I hope Serena is ready to play a super confident Mirza later on in the tournament. Sania has no fear of anyone and she really outplayed Kuznetsova today. She has a big game and desire, Rena and the rest of the top players have to really be on their games and not underestimate her!

Despite the fact that I lost some vCash money ;-)i'm very happy for Mirza, who's been able to return in the match after a 0-4 partial... sh's very very good on the baseline, has to improve the service but, however, today has played very well!

The crowd were very unfair. Cheering Kuzzy's errors and double faults really loudly, and cheering during the points that wernt over and putting her off getting the ball back. The umpire nearly kicked some fans out of the stadium.

But the atmosphere was awesome

ok...everybody says: "Myskina and Dementieva will be out of top 10"
"KUznetsova and Sharapova will be top 10"

IMO just Lena and Masha has chances in top 10
look the results..since that Kuzna won USO she played AWFUL!!

stop saying that Dementieva will fall..we all know who will.....

I agree that Sharapova and Dementieva will the russians with more chances in top10

Kuzna and Nastya...hum  what is going on?!
but ok...peoples still say that Dementieva will fall.......and nobody see Kuzna...

Yes but u must have seen the match coz Mirza was just lucky !!!
I mean, she played well and deserved to win of course but she was in a good day, she reminded me Lina Krasnoroutskaya at Toronto in 2003 when she deafeted Kim Clijsters.
She successed in everything she tried !!!
And Svetlana didn't change her game.
She should have played another way I mean tried to do things but she didn't so that's it.
So I don't think it will be so easy in the next matches but we'll see...

Mirza is obviously the best young player at the moment
I saw Ivanovic for the first time last week but the composure Mirza showed today is really adorable ;) :)
She took 6/6 of her BPs which for the underdog in a match is shocking!!!

Congrats Sania ;)

That's a bit harsh. Sania has had a great year. She started the year outside the top 200, she's now 97 and will obviously rise. She got to the 3rd round of OZ and then won her first title! Yea the crowd helped today but she deserved to win, and she can clearly play! Go Sania! :)

Amazing. She's gotten at least 100% better in 2 months. That win in India was a Gigantic confidence booster. She's been playing a lot better under the influence of India. I still kinda consider her a trader for leaving America but honestly with the likes of Serena, Venus, Lindsay, and Capriati she had no chance to come into her own. She's going to have an amazing career on hard courts. She'll just have to learn the rest during the way.

you're getting her confused with Shikha Uberoi who played Venus at the USO
Sania played Serena at the OzOPen

I was shocked when I saw that Mirzia won especially by that scoreline. I saw her match against Serena at the AO and thought she was good enough to get in the top 50 but not beat someone like Kuznetsova at least not so early on. Her AO performance certainly wasn't a fluke like some people thought.

Good for her:bounce:
I've been following her career for a good few...............weeks now.
Well, I've been looking for her results since Serena said those nice things about her at the Oz Open.

She'll continue to rise through out the year I reckon, but next year will be a battle, because she'll no longer be a suprise to any of the top players.

Anyway, long may her success continue!
ps. does anyone have a pic of her or anything, because I don't know what she looks like.

Mirza is actually a very good prayer, she's only 17 years old and last month the tournament in Hyderabad, and she was also a winner in the doubles last year in Wimbledon's Juniors. She is a big star and she will show her talent in the next couple of years!

Kunal
Mar 3rd, 2005, 04:44 AM
She's 18 not 17. She won the junior doubles at Wimbledon last year. Just hope this inspires more people in India to take sports seriously...She will definitly be a role model for some aspirsing tennis players in the subcontinent.

I love diversity in sports...and now China and India are slowly starting to show potential. China has much more depth compared to India and I think we will see some really good Chinese players by the time the next Olympics come, which are also held in China.
Coincidence...or predetermined focus to this goal?
