6 months ago, she was already a Wimby champ and she's just been backing it up with more great stuff. by the way when ppl were making it a rule to call her a tier III queen, they were just jealous and scared of her cuz deep down they knew her days would come sooner rather than later and they are almost here now.

Plus most of those calling her by that title were Willy fans who Maria has been scaring the shit out of now and then.

OK - this is getting on my nerves. We all know that Maria has made huge progress during the last few months and that she's still got tons of room for improvement. We don't need 5 new threads everyday to brag about her! You guys get mad at Williams fans when we start one thread about Serena or Venus doing well, and yet you guys start all these stupid UNNECESSARY threads about Maria!?? Honestly, give it a break! She's a great kid - let her career do the talking for her. We don't need to say anything because she's saying it all by herself right now.

hmmm... must we be too defensive eh....

Anyway as a fan and a member of this GM, i have all the right to create thread such as this and besides this is a celebration for her winning a first tier 2 title..

A prelude to completion her collection of titles!

I didn't see anything wrong with that?

One more thing, i didn't create this thread for some williams fans who can't get off the nerve of Maria winning a title again and nearing at becoming the next world #1.

And all the Williams fans jump on this thread  Anyway, Maria is not my favourite player but I can't help but admire her at the moment. Now they are saying ow she has only won tier 2;s whats the big deal? But a couple of months back, they were whining about her not beating any top 10 player, only playing tier III. I love it how she proved all those haters wrong. I wonder what they will say in the future. ""She won a couple of slams, so what? Graf has 22. She's not great "" :tape:
You go Maria

Maria is the best player of WTA now, obviously. By the time she will start defending points in July, she will be leading rankings by more than a thousand points. She will be #1 before clay season starts, and only miracle from Davenport can prevent it form happening.

this is a tennis board-- to point out that a player (who is very young) has already won a very wide variety of titles has a place here. it's tennis trivia and is what is meant to be discussed here.

i know for a fact that if most players had this big of a variety of titles, there would be threads about it. the thing is, no one else does.

for people to jump in here and criticize thew thread when there are threads that are totally non tennis related is just absurd.

Winning her 1st Tier III title in October 2003 at 16; and gaining experience from playing, and confidence from winning Tier III tournaments did help Masha play better at bigger tournaments and GS events latter on.

Some 10 years ago it was far more difficult to bridge the gap between success at TierIII/IV tournaments and success at TierI/slam tournaments. Sharapova and Molik are living proof how easy it is nowadays to get to the top (Mauresmo and Davenport how easy it is to stay at the top .... ).

It might not be as "easy" if the Williams sisters were not injured after Wimbledon 2003, and the Belgian girls were not injured and not having virus after the Australian Open 2004.

What's the problem with fans raving about a player who is doing well and is on a rising curve in her career????? I remember this board when Venus and Serena were coming along and there were multiple threads about how well they were doing and that they were godesses and princesses and other hyperbole. When the two of them were dominating there were tons of threads with "in your face" titles such as: Venus opens a can of Whoop Ass on whoever, or Serena demolishes whoever.

Yeah, I'm sure that those threads were necessary. Clearly, the fans of Venus and Serena didn't need to say anything at all because both Venus and Serena were saying it all, but I didn't notice any of their fans shutting up then, and it's a little  that Maria fans are being told to shut up and not celebrate how happy they are about her success in whatever terms they choose.

Sorry if someone already said this. :o

This IS a tennis message board, afterall. You know you don't have to read this thread about Maria's tournament wins the same way that you don't have to read about a player going on TV, taking bath, or experiencing a severe "camel toe".

Maria has come a long way in a very short time (after a decade of hard work) and apparantly is only going to get better. As another poster pointed out, Maria turned to a couple lower tier tournaments to improve her shot selection and regain confidence and it certainly helped her, so it seems it was a pretty good idea. Of course she still needs to work on her shots which obviously she will continue to do.

I'm still sort of new to the board; I haven't been here that long. So, I can imagine that there were a lot of threads about Serena and Venus doing well, and I'll give you that one. But - I'm not telling the Maria fans to shut up - I'm a Maria fan too! What I'm saying is that we don't need 5 new threads everyday to compliment every single little thing she does. It's getting ridiculous. Two weeks ago, someone got on here and blasted the Williams fans for starting stupid threads, while ignoring the fact that Maria fans do the same thing - if not more than Williams fans do! We don't need an entirely new thread about Maria's every little accomplishment. If you have something to say about Maria, put it in a thread that's already started - there's no need to start a completely new thread to worship her. That's all I'm saying.
