View Full Version : Question to Lena

If you had the oppertunity to ask Lena one question, what would it be?

I would ask her whether she doesn't kind of regret that she never went to university for a higher education than secondary. She says she would like to have studied for doctor if tennis hadn't existed.

Of course she still has the oppertunity to do so after her career.

i'd ask her for advice on becoming a sports player for a living.food, health, training, tips etc.

... she never went to university for a higher education than secondaryin fact, she did, but quit as she said it's impossible to honestly combine with active playing...

Well Lena is very intelligent anyways so i think she can study once she finishes tennis ,she made the right decision.

Agreed. A university degree is nice, but it's not necessarily proof on intelligence. Nor does the lack of one indicate a lack of intelligence.

Last time I checked, Lena's worth was a lot more than mine!

I'm finally back! I was having a winter holiday. ;)
Question to Lena?
Which players on Tour are your friends and will you play in Warsaw or in Sopot City ever?

Hmmm..... I'd go with "marry me?" :p

Seriously though, maybe I'd ask "What aspects of ordinary life do you miss, being a famous and highly successful tennis player?"

"How many racquets have you smashed in your career thus far? (the ones smashed on court mind you)"

Good question.

And again good question ;)
I rather prefer Lena plays in Sopot (it's close to my city - Gdańsk)

A hockey player she hangs around with. His sister, Katya, is trying to make it on the tour.

What is your name?

What is your quest?

What is the airspeed velocity of a fully laden swallow?

Sorry. I couldn't resist.

If I can ask her questions,"

I will say to her,"Today, you are so famous and there are many crazy boys here love you and say a lot of things about you although I know that you won't know about them at all. You are so famous but I don't think you even know about this website." But time is running and I will ask her,"Thirty years after today, when you are 53 years old and you sit in your room on your own, will you feel comfortable since you have already done many things in your life for many people who you love OR probably you just sit on your own remembering the sweet experience when you became famous tennis player but you feel lonely when you are old."

Just remind Elena and you all that Live is short my friends. Make your life wonderful!

Would it really matter whether you would meet her before or after her retirement?
I don't really think she'll be a very different person after she retires.

Ehm, yeah you are right. It could be and couldn't be. Just want to know what she thinks about her life (though it is her privacy) when she is not a tennis player anymore. Anyway, it is just a dream. How can I meet her? She is so famous and I am only ordinary person who has no big chance even for going abroad from my home country. So dont take it so serious :lick:

The internet is a start. You can hack into a bank and get money. Then you can buy a plane ticket to Moscow and hunt her down. Shes not incredibly famous here, a newspaper called her "Jelena" Dementieva to my disgust.

Well actually Stefan, in Russian her name is pronounced as Jelena. I don't know how her name is written in Russian, but I wouldn't be surprised if the English speaking world simply 'cut off' that first letter. I used to think her name was Jelena as well.

Exactly. In Poland her name is written Jelana. I hate it. When read Jelena it's ok but don't wright like this.
In Russian it's written: Елена Дементьева.
Russian E is read as Je (in English it's something like Ye). It's not 'cut off' - just different reading.

Yeah like the semi-Australian Jelena Dokic, but spelt differently. I don't like it when they spell it wrong.

I know that Elena was jelena (I prefer Elena and after she hear that for years, probably she too )...I think.

Ok, and what about Dementieva?
It's just how you read?

Alenyaa
Feb 16th, 2005, 03:53 PM
According to the WTA-website (they spelled it so that us, simple souls, could read it as well :p): de-ment-ye-vuh.
Underlined text means you should lay the stress on that sylable.

The pronounciation was discussed here countless times...
see, e.g., postings 16 and 17 in http://wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=125919 thread...
if needed, it's possible to find other postings or just repeat some more-correct variants of English-written approximations of Russian names... they'll never be EXACT, of course, those are different spoken systems...
and there were postings quoting some players saying alike "they'll never be able to say it right, so i don't bother at all"...
btw, you can always hear some Russian-speaking commentators, e.g. here http://www.radiomayak.ru/media/docs/04/06/03/30065/audio1.asf, it's enough to listen to first 8 seconds...
if anyhow you're interested, you're welcome to ask, and somebody of us here knowing Russian will answer :wavey:

True indeed ,its obvious to anyone with half reasonable eyesight that Lena is in simply superb shape ,I am envious of her speed and power ,she obviously works very hard at it ,but she is also blesed with good genitics ,giving her a tall powerfully built body..

hehe funny funny!! What I Meant to say ,was that Lena has a Naturally strong build ,even without all the excercising she does ,she would still be a tall strong girl ,its how shes built ,so her Genetics are good ,ideal for tennis in fact ,as I have heard commentators say.

Her Excercise regime has obviously moved her up to a whole new level and not many can come close to her ,but she has the underlying build which helps..

RIght then Alenyaa!! I am getting reports of Blocked Toilets on deck 5 section E ,better get ya Rubber Gloves on Mate!! haha ,just kidding , BTW has anyone ever seen Lenas Dad? or was she built in a laborartory? would explain why shes so perfect!!

Well Capt,

that's one of the questions i am wondering when i see mommy Vera on TV, where's her Dad??, never seen a pic of Lena's dad, but i have tried to imagine his face lots of times

Yes, Capt, Lena's is incredibly natural build, i have never seen such a beautiful athletic body in all my life ;) She's also incredible fast, she gets the most unbelievable balls and shots sometimes, sometimes i look and i think, hmm well she can't reach that ball, but then she gets and i think wow, how the hell does she do it??
