I have no idea, except that it must be quite a lot. :)

I heard the appearance fee is somewhere around $650,000. Don't quote me on that for sure, as it may not be accurate.

anyone one who get such a fantastic line up in both men and women's tour must be doing something right. prixe money would be 93000 for the winner like in all tier 2s.

They might have paid even more to get both Venus and Serena at the tournament.

and how much do you think they paid Andre and Roger to play tennis on the helipad?

That might have been included in their appearance fee. :)

But, I thought that appearance fees were still illegal under WTA rules. I know that they've been giving appearance money throughout history, but, unlike men's tennis it's under the table. Is that still the case?

just to lure Andre on board (it's the first time he's ever played in the Middle East), for sure it cost them several hundred thousand dollars - half a million wouldnt be an unreasonable guess, and it might even be too low. Roger for sure got a nice chunk as well although maybe less than Andre, since Roger has played there plenty of times in the past.

I bet Serena and Sharapova got 2 or 3 hundred thousand each, Davenport Myskina and Venus at least a hundred thou.

Maria's not playing.
Anastasia is playing this, but not IW, where she would be defending 210 points.
Sveta skipped Paris, Antwerp, and Doha, where she was defending 260 points.

Every tournament pays top players.

Shame they can't just play for the pleasure of winning the tournament, the prize Money and the money from sponsorship that they'll get if they do well.

why is it a shame? You wouldnt be saying this if you were in the players' place. Would you want to be paid less money than the market value of your job? I don't think so.

Do you have a proof?

It's common knowledge Dubai does, I know Hamburg used to do it for women. But except that, I don't recall reading or hearing about tournaments giving $$$ for players to come play. It's obvious some do, but I wouldn't say it's the norm.

I remember reading Sampras got 500K to play in Dubai (or Doha?).

In '98 or '99, i read that Sampras had a million-dollar guarantee to play the Hong Kong Open (a tournie which offered a winner's prize of only 30,000$! ) But he ended up backing out of the deal, i don't remember why, injury maybe, or criticism from the ATP.
