Wow, Federer and Alicia are the King and Queen of 3 set tiebreaks in the last few weeks :). Great win, Alicia!

Congrats Alicia

Does anyone know why the match was so tough? With Molik's current form I would have expected her to win slightly easier. I know Schiavone is a tough opponent but Alicia beat Venus in straight sets a few weeks ago!

I know I mention this every time these two players meet, but it's great to see another pay back for when Schiavone cheated her way to a 7-6 final set win over Alicia at Eastbourne last year. She was regularly advised on tactics throughout by her coach, who sat as far away from the umpire as possible, and spoke in Italian, which was promptly translated to me by the Italian friend I was with. It was appalling.

Alicia has big improvements in these tough matches! :) Sooner or later, she'll be defeating the top players like this.

Alicia! Geez a little closer than I hoped it would be, but you've had trouble with Fran in the past so a good win... you'll need to player better against Momo though!

It should have been a much easier, straight set victory for a rejuvinated Alicia.

Anyway, whatever. Well done!!! :woohoo:

It's great to see Molik winning all these close matches. It shows she has the confidence even when things get tight. I actually like Schiavone's game and thought it would be a good match.

at a guess. Francesca is having a good week. In her good weeks she takes top 12 players to 3 tight sets.

Alicia isn't quite playing at her AO level as far as I can see and on her good days Francesca is far less fragile than Venus.the second set comeback and tight third set is a trademark. She's also fast, keeps points going and mixes things up which suits Alicia less well if its a day when Francesca isn't hitting UE at Venus's rate.

win/loss record is very impressive. but alicia doesnt seem to be beating players as easily as she was during the australian circuit. the last 2 tournaments she's had much tighter matches than she would have in australia, still she is getting through them. well done.

schiavone always plays alicia tough. In sydney molik lead 5/0 only to win it in a tie break, i guess schiavone's never say die attitude gets more errors errors out of molik.
