Is she the greater surprise than sharapova, as the comentator said?

of course.

I remember when sharapova 1st came out she lost in the 1st round of 2 grandslams but ivanovic had a much better debut on the tour.

Ana will be the next big thing;) :bounce:

For me she is a really strong player with huge baseline shots and a great service..
mentally she showed yesterday solid nerve when from 0-4 down she came back to 3-4.

I love her and I think she can be top 15 before US open!

Oh really? Considering Ana is near the same age as Maria, I don't agree that Ana is necessarily having much better debut.

Maria was what 15 when she made her debut?

There is no comparison between the two players. But, Ana is an obvious talent and i am sure in the next few years she will be a major threat in the Grand Slams.

It was my first time seeing her. I was very impressed, and from what I can tell, she seems like a nice person too. I hope her and Jelena (Jankovic) can both have a really good year!! Good luck for the future Ana! :D

You know the most scariest thing about Ana is that she seems to be so confident on court...she looks like as if she had seen everything already, like she´s been a pro all her life. Pretty interesting. Should be in Top 15 at the end of the year. Biggest problem is accuracy in her baseline game, her shots are like "either they go in perfectly or they go wide out".

German commentator actually said she was Kournikova-material...lol, yeah brunette version, that WTA-profile pic of her is just stunning  . If I were a pro, I would like them to put up a similar pic of me :toothy:. Sponsorship material for sure.

I haven't seen her play yet. They barely showed her match against
LD from the AO.

What's her style like? Typical baseliner with 2 handed strokes etc..
Anything unusual? All court game? Flare? Noisy? Nobody has
really described her playing style. In fact most people up at
GM don't seem to say much except "she's hot" or "She's
confident". I need more info. Something to give me a
better impression.

It takes a very interesting player to win me over. I don't bandwagon
hop nor glory hunt for stars or winners.

What's so special about Ana?

I agree. The tour's answer to Kournikova, but one that will probably perform better on the court. I have never seen her play and I'm already a fan so I'm guessing she has the IT factor. :hearts:   :worship:

You know, as we both have the same faves, there might be a possibilty you would actually like her;)

Game style? Agressive baseline-game, she always goes for the big shots/winners, extreme hard hitter on the forehand, but also very nice backhand. One handed forehand, double-handed backhand. First serve is quite impressive, max. at about 182 km/h, second serve is better than the one of some top-ten players, but still needs some work. She likes to dominate rallies, not really into defense. She says she likes to play on all surfaces but it seems like Hardcourt is the best for her. Due to her heavy baseline shots, she can also play some very nice approach-shots and come to the net, volleys are ok. Well, basically her style of game is to attack, attack, attack and never look back...due to her inexperience, she´s way too impatient sometimes, misses a lot of shots if her game is not on, but I think that´s something she can work on it.

There were tons of articles on the Japanese tennis website
that feature those challenger ITF events she won there last
year. They seemed to described her game as a young
Lindsay Davenport type. Lot's of sweeping, crisp strokes
w/out the really grimace efforts. Is this correct?

Yes. SHe does remind me of Lindsay. Solid and powerful groundies. THe serve is not as consistent and well-placed as Lindsay's though but she will probably improve. Her movement is bad. Slightly better than Lindsay and Hantuchova. Volleys are decent but need more work. SHe is indeed aggressive and is lethal with short balls or high balls. A good overhead too. If Ana's on, she plays exactly like Lindsay davenport. I have seen her a couple of times and the best I've ever seen her play was the first set against Mauresmo yesterday. She didn't show any emotion in the first two sets so she's not similar to SHarapova for example.

Come to think of it, yeah a little bit. She doesn´t really need to run a lot on court. E.g. in her first set yesterday vs. Mauresmo, she would just stand there and try to hit constant hard forehand shots to Momo´s backhand side until she´s completely on the left side, finishing it off with a nice shot on her open forehand side, nice...yeah, the strokes definetly remind of Lindsay, not as good of course, but a very nice try.

LOL! I said that to my dad and he agreed. Ana does ressemble Lindsay a little in the looks department. Of course Ana is hot and Lindsay is not.

See? She's already getting a reputation for being hot. This is what will attract people to tennis. It's the IT factor. ;)

I guess compared to Sharapova everyone looks "bigger", cause according to WTAtour.com Miss Sharapova weighs the same as Myskina...so go figure;)

adje ana!! i hope that means something good.

LOL, it was a typo.
Actually it should be "Ajde Ana" (or 'Ajde Ana more precisely), meaning "Come on Ana"

She says is it a lot during matches to pump herself up. So, it's not that she says: "Aiiii" as Eurosport commentator said  , but "Ajde!".
