I think is too soon to include Misa and Nicole in the list, they have all the potential but they are in the begining of their careers Maria Croft Mar 2nd, 2005, 01:02 PM I think there are a lot of top tennis players missing in this poll timray Mar 2nd, 2005, 01:05 PM Why no Dani ?? MinnyGophers Mar 2nd, 2005, 01:13 PM AS best European i would only include Justine, Amelie, Maria, and Kimmie... maybe Myskina but right now... the others are way too young and their achievements are...well... not comparable. timray Mar 2nd, 2005, 01:14 PM Where is the option others? Is it important for you ? CooCooCachoo Mar 2nd, 2005, 01:14 PM Is it important for you ? Yes. timray Mar 2nd, 2005, 01:15 PM why? Tennisaddict Mar 2nd, 2005, 03:12 PM Well I voted for Sharapova because I think she is the best European player right now. But Henin is the best achievementswise obviously. I think that Ivanovic may become the best in the end but we"ll see. I never really saw Krajieck or Vaidisova play just bits and pieces so I can't form a opinion on them yet. timray Mar 2nd, 2005, 09:29 PM 1. Amelie Mauresmo 28  2. Justine Henin-Hardenne 19 3. Maria Sharapova 13 JenFan75 Mar 2nd, 2005, 09:36 PM LenaD of course. tennislover Mar 2nd, 2005, 09:46 PM 1) Henin 2) Momo 3) Sharapova shap_half Mar 2nd, 2005, 09:56 PM This obviously goes to Justine. She played about half the events of Sharapova and Mauresmo last year and still won more tournaments of higher significance. kiwifan Mar 2nd, 2005, 10:05 PM Sharapova :yeah: le bon vivant Mar 2nd, 2005, 10:06 PM Juju for sure. ASTRID Mar 2nd, 2005, 10:06 PM Henin ! Sharpova Kim faboozadoo15 Mar 2nd, 2005, 10:39 PM this is pretty easy... depending on what you mean. most accomplished active euro player-- justine best euro player right now-- maria though i can understand people voting amelie.... i voted sharapova because i think she's better. SzavayFi Mar 2nd, 2005, 10:57 PM Umm why isnt Daniela Hantuchova here ;) Heeves23 Mar 2nd, 2005, 11:24 PM I cant believe so many people voted for Mauresmo... Henin is wayyy better.. Just look at her results... She has many more slams... and she beats top players unlike Mauresmo.. Whenever Mauresmo gets close to winning a slam... she always chokes... Henin is by far the better player at this stage in their careers... and I think will always be. K-Dog Mar 2nd, 2005, 11:51 PM Um, isn't Russia in Asia? Just wondering? You can eliminate the Russians then. They aren't Europeans! Junex Mar 3rd, 2005, 12:16 AM Um, isn't Russia in Asia? Just wondering? You can eliminate the Russians then. They aren't Europeans! Geographically, Russia is part Europe part Asia. The russian territory is divided between Europe and Asia by the Ural Mountains. Moscow & St. Petersburg are European Russia while Siberia is Asian Russia, although Russia is recognized as part of Europe politically since its seat of power is in Moscow. Therefore, Maria Sharapova is born in Asian Russia, so technically she is not to be included in the poll. Back to the poll, well obviously the title goes to Justine Henin-Hardenne! lucashg Mar 3rd, 2005, 12:29 AM Justine is the best. She has achieved more than all others and will be back to achieve some more, as I think her career is far from over. For now, Maria has been playing excellent tennis - but isn't she asian as you guys said? She doesn't count! :p But since Russia is considered an european country, I guess we could say that, at the moment, she is the best european player. Let's not forget that neither Justine or Kim are playing, so they should come back and reassume their spots as best european players. MinnyGophers Mar 3rd, 2005, 12:34 AM I cant believe so many people voted for Mauresmo... Henin is wayyy better.. Just look at her results... Henin is by far the better player at this stage in their careers... and I think will always be. the thing is that Amelie beats Justine so i guess it is valid. but i did vote for Justine because of her accomplishments so far. kosmikgroove Mar 3rd, 2005, 12:54 AM the thing is that Amelie beats Justine so i guess it is valid. but i did vote for Justine because of her accomplishments so far. im recalling a certain Olympic Gold Medal Final that Justine won last summer.... selyoink Mar 3rd, 2005, 12:58 AM When healthy Henin-Hardenne is easily the best. Although Sharapova is closing in on her. MinnyGophers Mar 3rd, 2005, 01:00 AM im recalling a certain Olympic Gold Medal Final that Justine won last summer.... lol i'm talking head to head... mauresmo has an advantage over Justine, and we know well that Juju doesn't like playing Momo's fancy high balls :p VeraNuVirgosFan Mar 3rd, 2005, 01:01 AM Sharapova Masha!! Nikarock Mar 3rd, 2005, 03:10 AM ANA IVANOVIC ..ok so maybe she is not techincally the best but she has the potential and is my favorite. ;) Lady Mar 3rd, 2005, 08:53 AM the thing is that Amelie beats Justine so i guess it is valid. but i did vote for Justine because of her accomplishments so far. Sorry, but Justine leads in H2H. And even last year Justine was 2-1 against Momo! Szymanowski Mar 3rd, 2005, 10:09 AM this is pretty easy... depending on what you mean. most accomplished active euro player-- justine best euro player right now-- maria though i can understand people voting amelie.... i voted sharapova because i think she's better. think i agree; tho sharapova does have trouble against mauresmo timray Mar 3rd, 2005, 01:15 PM Amelie Mauresmo: Why she might be the best European: 1. Won 16 Tournaments (2 x Berlin, Rome, 2 x Canadian Open ) 2. She is the first French woman ranked #1 in tennis. 3. Beat Dementieva 6-0 6-0 in 2003 Paris. 4. Won the Olympic Gold Medal Why she might not be the best European: 1. Maria Sharapova Maria Sharapova: Why she might be the best European: 1. Won Wimbledon 2. Won Season-Ending Championships 3. Just because you think so?? améliemomo Mar 3rd, 2005, 01:58 PM russia is not Europe, sorry  timray Mar 3rd, 2005, 02:58 PM Why Maria is the reason for Justine not to be Best European, and Masha has none! Just because you think so?? for 2005, yes timray Mar 3rd, 2005, 02:59 PM russia is not Europe, sorry  Many countries doesn’t belong geographically to Europe but in the sport world they belong more to Europe than to Asia Countries like Turkey and Russia are always playing sport (soccer, basketball …) in Europe so there players are Europeans. Unfortunately Maria is playing for Russia but living in the u.s so the Americans can say that she is not an American and the Russians can say that she is not Russian, :o Now, the Europeans are saying that she is not a European, and I won’t be surprised if one of the Asians posters will post that she is also not a real Asian. :o Also the Afro-Americans doesn’t think that she is one of them. :wavey: But lucky for her, she has some fans that support her. :hearts: timray Mar 3rd, 2005, 07:35 PM 1. Justine Henin-Hardenne - 52 2. Amelie Mauresmo - 43 3. Maria Sharapova - 36 volta Mar 3rd, 2005, 09:18 PM Maria is American and America doesn´t belong to Europe :tape: volta Mar 3rd, 2005, 09:18 PM russia is not Europe, sorry  Russia is Europe Orion Mar 3rd, 2005, 10:16 PM Why no Dani ?? Well, Dani last one a title (incidentally her only one to date) in 2002... That said, a lot of the choices up here are dubious. Michaella Krajicek? She's a good up-and-comer, but to list her with the likes of Henin and Kuznetsova is absurd. | |
