Well anyone who assumed Venus wouldn't be injured or lose in Fantasy Tennis have their work cut out for them. Good match from Farina. Venus has never played very well at Dubai for her standards. Time to reconsider playing here next year.

Haha, as dreadful as that match was, it was exciting to watch, esp that 2nd set TB.
Silvia looked soooo nervous at the end, I thought she was gonna choke big time. But at the change of ends she managed to get herself together, she played the last 2 points with much more conviction. Still, even she played a pretty bad match. At times Venus was unbearable to watch!

Congrats Silvia :) Better luck next time Vee! :)

That is the most painful match I've ever watched

I don't know whether to be happy for Silvia or want to punch her :o

I hope to fucking God this match might give her belief cos she makes Amelie look the best player ever mentally. It was horrible watching how little belief she had and she knew it. I mean how she survived from 5-2 and 2 amtch points. 5-4. 6-2 in TB to still win is  It would have one of the biggest chokes ever. Well :) She won't be winning to many more top players though but this is a big win :D

Venus :tape: No matter what anyone says she really could have won this in 2. She had so many chances against a clearly nerve-wobbling player yet couldn't finish it.

Match point #7 :worship: How Venus didn't win it

Yea I noticed Venus' serve was pretty poor today. She was not jumping to hit the ball, almost as if she was injured again, maybe her stomach/abdominals. Not sure, but she definitely wasn't putting everything into it. However her general movement didn't seem that hindered.

Pathetic match

Wouldn't give the referee or the umpire many points either. Venus, evidently not knowing you can't have 2 medical time outs for one injury asks for another one in the changeover as her bandage is falling off. Umpire talks to refereee and sends for trainer instead of asking is it a new problem and making the inevitable decision quickly , changeover is by now over. Trainer and referee ask Venus is the injury new. she says no and they say you can't have a timeout you need to ask for the trainer to come on next changeover. Meanwhile whilst this delay is going on Silvia is thinking about how not to serve out the match.....Those who should know the rules either don't or ignore them and those who decide things only do so after not deciding. Credit to the trainer though who seems to have said sorry can't touch that within seconds of arriving.

Here is what Silvia has to say on wtatour.com

"I started thinking, 'I'm going to beat Venus', and I lost my concentration," said Farina Elia on failing to close out the second set. "Fortunately, I managed to get it back again and I did finish her off."

Farina Elia was glad to close out the match in straight sets, especially since momentum may have shifted to the American after multiple match points saved in the second set.

"After she saved seven match points, it's hard to say if I could react positively if I lost the 2nd set," Farina Elia said. "I've been in that situation before so I wanted to keep fighting to close it out in two sets."
