i heard lena got injured in tokyo.everytime she has a decent run she gets a setback.i'm really tired of it,for me and for her.guys i'm not that good on the wta ranking system but shouldn't lena be higher than7.she was in 2 finals last year[only woman to do that].what do you think we should do to help her.i think we should sent letters to her even at smaller tournies to build her confidence.i am such a big fan.i want her to be no.1.but i get so frustrated  .eg.beats good player then loses to a nobody.she must fullfill her potential or tournies will pass her by.why u think she loses to crap and is behind lindsay etc.if she played like in rg and us she could be no.1.i just don't understand why she is not at least top 3 and loses to bad players

Well its all about consistancy and thats something the Russians sometimes have probs with ,just look at Nastya also!!
Lena has shown more consistancy so far in 2005 and I am not gonna count the loss to Asagoe as "losing to a crap player" Lena had an injury which prevented her from playing how she would like ,in hindsight she should have defaulted once she was injured, but lena does not know how to give up!!
Asagoe is also a damn good player on this surface in Tokyo ,Masha had probs in 2nd set also so u cant underestimate her!
Lena's ranking was as high as 4 last year and i am confident it will rise again ,her injury is a minor hiccup and i dont see any reason for panic ALL players get injuries ,Molik has just had to withdraw from paris with an injury too!
2004 started badly for Lena ,2005 is much better and can only improve ,but Lena is Lena and i am afraid she will still have the odd silly loss but much less of them!!

Ronaldo, i understand you are getting frustrated and wanna see Lena on no.1 we all do here aboard, as Capt said any top player can lose to a nobody.... Even Davey and S Williams ;), just try to be patient and positive with Lena, i know it can be frustrated at times (also i get frustrated sometimes) but just think in a positive way, when Lena loses (that my way to get over a loss of Lena so quickly as possible) She still has some years ahead in which she can and will be no.1 and will win a GS :) :D

Don't be afraid that she won't fullfill her potential, i see some big things happen in the upcoming years, it's never too late for Lena!!!!

I don't think she has a slump in her confidence, i've seen since i am a Lena D fan (since 1997/1998 when Lena was still Junior and becoming pro, i was 15 at that time) that Lena has build herself to a very great tennisplayer, who we all love.., I think her confidence only increases with the running season..., and i think that a loss makes Lena even more hungry for winning, and do better in her next tournament i don't think if she loses she will be sad about the loss, i think she has a incredible positive spirit which tells her to play even better!!!

I think her lack of consistency all comes down to her serve. Sometimes her serve just falls to bits, and as well as losing service games, it drains her confidence. It's such a liability, that it can keep anyone, no matter how bad a player, in the match.

A top player with a big serve will always beat lesser opponents easier than a top player without a big serve. Simple as that.

Her serve falters when she becomes a bit nervous. It could be a psychological thing she needs to get over. So far I'm not too concerned I reckon she can maintain her position up there at the top. Reaching no.1 will require alot of hard work.

prizeidiot is spot on.i totally agree the serve will build a lesser players confidence against lena.they say''she broke me but i can brake back''.against serena or davey they won't be as hopeful of breaking back.i don't question her confidence.i think she is very confident and now more than ever.instead of hoping to do well she now knows she is capable

What can I say more?

If her serve was more accurate, she'd be the #1 player. She has everything else. And she's such a smart player, that's what keeps her with the rest of the top 10.

yeah she is smart and a great forehand.but imo she is the most talented of all players.her serve gets no free points and she loses a lot of points on peoples returns but still pushing to be no1.

Elenka to give up ? She is just like General Tsuikov at Stalingrad: fight up to the last bullett and die.
Is she injuried ? : well, if only the left arm and the right leg are in "plaster of Paris", she would play, pointing out to be nearly well, healthy and fit !?
Perhaps we will see her after an injury of both legs to finish the play in a easy-chair.
But, anyway, Elenka is phenomenal and a "unicum".
