I was down 2-5 in the first, and talked to my mom...and the game started changing a lot.
Fresh eyes really help, I realized that this week.
Personally I really like it, and hope they introduce this sytem in tournaments.

This week, I played dubs with Dechy, not with Daniela. It has been a good combination even though this is our first time playing together.
She's really fit, so it's a different style of doubles compared to the one with Daniela. We'll play for the best tomorrow too!
I am going for aroma therapy now!!

Sorry it took me a while...

October 29, 2006
Everybody, I'm sorry it has been forever...
Last time I entered the diary was when I was in Beijing...so it's been over a month huh... there has been so many going on since then.
I was thinkin of writing... but time just passed by especially the damage I get towards the end of the season physically and mentally big!
After three tournaments in Asia, I was sooo tired.
I did nothing... I stayed at home most of the time when I was home, but it's actually a nice feeling staying at home!

I had invaluable experiences in those Asia tournaments... feels like it's a long ago.
In Beijing, I could defeat a top 10 player, Vadisova... but I lost to the local's Peng. The game was totally a AWAY game. It was included so much of anti-Japan thing... I am usually ok with whatever... but well, that day, that audience's manner made me think "how come I have to feel this to play tennis!!!"
Well, I guess this is coming from the issue... and when I went back, I wanted to know about the tension...so I went to the bookstore, but it seems very complicating to understand all.

I don't know much about it, so I shouldn't comment here... but it wasn't a good experience at all.Well, being a positive thinker, I guess this made me start learning about issues...so I guess that was a good thing.

I am in Belgium right now for my last tournament of the season. It's a small but lovely town here. I think I should buy some chocolate for souvenir!
