Too bad!!

Hello everyone. It was too bad I couldn't get into MD as a LL in Miami (I was the first in the list!!). I was very tired of staying at the place for 4 days, but it was a good experience!
I'll move up to Hilton Head tomorrow, and practice for the next 4 days.
It'll be 7-hour drive tomorrow!! ahhh... long, but it'll be done...

Days in Hilton Head

For three days after the Miami tourney, I went to Tommy (Thomas Shimada)'s house and practiced at the Van Der Meer there. Tomorrow morning, I'll do the last practice there and go to Amelia Island. It was really fun and I could practice really well and relax too. It was good to see Tommy and Mr. Yokobori.

Hilton Head is a really nice place. I like it! If possible, I'd love to come back here. The practice was a bit hard, but I had some lessons from Tommy as well.

My match starts from Saturday. First time on green clay!! I'll do my best!

Everyone! Hello. Cherryblossoms are full blooming now in Japan! It's really a nice season!!

Yesterday, I came back to Japan. I had a day off. It's getting warmer here in Japan so it's very easy to spend. I woke up really early thanks to jetlag. In the morning, I went to have haircut. In America, my hair got so much damaged and got blonde hair!? and in the afternoon, I went to the dentist and drove to Utsubo Koen (Park) to make a reservation for a court tomorrow. Can't book a court by phone a day before!! Next tournament will be clay court...so I'll practice at Utsubo. They got red clay, not so many in Osaka... and went out to do grocery shopping for dinner!
mmm, been a long time to drove... a bit scary...but safely I could return anyway. I can't sleep well at night time...so now I am sleepy... nite!

This is her first time to be in the team.
Other members are Akiko Morigami, Rika Fujiwara and Saori Obata.

Ai and Shinobu will skip the fedcup for the tournaments.
Also, the captain would like to have these young generations to have experiences.

Czech players are all ranked 40s and 50s... so it'll be tough... but do your best!! :)

Aiko's message=
Everyone thanks for writing messages always.
I'd love to play my best tennis for the fed cup games.
This is my first, so I am really excited.

Hope to be in the top condition against Czech, will practice for a few more days here.

With other members, we'll do the best!!

I came back from Czech yesterday. It was my first Fed, was a very good experience. We could team up and find well. The result was unfortunate, but we'll try again.

It had been a while since the last time I played in a team. It was really fun and sad, but I was really proud to play as a representative of Japan.

I flew to Paris from Praha, and came back to Narita today...and flew back to Itami... I am tired!!!
I'll start practicing from tomorrow for Gifu... I can't sleep cuz of the jetlag... My eyes r so open!!

The Gifu tournament is just done. It was a bit unfortunate.
I'll switch my feeling and will do the best in Fukuoka.
My match was finished yesterday, and I went back to Osaka. I took a day off today and will get some massage and relax.

I'll go to Fukuoka tomorrow, and my matches go on. It's been a while to play in Japan, so I am really enjoying it. so, next week, I hope to be in Fukuoka on the final day.

Please give me lots of supports!!

May 10 Aiko's Message

Today, I had my first round at Fukuoka Int'l. My match was the second match of the day. I woke up at 7 and took a 8:15 shuttle bus to the tournament. I did a morning warmup from 9 to 10. My match began at 11:30. The opponent is Mayumi Yamamoto. I got the first set 6-1, but the second set started with 0-3, and went far to 2-5, but I could catch up to 5-5. I had a point for 6-5, but lost it...and kept my serving game for the tie breaker, and won the tiebreaker 8-6.
In the evening, I practiced with Ayumi Morita. She's only 15 and very cuuuute!
I took a 4:30 shuttle back to hotel. I wandered around Canal City and ate dinner. I have no match tomorrow, just practice... I'll do my best!

(Aiko's response to the fan who showed his disappointment about her attitude after the tough loss.)

Everyone who gave me huge support today at the tournament, thank you very much. I played my best, but the result was unfortunate. Morita played really great, and also I have some things to improve for the next.
I'll switch my mind, and will do my best again.
I remember leaving the court without saying thank you or anything after the match. I really feel bad about the fans who supported me during the match. I know this sounds like an excuse...but after the match, I couldn't face up...didn't think anything that time. I am really ashamed as a pro. I am sorry for my fans. I understand that fans wouldnt support me like with my today's attitude.
As my apology, for the tomorrow's auction, I left my shoes that I wore today.

To (the fan who posted the message)
You tried to talk to me, but I am sorry that I couldnt respond. I'd like to apologize to your friend as well. I listened to him. Honestly, I was really glad, and those words gave me a huge encouragement. but it'd be very nice if you could understand my feeling as well. After reading your message, I really felt bad. I am really sorry even though you gave me big supports till the end.

Congratulations to Aiko for her very impressive fight against Sesil Karatancheva winning a deciding match for Japan 6-4, 7-6(2)! She almost had a meltdown in the second set being down 2-5 but fought hard for a big win for her and Japan! Especially exciting after a tough battle against Maleeva for her yesterday losing in 3 sets. This has to be a career highlight in her young career so congrats Aiko!

After the Fedcup, I flew to America today. I didn't have much time before leaving Japan...but now I am at Chicago airport, and writing here.

This year's Fedcup became one of the memorable matches for me. I was really nervous on the opening day. My first Fedcup match in Japan! I almost had the matcha gainst Maleeva, I had many chances... but during the match I found something I need to do to improve my ranking. Akiko won the first match, and I lost 3-6 in the final. The first day was 1-1 tie.

On the second day, Akiko had a great start defeating Maleeva, and that brings Japan to 2-1. I was nervous, but I was just thinking of winning. then I won in straight sets! I was really happy in front of many fans.

It was really a win from everyone, coach, teammates, fans, and all staff. The doubles after was a good match, and we defeated Bulgaria, 4-1. Thank you for your great supports. I will keep up my good play!

I have been sooooo impressed with Aiko's consistency on tour since she got herself into the top 100. She's been playing very well lately and now she's in her first Grand Slam 3rd round!! She beat Dulko 6-1, 6-1! That's incredible, she hit a bunch of winners 4 aces and not very many UEs. Her ranking is projected to be at least 54 after the Aussie Open. Now she's up against Schnyder who she battled hard against in Cincy last year. I think she's got a great shot in the form she is in right now and the heat (Which is supposed to be a huuuuuge factor this weekend) should help her because Schnyder has historically struggled in the heat! GO AIKO!!!!! You can do it!!

Oh yeah, AND SHE'S THE ONLY ASIAN IN THE THIRD ROUND! Great job!

Nakamura Stands Strong
by Paul Gough
Thursday, 19 January, 2006

Japanese player Aiko Nakamura has reached the third round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time with a devastating demolition of No.31 seed Gisela Dulko on Day Four of the Australian Open 2006.

Nakamura became the only Asian player to reach the round of 32 at this tournament as she produced one of the early shocks in thrashing Dulko in only 52 minutes.

The 22-year-old from Osaka, who only made her Grand Slam debut last year, was dominant on serve rifling down four aces as she won 73 percent of points on her first serve.

And when the opportunities came to break Dulko, she was equally lethal converting six of her eight break-point chances.

The victory continues a promising start to Nakamura's career after last year she managed to reach the second round at the Australian, US and Wimbledon on debut, only bowing out in the first round at the French Open.

Afterwards Nakamura said she was thrilled to go past the second round of a major for the first time in a victory which is sure to generate great excitement in Japan.

"I can't believe it," he said. "This (to reach the third round of a Grand Slam) has been one of my goals."

Nakamura described her performance against Dulko as perfect and said she was thrilled to be representing Asia in the third round.

Unfortunately Nakamura's countrywoman Shinobu Asagoe could not ensure an all Japanese third-round clash when she went down to Swiss No.7 seed Patty Schnyder 6-1 7-6 (11/9) with Schnyder to now face Nakamura for a place in the fourth round.

I had the first match at the French Open today against Columbia's Castano. She's good at playing on clay. I got the first set...and I had a few chances on the second...but couldn't get it. I thought this year would be my first time to win here (she hasn't won any matches here from junior time too). I feel like I played much better than the last year... and I realized what I should do for the next year too. I'll just practice more and will challenge next year. I still have a doubles to play. I'll do my best there!

Last night, there was a reception of Adidas Cup. The winners of Adidas Cup held in Japan could come to Paris and play. I was invited for this party. I had good meal and had a talk-show with Kimiko Date. I enjoyed the time there.
