but nonetheless i'm glad to know you're out there defending alicia at this board whenever she ever needs it ;)

btw i love your location before, "in molik's eyeball" it somehow crossed my mind while alicia was blazing through in her matches at the OZ open. i was like thinking, "that fan must be having a blast right now..." ;) :D

Pretty crappy draw IMO. Justine in 4th round :scared: Although I'm hoping her comeback won't be quite as successful as Kim's :) Let's hope Sammy or Bepa takes her out first. Then Masha in quarters (if she doesn't pull out). She might be even more dangerous now since she has something to prove after that double bagel :tape: If she gets that far then its Serena in the semis

I think that tournaments like Miami and Indian Wells are about as close to a grand slam as any tourny is gonna get (128 draw in 10 days, all the top players except lindsay). Should be a good test :D

Mar 22nd, 2005, 12:09 PM
that's quite a tough draw. you're right rachel, justine in the 4th round is indeed scary. justine is no stranger in coming back from injury, she won the olympics right after that long injury layoff. this is what tier 1 tournament is all about i guess, its the next best thing to a grand slam so there's no easy way to win. i just wish alicia didn't get such a tough draw...

I think you're right peanuts ;) Plus, I think I justed posted something in GM about how Justine probably won't be as physically fit as Kim since she had that illness so I doubt Justine's return will be quite as spectacular as Kim's :)

By the way, Martinafan posted in the other thread that Alicia and Sveta are seeded third in the doubles :yeah: They're in the same half as Paola/Vivi so it's time for revenge

for doubles, its alicia/sveta vs daniilidou/pratt...pratt again!! ;)
they're not on the order of play so i don't think they're playing doubles today (saturday). oh well the doubles draw is pretty small compared to the singles so i guess the organizers are in no hurry to have the doubles matches played.

Here's Alicia's post-match interview after beating Dulko:

A. MOLIK/G. Dulko
3-6, 6-3, 6-4
An interview with:

ALICIA MOLIK

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Alicia, the first set was a bit up and down, got off to a break and then let her back into the match.

ALICIA MOLIK: Yeah, I mean, you know, it's not a break until you hold, is how the old saying goes.

But, yeah, I guess I was a little bit relieved to get such an early break. Gisela is one of those players, she can get on a roll with her returns, Especially she's got a pretty good backhand return.

In saying that, it was a lazy game, just a couple of errors. You know, she gained a little bit of confidence and momentum from that. So I lost the first set 6‑3.

But nevertheless, I knew what I had to do to get back in it and consolidate and then get through that third set.

But, I mean, a scratchy match. It wasn't the best. But still to get through, I'm pretty happy.

Q. Were you at all concerned after losing the first set, or did you feel you were still comfortable?

ALICIA MOLIK: Yeah, no, I wasn't ‑‑ I mean, there was no reason to be concerned or worried. You know, I made a lot of errors in that first set so, you know, I didn't really feel like she won the set; I felt like more or less I made the majority of the errors, which gave her the set.

So, you know, it was a matter of understanding what I needed to do in the second and third sets, which pretty much I did. It was hard out there with the blustery conditions. I did find it a little bit difficult out there.

But, no, there were no panic stations after losing the first set.

Q. What about playing Henin‑Hardenne in the next round?

ALICIA MOLIK: Yeah, it's been a while, I think, since I've played Justine or seen Justine play. You know, it's going to be a good match. I think, you know, she hasn't played a lot of tennis in the last couple of months, so it's a very good opportunity for me. She's beaten me the last couple of times.

I'll be going out there and taking it to her, being aggressive, hitting some big serves. I like the conditions here, so they're, you know ‑‑ the balls in the courts are taking my kick quite well, so I'll try and do a lot of that tomorrow.

Q. About the conditions, today the temperature is a little bit better, but it has been incredibly muggy and hot. You don't mind the windy conditions?

ALICIA MOLIK: Oh, I mean, you know, the other night when I played it was absolutely still. Today it was very blustery. But the wind is something that I can use for me, you know, if I'm smart about the way I play. It can add to my game, it can add to my serve, it can add to my spin and my speed.

But, I mean, it's blowing down both ends. It's not like it's just down my end or just down my opponent's end. It's a matter, I think, of who gets less frustrated as well.

Q. Can I ask about the management change.

ALICIA MOLIK: Yeah.

Q. Going to a bigger company, your thoughts, your reasoning? What prompted it?

ALICIA MOLIK: Yeah, well, nothing's set in stone right now. But I think at this stage in my career, I think it's, you know, I'm away a lot, I play world sport. I think it's very important that I have global representation.

I've had a wonderful time with Pete, it's been an incredible time together. He's very much like family, so...

But, you know, there comes a time when I think you need to make decisions, and I've made that decision. Nothing is quite set in stone just yet, but I think it's a good move for me, a very important move at this stage in my career.

FastScripts by ASAP Sports...

Anyone know what they're on about in terms of 'management changes?' Is Alicia changing coaches?

Nichole
Mar 28th, 2005, 01:09 AM
why would she change her coach ?

peanuts
Mar 28th, 2005, 03:50 AM
well alicia has been through a couple of tough matches, next up is justine :scared: she needs to be at her very best to win this one. no more spotty play! and this is a great chance for her to beat justine.

go alicia! you can do it!! :)

i think the change of management is not about a coach, i think she's talking about a manager/agent who handles the publicity, sponsors/ads etc, stuff that IMG and Octagon does. hmmm i wonder which company she signed up in...

Yes, it's definitely about a change in management. She's currently managed by Peter Smylie managment group and is probably been thrown alot of lucrative offers to change now to a more global firm now that she is top 10. They're porbably too hard to resist. However it would've been nice for her to stay with local firm but they probably can't drum up the off-court deals, that a Octagon/IMG does.
Hope that Alicia isn't forgetting her roots and we see her atleast playing Fed Cup this year.

Good luck against JHH. Molik is playing a bit scratchy whereas JHH will very keen. Molik's at a point of her career that she shouldn't be wiped by anyone so hopefully she's picks up the pace against the better players.

J. HENIN‑HARDENNE/A. Molik
6‑4, 2‑6, 6‑2
An interview with:

ALICIA MOLIK

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. You stayed with her for a couple of sets. What happened after that?

ALICIA MOLIK: I think the difference in the third set was, I mean, the games I lost, my service percentage really dropped. Justine is a girl that always returns well. She put a few at my feet. I was slightly slow on a couple of those ‑‑ my first shots. And, you know, she broke me pretty early in that third set.

The second service game that I lost in the third set, same thing. My percentage dropped. I knew she was returning well so probably went for a little bit more, when I probably should have kicked a few more in.

Q. She really put the pressure on you in those games.

ALICIA MOLIK: She, you know, she was returning well, I thought, on her backhand side especially. But, you know, as I said, my first serve percentage really did drop off. So, you know, I'm very much in control when I get those first serves in, so, yeah, probably served a few too many second serves. Gave her a look in.

Q. First two sets, must have been pretty pleased with the way you were hitting the ball.

ALICIA MOLIK: You know, I don't think there was too much really in that first set ‑ in each of them really. But the standout thing, I think, was ‑ really forget the first two ‑ but I think the standout thing was in the third set. I had a point to break, you know. I'd wished I'd gone for a little bit more instead of just putting the ball back deep on her backhand corner. I probably should have stepped up and gone for something big. It's not often you get an opportunity to break. It could have been 2‑Love in the third. I think that was the critical moment in the match.

Q. In one sense, she is a former world No. 1. When you look at the rankings, it's not quite truthful. Do you think this was an opportunity that you lost to score a first win over her?

ALICIA MOLIK: Oh, absolutely. Every time I've lost against Justine it's an opportunity lost, you know. The fact that she's come back, she's obviously in great form, she's not going to come back, you know, if she hasn't fully prepared. So, you know, she's playing damn good tennis.

But, yeah, I definitely see it as an opportunity, you know, that I probably should have taken. But, you know, again, all these matches I'm going into against these better girls, these good players, I'm expecting to win. So, you know, when you come out ‑‑ when you come out of a match like that as I guess the person without that third set, it's very disappointing.

Q. What can you take away from the results? You've had a bit of a break coming into here, got through a few matches. What do you take away from here?

ALICIA MOLIK: I think, you know, maybe, you know, next couple of matches I get those breakpoints, I've got to maybe have a little bit more time to think about them and really have a real good plan, a real assertive, aggressive plan.

I feel like I'm playing well. I've got another couple weeks at Amelia and Charleston. I like the green clay.

You know, it's not like it's, I guess, too disappointing, but I always try and take the positives. But, you know, again, the next couple weeks I'll try to look at my first serve percentage, be a little bit more aggressive on my returns, you know, little things like that.

Thought I'd post Justine's interview as well since Justine was glowing with praise for Alicia ;)

J. HENIN‑HARDENNE/A. Molik
6‑4, 2‑6, 6‑2
An interview with:

JUSTINE HENIN‑HARDENNE

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. How do you feel about this match? You looked better than your two previous matches. Do you feel more confident?

JUSTINE HENIN‑HARDENNE: Yeah, I think that's pretty normal, you feel better in the third round than in the first round. It was very good, very good level today. Good match. That give a lot of confidence, you know, because she served so good, she played unbelievable. It was good fight.

So I lost a little bit my concentration in the second set, but this kind of thing can happen when you come back after seven months. So I knew it could happen. I was ready for it. So I'm very happy that I could come back in the third and play the way I played. It was very good tennis. I'm very happy about that.

Q. You feel you recovered your form?

JUSTINE HENIN‑HARDENNE: You know, it's still too early to say that because it's only my first tournament and I still have a lot of things to improve.

But I think today we watch me, I mean, I play the way I have to play tennis ‑ very aggressive, I went a lot to the net, I enjoyed so much my tennis on the court. It was very funny.

Q. Your return of serve today looked really good. Seemed like you were anticipating where she was going almost every point. Did you feel that way?

JUSTINE HENIN‑HARDENNE: I think I was just going for it. Because if I was returning in slice, no way I could break her. She was serving unbelievable on every breakpoint that I had during the match, I think maybe once she had to serve a second serve. So it was pretty amazing.

But it was a very good match. I was a little bit surprised the way I could play because it's been long, you know, seven months. And today I really enjoyed coming back on the court, playing my first Top 10 since long time, and that's very good for my confidence.

Q. What about for tomorrow, Sharapova?

JUSTINE HENIN‑HARDENNE: I think that's only bonus for me because, you know, what I'm doing here this week is very good. I found my game again. That's very good for the future, you know. I came here in Miami to play few matches and that's what I have. It's gonna be my fourth match tomorrow, and I will have nothing to lose.

Sharapova is for sure going to be the favorite. We all know what she did in the last few months. We all know that she's very good player. We want the same thing, winning tomorrow. I will try to do my best, try to enjoy my game on the court like I did today. We will see what is going to happen.

Q. At 5‑3, 30‑All, you hit that lob. Talk about that shot.

JUSTINE HENIN‑HARDENNE: Yeah, it was good point, very good point. I don't know, I've been maybe a little bit lucky. It was very close.

But, no, I think that's what people, they love to watch. That was very good tennis match today. So I hope they enjoyed it.

Q. People love to watch it, and players love to play it.

JUSTINE HENIN‑HARDENNE: Oh, yeah, yeah. I think that Alicia enjoyed also the match. It was very good match. It's good to play this way, you know. I played my game. I had no pressure, even if I lost my concentration a little bit in the second set. I didn't want to lose this match, you know, 6‑2 and 6‑1 in the third. That could happen, but I just tried to stay concentrate on every point, play a little bit more aggressive at the beginning of the third set, and it worked pretty good.
