This is a rough translation of an interesting article from Soviet Sport about Maria. I put it up in GM, but thought it might be useful to put it here too. She mentions the loss, life in the US , and playing in Moscow.

Two bagels in my will.

A crushing defeat by Lindsay Davenport has not crushed Russia's top player.
by Aleksey Tolkachev.

After Sharapova's crushing defeat in the semi-final by Davenport - 0:6, 0:6. the Russian player's trainer, Robert Lansdorp issued a sensational statement to the press: Sharapova is threatened with physical and mental exhaustion, it is necessary to urgently reduce the number of her appearances...

This is the sensationalism of journalists! - was the laconic comment of Masha on the suggestion that she would pass up on the category one tournament in Miami.

And, laughing, she told the Soviet Sport correspondent about the exchange of SMS messages with her agent after her defeat by Davenport:

- My agent texted to me: "you're only human".

- I answered: " a dead human"

- He asked: "Have you left me anything in your will?".

- I said "Just two bagels.".

Masha agreed again to answer questions from "SS", when the tournament was already in full swing...

- Have you learned to value the time you get to spend with your family?,

- certainly. Indeed mom does not go with me to the tournaments. At home when she forces me to spend too much time on lessons, I run off to see my (girl) friend.

- last week you were together in Los Angeles. What did you do?

- a lot of mathematics. Mom does it very thooughly..

- and for pleasure?

- We walked to the Getty Museum. I is so wonderful there! It's a remarkable complex, an enormous botanical garden, we went for a long walk. But the main thing - I greatly wanted to see Van Gogh's "irises"

- Did you watch the Davis Cup?

- yes, the USA - Croatia match, together with the girl friend.

- I know that you want to play for Russia.

She nods - but so far they haven't given me a firm answer about taking part in the first round of the Federation Cup - during April in Italy.

- on whom does this depend? Some people are inferring that the decision will be made by your sponsors...

- that's not true. My sponsors do not check me.

- everything will depend only on physical form?

- I think so, yes. .. Expect me in Moscow

- You spend a lot of time in California. Do you have an apartment in Los Angeles?

- No, we live in the hotel... Well, it's not entirely a hotel, some people live there.

- Is that where all the "stars" live?

- No, this somewhat further on. The majority of stars prefer Hollywood, Beverly Hills.

- Do you want to move permanently to the West coast? It is closer to Lansdorp and show business...

- Yes, it very healthy here ... But it is a bit quieter in Florida. And my mother really likes it htere. And for me its very important to be able to practice on the clay courts at the (Bollittieri) Academy. They don't have them in California.

- When was the last time you were in the capital?

- in Moscow I am very little. I only pass through when I fly to Sochi. Off at one Airport, into another, again to the aircraft and home.

- Are you going to the Kremlin Cup?

- Yes-yes- yes!

- What sort of reception do you expect from the crowds?

- To be honest, I do not know.

- Let's imagine: It's a Sharapova - Myskina final. Willthe Moscow crowd be for you?

- (she laughs.) I do not want to conjecture. Certainly, for me it will be very interesting, even in the first round - will they support me? I've never played there so far. The press are one thing - living people, another. Everyone I've spoken to who was in Russia has told me that in the bars they were always glued to the television sets...

(There is a bit about her father and the controversy about him. Maria says that during the peak time of the row, he went off skiing and ignored it all. She said she never hears a fraction of the things he is supposed to be shouting.)

She then adds that she'd like her fans to know that she's not always grim and determined as she appears on court...

- "I want so that they would know everything: on Court I have continuous emotions, because I want to win,... I'm serious. I concentrate only on the ball. But when I go off court, I always smile and laugh, and I'm in a good mood. It seems me, that people do not know that side of me, because they see me only in a fighting situation."
