The Daniela/Alicia result is not total craziness given they were tied at 2-2 for last year. :)

What are the chances of Linds being upset by Zheng :scared:
One thing for sure...........this tourney has still got some surprises in stock for us.

Mar 1st, 2005, 04:48 PM
It's not very surprising. Kuznetsova hasn't being playing great since Beijing.
She didn't look herself at the YEC. The pressure from the drug allegations is getting to her as well. Molik might be a little tired but hantuchova has always played her close.
Venus has never played up to her standards at Dubai.

and I'm loving all these shock results! :D

Mar 1st, 2005, 04:55 PM
None of them shocked me at all, except the scoreline in Sania's match. I thought she could win but not so easily....it does sound like the crowd helped take Kuznetsova out of it toward the end though.

Venus losing is not surprising...she loses a lot these days. And Hantuchova beat Molik at the US Open, right? Also not a huge upset.

While presenting the trophy and cheque, Justine barges pass the security and yanks the winners hair and grabs the prize and says

'How dare you, it's my tournement and I should be the winner regardless of whether I played or not'

THAT would be shocking!

the only way it could be more shocking is if Serena or Lindsay loses.

Lindsay has already lost her doubles did I see? Elena B beating Serena isn't entirely impossible.

Given the winner is likely to be a lot bigger than her, it'd also be deeply unwise! ;)

Serena losing......considering that you can count her losses in 1st rounds since 1999 on two fingers, it'd be shocking..

All these shock wins/losses make the tournament more exciting, don't you all reckon??

at least they all still get their appearance fees ;)

Yeah - well - maybe that's the problem. Maybe the motivation to win just isn't there when you know you're going to be getting a good chunk of change - win or lose. Maybe the players getting large appearance fees look at this week as a vacation?

Yeah, but she lost to the number 4 seeds... that's not an upset. Hopefully it helped her get used to the courts too.

BTW I hope judging by the results so far that Jie Zheng can beat Lindsay Davenport 6-1 6-0 ;)

Very shocking result so far! I sure do hope that Serena does not fall.

I think I have seen some of the worst tennis in this tournament. Most of the players are playing poorly. Very Bad! Jelena Jankovic is struggling against Silvia Farina- Elia. What next

I don't know who will win, I have to wait and see how good Lindsay and Serena play tomorrow.

Didn't Sania give Serena some competition at the AO?

Nothing is impossible, but it's improbable, because Bovina has no weapons to hurt Serena with, unless Serena is injured.

i put 50 on hantuchova so i feel like i have really achieved onr of my major life goals as i now have 562 of this Vcash, and i have no idea what it actually does.

now when patty wins the tournament i will have much more of this life enhancing Vcash because i have 50 on her as well. why did i not bet it all? it's a lock!!

at least they all still get their appearance fees ;)

i think this is what some people call: "take the apperance fee and run" (i.e. run as in lose in the early rounds, better yet the first round) ;)

kidding aside, so far this year, dubai has been the most suprising. its has become the tournament of upsets.

i wouldn't be surprised anymore if mirza wins the title

Of course, maybe that DOES make it shocking ;)

Didn't Sania give Serena some competition at the AO?

She did actually. Serena had to serve her off the court to win. I think she hit like 12 aces in that match. Serena had 2 match points at 5-3 in the 2nd set...and Sania made Serena close it out at 5-4.

Gowza
Mar 2nd, 2005, 02:56 AM
kuznetsova/mirza, mirza has been in form sveta hasnt really and mirza has made great leaps this year and has a lot of confidence so the chance was always their, but still would have expected sveta to win. alicia/dani kind of surprising, would have expected molik to win but hantuchova seems to be getting better and better and molik has had some tight matches in the early rounds at the last couple of tournaments as well. venus/silvia, expected venus to win but there was always doubt (as there has been the last year or so) and silvia is a decent enough player.

myskina on results this year will be the next if anyone.

Myskina and Schnyder have tough opponents.
