Retenue par Nicolas Escudé dans le groupe qui défiera, ce week-end à Liévin, les États-Unis au premier tour de la Fed Cup, la Cucquoise Pauline Parmentier espère bien sûr être alignée en simple et profiter de l'événement pour relancer sa carrière.

Pauline Parmentier en Fed Cup, ce n'est pas vraiment une première. La jeune femme, qui vient tout juste de fêter ses 24 ans, avait en effet déjà été convoquée en équipe de France en janvier 2008 pour le premier match en Chine, mais elle avait alors dû se contenter d'un rôle de remplaçante.

La Cucquoise avait visiblement su tirer pleinement profit de cette aventure puisqu'elle avait dans la foulée décroché un deuxième titre sur le circuit WTA à Bad Gastein, une sélection pour les Jeux olympiques de Pékin et elle avait aussi intégré le « Top 50 » mondial, se hissant jusqu'au 40e rang.

La suite fut hélas moins rose. Rupture sentimentale, changement d'entraîneur et surtout blessure au poignet : sa saison 2009 commença de la plus mauvaise des façons et la dégringolade au classement ne se fit pas attendre. Désormais classée au 104e rang, Pauline Parmentier, qui travaille depuis septembre avec Nicolas Copin, semble néanmoins avoir retrouvé des couleurs ces derniers mois.

« En fin de saison, j'ai mieux joué sur des tournois moins importants. Ça aurait été bien de pouvoir enchaîner, mais il y a eu la coupure hivernale, précise la joueuse nordiste. On a bien travaillé pour préparer cette saison. Sur les premiers matchs, il y a encore des choses à améliorer, mais il y a aussi beaucoup de positif. Les défaites à Sydney et à Melbourne tiennent à peu de choses. Ça revient, mais il manque quelques victoires pour retrouver la confiance. » La Fed Cup pourrait, si tout se passe bien, jouer ce rôle de détonateur. Mais la Nordiste n'est pas encore assurée d'être de la revue sur ses terres. « Être en équipe de France, c'est déjà très bien, jouer ce serait encore mieux, admet-elle. Nicolas Escudé n'a pas encore choisi. Un premier match dans ma région, ce serait symbolique. Mais si je ne suis pas choisie, je serai quand même à fond derrière l'équipe. On s'entend toutes très bien et nous ne sommes pas ici pour jouer notre carte personnelle. »
Bartoli, Razzano et Rezai ont fait l'impasse

Pauline Parmentier, qui assure ne pas établir de hiérarchie entre les différents rendez-vous de la saison, a tout de même reconnu que cette Fed Cup était un vrai objectif. Et comme toutes ses camarades, elle aura sans aucun doute à coeur de prouver que, même sans les Bartoli, Rezai ou autre Razzano qui ont fait l'impasse, cette équipe de France a suffisamment d'atouts pour passer l'écueil américain, et ainsi s'éviter un match de barrage pour rester l'an prochain dans le groupe mondial. •

Réservée, souriante, frustrée. Pauline Parmentier est passée par tout ces états, hier. Elle a surtout réussi son match.

Le hasard n'a rien à faire dans le haut niveau. Encore moins dans le tennis, où l'athlète est face à un adversaire qu'il ne peut jamais toucher, seulement toiser, où le but est de briser une à une ses défenses, mentales et physiques. Un sport où le principal adversaire reste aussi, et surtout, soi-même.
En Fed Cup, Nicolas Escudé rappelait, hier, la valeur de chaque point qui ne s'offre qu'au prix d'une volonté farouche d'aller le conquérir. Au premier abord, on ne donnerait pas forcément ces qualités de battante à Pauline Parmentier, qui a souvent joué la carte d'un détachement de façade, cette semaine.


Elle masquait en réalité une vibrante émotion. Celle d'avoir été sélectionnée par son capitaine pour représenter son pays.
Hier, la jeune Nordiste a montré qu'elle avait l'étoffe de celles qui peuvent se sublimer. Et assumer les attentes placées en elles. Cela s'est joué à pas grand-chose. Cinq balles de breaks dans le cinquième jeu de la deuxième manche. Un seul de ces points aurait changé la donne. Des points qui frustrent celle qui a débuté le tennis, gamine, parce que sa famille prenait juste plaisir à le pratiquer. « Pour être une bonne joueuse de Fed Cup, répond-elle, il faut se battre sur tous les points. Il faut une attitude. Et puis il faut profiter de tout, du public. On joue au tennis pour vivre ces moments-là ».
Hier, son inspiratrice était présente, sur les abords du court, pour vérifier que le flambeau ne s'était pas éteint après son départ. « J'ai pu côtoyer Amélie (Mauresmo) avant qu'elle ne prenne sa retraite. Elle m'a beaucoup appris. Et le simple fait de la voir, aujourd'hui, m'a aidée » . La flamme brûle toujours. Pauline Parmentier est loin d'y être étrangère.w

Quand elle gagne (4-6, 6-3, 7-5 en 2h24') contre Alberta Brianti, Pauline Parmentier ressent un immense soulagement. Puis elle se dirige vers son clan. Son nouvel entraîneur, Hugo Lecoq, son préparateur physique, Nicolas Perrotte, son porte-bonheur, Amélie Mauresmo, la coordonatrice du haut niveau féminin, Alexia Dechaume-Balleret, et Loïc Courteau partagent sa victoire. Son succès est d'autant plus savoureux qu'il provient d'une vraie lutte interne. Depuis des mois, la Nordiste a perdu une pléiade de matches sur le fil. «Ca a commencé en Australie contre Baltacha et cela s'est enchaîné. Encore la semaine dernière. Cela s'est produit au moins quinze fois cette année. C'est assez frustrant, résume la 105e mondiale. Je me dis que si j'avais gagné tous ces matches-là, je ne serais pas à ce classement à me poser des questions. En même temps, on se dit aussi qu'on n'est pas loin. Je suis vraiment contente d'avoir inversé la tendance.»
Une victoire sur elle-même

En une seconde, une tonne de doutes se transforme en plumes. Menée 5-3 au troisième set, elle a enfin réussi à conjurer le sort. Et ce n'est pas une mince affaire. Quand les pensées négatives affleurent, elle cherche l'énergie au bord du court. «Quand je me fais breaker à 4-3, je me dis : ça recommence. J'ai essayé de regarder les gens au bord du terrain et de prendre de l'énergie. Seule, je sentais que j'étais en train de partir dans mes pensées négatives. J'ai joué point par point et cela a payé.» Mais il faut conclure et à 6-5 au moment de servir pour le match, le poison du sportif s'insinue encore. Alors elle repense aux notes de son entraîneur sur ses schémas de jeu, elle souffle et se répète qu'elle est capable de le faire. Et elle réussit à vaincre ses démons et à inverser la spirale infernale pour rejoindre Shahar Peer au deuxième tour. Elle vient de battre deux adversaires : Alberta Brianti et elle-même. - S.D., à New-York.

When she played against marion at RG first round a while ago even the commentators said..she needs to do what Stosur does and actually use that forehand and her serve, unfortunantly she hasn't got the ressources or the motivation to put it together (thus far)

Sweet! Looking fwd to seeing it :) Yeah her serve wasn't as good as I remembered. Heaps of faults and unforced errors :( I was following her as she walked to the match, she looked very restless. Walking toward the centre court to see what was happening inside, looking inside the giveaway car :lol:

Ce dimanche, à Marseille, Pauline Parmentier a conclu en beauté sa semaine provençale. Sur les courts en terre battue du TC Marseille, la Nordiste a battu la Roumaine Irina Camelia Begu 6/3, 6/2 pour conquérir le sixième titre ITF féminin de sa carrière, le premier depuis Saint-Raphaël fin 2009.Deux balles de match sauvées pour Parmentier
Déjà finaliste à l'Open GDF SUEZ de Cagnes-sur-Mer début mai, Pauline a confirmé son regain de forme dans la cité phocéenne. En huitièmes de finale, elle avait sauvé deux balles de match contre la Roumaine Madalina Gojnea (6/4, 4/6, 7/5).

Puis en demi-finales, au bout d'un match acharné, Pauline a pris sa revanche sur la Russe Anastasia Pivovarova qui l'avait battu à Saint-Gaudens. Un succès arraché 4/6, 7/6(10), 7/6(5) ! Avec ce titre, Parmentier, 25 ans, a fait son retour dans le top 100, de la 105e à la 85e place mondiale.

Lauréate samedi du tournoi sur terre battue de Marseille (100 000 dollars), la Cucquoise Pauline Parmentier a confirmé, à quelques jours de Wimbledon, les progrès entrevus ces dernières semaines.

Pauline Parmentier est arrivée hier à Londres et dispose donc désormais de quatre à cinq jours pour retrouver des repères avant d'appréhender la troisième levée des tournois du Grand Chelem, la semaine prochaine à Wimbledon. Un grand rendez-vous qu'elle aborde sans véritable préparation, mais également sans pression.
« La saison sur herbe sera cette année très réduite puisqu'elle se limitera à Wimbledon. Initialement, je devais être dans les qualifications et quand j'ai su que j'entrais dans le tableau final, il était trop tard pour s'inscrire dans les autres tournois. Du coup, avec mon entraîneur Hugo Lecoq, on a décidé d'aller disputer des tournois ITF sur terre battue, et je ne le regrette pas du tout. » Le succès remporté ce week-end à Marseille dans un « 100 000 dollars » est en effet venu confirmer le regain de forme affiché par la Cucquoise depuis début mai. « Mon jeu se remet plutôt bien en place. Il y a eu les bons résultats à Saint-Gaudens (quart de finale) et à Cagnes-sur-Mer (finale), rappelle-t-elle. J'ai ensuite remporté le match qu'il fallait gagner au premier tour à Roland-Garros. Et il y a donc eu cette bonne semaine à Marseille. » Même la lourde défaite (6-0, 6-1) subie contre la Biélorusse Azarenka au second tour porte d'Auteuil n'a pas entamé son moral : « Le score a été sévère, donc sur le coup ça a été vraiment dur, mais après, il ne fallait pas oublier que c'était la quatrième joueuse mondiale. Je sais que je ne suis pas encore revenue à un niveau suffisant pour l'inquiéter et ça ne servait donc à rien de se remettre dans le trou pour un match comme celui-là.
» À Marseille, la Cucquoise a pourtant failli passer à la trappe dès le deuxième tour, contre une modeste Roumaine, Madalina Gojnea, devant même sauver une balle de match. Mais ensuite, elle n'a fait que monter en puissance, s'offrant, par ordre d'apparition, les têtes de série cinq, un et trois de l'épreuve, à savoir l'Espagnole Suarez Navarro, la Russe Pivovarova et la Roumaine Begu. Une belle semaine qui lui permet de remonter au 75e rang mondial, son meilleur classement depuis la fin de l'année 2008, année où elle avait atteint son pic de forme (40e en juillet).
« J'ai vécu des moments difficiles, mais je me sens beaucoup mieux dans ma tête, je suis moins stressée, assure-t-elle.
J'ai réussi à me détacher davantage de certaines choses et je suis revenue à des choses assez simples sur le court. » Forte de cette nouvelle philosophie, c'est donc « sans se prendre la tête », qu'elle appréhende son retour sur le gazon londonien. •

Parmentier avec le coeur

Après un excellent match, Pauline Parmentier fait honneur à sa wild-card en éliminant Anabel Medina Garrigues (2-6, 6-3, 6-3) pour son entrée en lice.

Pauline Parmentier est une affective. Pour sa grande première dans le tableau final de l'Open GDF Suez, elle est bien entourée par son entraîneur Georges Goven d'un côté et son compagnon Loïc Courteau de l'autre. Et cerise sur le gâteau, elle honore son invitation sous le regard de la co-directrice Amélie Mauresmo par une victoire (2-6, 6-3, 6-3 en 2h28') face à Anabel Medina Garrigues. « Il y a beaucoup d'affectif. Il y avait beaucoup de personnes très importantes pour moi autour du terrain. Après le week-end de Fed Cup, c'était un plus et cela m'a permis de repousser mes limites car j'avais accumulé beaucoup de fatigue, avoue la Nordiste. Les sentir autour de moi m'a beaucoup aidée. Si je m'étais retrouvée en Ouzbékistan sur le court n°12, cela n'aurait pas été la même chose. »

Malgré une cuisse gauche douloureuse, stigmate d'un week-end éprouvant en Fed Cup, la Française réalise un match très solide à tous les niveaux. Physiquement, elle tient contre une joueuse, valeur étalon du circuit, après 2h28' de combat. Mentalement, elle dépasse sa tension du premier set. Exemplaire dans l'attitude, elle ne montre pas sa frustration et se bat avec courage. Tennistiquement, elle ose prendre le jeu à son compte en bousculant la 24e mondiale. « Au premier set, je manque d'agressivité et je suis dans sa filière de jeu. Elle se régale. Au deuxième set, je n'avais plus le choix. J'ai commencé à la bousculer et à la sortir de sa filière, explique la 62e mondiale. Je me suis forcée physiquement et mentalement à le faire. Dans le jeu, cela fait quelque temps que je me sens bien et cela s'est concrétisé assez vite. »

Parmentier surmonte la fatigue

Dans le court à partir de la deuxième manche, elle s'appuie sur ses deux armes habituelles, le service et le coup droit, et peut compter sur un revers de plus en plus solide. En patronne, elle distribue les coups en avançant. De retour après son entorse à la cheville à l'Open d'Australie, Anabel Medina Garrigues subit et finit par lâcher sous le poids de la balle de la Tricolore. Sur un dernier revers gagnant croisé, Pauline Parmentier peut laisser éclater sa joie. « Je me sens forcément fatiguée, j'ai très mal à la fesse et je vais aller me faire masser, résume en souriant Pauline Parmentier. Quand on gagne, cela prend le dessus. Je vais faire une bonne récupération ce soir (mercredi soir) pour être bien demain (jeudi). » Malgré sa fatigue, elle rejoint Mona Barthel au deuxième tour à la force du poignet et avec le coeur.

Pauline Parmentier : "Je fais tout pour remonter"

Après la victoire de l'équipe de France en Fed Cup, Pauline Parmentier, 26 ans, ex-40e mondiale désormais 59e, veut aller encore plus loin.

Pauline, qu’avez-vous fait depuis la victoire de l’équipe de France en Fed Cup ?
Je me suis reposée un petit peu parce que j’ai eu un week-end très dur au niveau des émotions. J’y ai laissé beaucoup d’énergie. J’ai pris deux jours et je me suis remise à l’entraînement à Paris pour préparer la saison sur terre battue.
Le fait d’être la n°1 de l’équipe vous a-t-il mis davantage de pression sur les épaules ?
Pas forcément. Peut-être un peu le dimanche mais c’est surtout le fait qu’il fallait apporter le dernier point pour se maintenir qui a été dur. Dans l’équipe, il n’y a pas vraiment de leader. On est toutes du même niveau. On apporte toutes quelque chose. Virginie (Razzano), ça fait très longtemps qu’elle est dans l’équipe. Moi, je suis arrivée quand il y avait encore Amélie (Mauresmo).
Le fait qu’il n’y ait pas de leader, cela vous manque-t-il ?
Oui. Un leader, ça manque. Amélie en était un. Elle transmettait des valeurs qui se perdent aujourd’hui.
Nicolas Escudé dit que vous valez mieux que votre 59e place actuelle. Êtes-vous d’accord ?
Ça me fait plaisir. Je reviens petit à petit. J’ai eu des mois difficiles. Peut-être que ma place n’est pas là, je fais tout pour remonter au classement. Maintenant, il faut que j’arrive à avoir de la régularité.
Votre ascension a débuté l’an dernier sur terre, quand vous avez atteint la finale du tournoi de Cagnes-sur-Mer…
Oui, j’avais eu un début de saison très difficile. En Fed Cup, j’avais perdu le dernier match en barrage et puis j’ai fait la finale à Cagnes-sur-Mer et ça a servi de déclic. C’est un super tournoi. J’ai bien remonté ensuite.
Quel est votre objectif pour la suite de la saison ?
Je n’ai pas vraiment d’objectif de classement. Je vais essayer de trouver des repères sur terre pour bien préparer Roland-Garros. Je débute à Budapest cette semaine et puis j’enchaînerai Rome et Madrid.
