You know last year if anyone were to ask if Myskina was going to win RG, I bet most of you would say hell no too! But anything can happen!

No surprises this time, serena is back on track, she plays good on it too, venus getting her game back which now now seems more suited to the clay, there is a host of players who now approach her like a real threat which makes a mighty difference. Plus no one has repeated RG in a very long time, it is just one of those slams that are near impossible to repeat unlike the AO.

Given injuries, the importance of the draw when ranking doesn't tell you much about who beats whom in the top 10, the dangerous people (most recently Safina) found anywhere in the top 50, Kim as a floater, Jen and Justine returning, the problem people have winning second sets, the problems 3 of the top 10 have winning big titles, the inevitable Dechy or Saurez having a great week, the fact that clay doesn't really suit 3 of the top 10 and the inconsistency of most of the top 20, anyone of a large number of people could win.

Nastya needs to calibrate her groundshots a bit more and get her shoulder better so her serve works better - given her recent performances against Lindsay, Maria, Sveta, Serena and Venus she might then be fully back in contention.

she may win the uso though! She has the game for the hardcourt, the speed and the experience to win a slam!

Not unless she can find some better form on clay court this year.

Feb 26th, 2005, 04:55 AM
She is my favorite player on tour but I still voted hell no. I think her form so far this year is not even top 20. Plus before last year she had won only 1 match at RG. I think she has very little chance of winning again.

Exactly. Never say never. But she won't at the rate she is going right now. Either way she has a way to go to get prepared to defend.

Hell no for me, but its not impossible, My faves for now are Venus and JuJu :)

Tricky question - i predicted, rather wrongly, that Myskina would lose to Molik in round one and then she took everyone by surprise by beating Capriati and Venus and then destroying Dementieva in the final.

It could happen, but something is sadly wrong with Myskina at the moment. Hopefully she can kick start her year off soon with some good wins.

I think Anastasia is one of the major contenders.
But it's still 3 months away.
So Anastasia is THE French Open champion for at least the next 3 months.

I think I will become the next Queen...I don´t even care what I think...so what sense does this thread make anyway? Until the day she won the FO last year, no one believed in her...the polls here were always against her in all her single matches, starting with her first round match vs. Alicia Molik, ending with the final vs. Dementieva and even after that she was the "no she was handed the win"-girl, so what the heck?!?

goldenlox
Feb 26th, 2005, 04:47 PM
Not only were the polls against her, I heard Mary Joe Fernandez say the bottom half was between Serena, Venus, and Jennifer.
She didn't even mention Anastasia.
Anastasia lost only 14 games after her round of 16 match.

I don't think so, you have got players like Serena who won it once, Alicia Molik, maybe Kim Clijster and Justine, also Amelie who are really good on clay.

I kinda feel sorry for Myskina after these humiliating losses. IThats why I would want her to win a slam this year. Wouldn't it be something if she won WImbledon? I hate her game but I like the girl. Prove me wrong Nastya!

Melly Flew Us
Feb 27th, 2005, 12:32 AM
why not?
she needs to stop this s about restraining herself on the court and cuss and break racquets like last year.
i hope this silence of the lambs act ain't coz she's back with her coach.

Feb 27th, 2005, 12:43 AM
She's turning into too big a choker to repeat. She's let a lot of big matches go lately. Until she can get some big time wins under her belt before Paris, don't count on her winning it again.

Feb 27th, 2005, 01:10 AM
At this time last year everyone was saying Myskina would never win a slam, and look at what she has accomplished. She will turn on the guns again sometime soon I hope!

LesViolettes
Feb 27th, 2005, 05:12 AM
You know, I think I'd like her to, just because it would be such a shock. And she could do with a big win at the moment, what with her recent form. If Amélie Mauresmo could succeed in winning RG I might die of happiness (actually I might just die of surprise); but either one of those two would be pretty good. Realistically I don't think Myskina's going to get it. But oh, it would be great if she did.

Feb 27th, 2005, 06:41 AM
excuse me, just to remind u that last year myskina had to defend both her titles at doha and moscow, which she did beating top10 players, when she was in the midst of a slump, especially after the Olympics and Us Open... she has a much better chance of doin well there and maybe even winning it as opposed to mauresmo who will have a month-long stay at the psychologists office after going out in the fourth round or something...

and shouldnt there be a thread regarding dementieva and whether she will be able to defend her final appearances in miami, roland garros, and the us open? hell yes and the answers should all be hell no!

say bye bye demented... no more titles for u
