Patty Fendick

C'mon people, am I the only person here who totally loved Patty Fendick?

And she is most famous for one thing:

Being Martina Hingis' debut opponent in Zurich in 1994.

made up for it a couple of weeks later in Brighton, when she whipped Mary Joe though...

I loved Patty's all-out attacking style. She gave Graf fits.

I remember reading about one time that Patty came into her press conference and asked "Why do kamikazes wear helmets?"

I remember when she played Steffi once in Amelia Island and I never saw two players so much fooling around as that day! She seems to be a funny person:D

Patty said the 'Why do kamikazes wear helmets?" quote after beating Jana Novotna at the Aus Opne in the early 90's. She was down 61 40 and decided to full-on attack and charge the net etc.... and somehow won the match.

She apparently wore a cap all the time because she had an eye condition that couldn't handle too much sunlight.

The cap is the one thing I recall most about Patty. She managed to give top players a lot of trouble without actually beating them.
