I dont know what happened!!! Somebody or something has taken over my internet explorer. I reset the setting but it keeps on going to about:blank as my home web page. It wont let me access anything. "A popups says windows has detected spy software sspMydoom.cih ver 2.018 Somebody is trying to access through port 245. Your private information is in danger." You can tell that it is a fake popup and when I click on yes, it takes me to this onemoresearch.net spyware thingy. What do I do??? It even has its own fake internet options. Everytime I type in a website it does nothing. I am totally freaking out!!!!

download spybot, unplug yourself from the internet and run it. then run a virus scan

Feb 4th, 2005, 05:45 AM
Do you know anything about this particular virus or whaterver it is. Im scared to log off and back on because im not on my primary user name and I dont know if I can get back on here.

jbone_0307
Feb 4th, 2005, 05:46 AM
Thank you, I already have spybot, maybe it needs to be updated so Im downloading it again.

bw2082
Feb 4th, 2005, 05:48 AM
it sounds more like your browser has been hijacked by spyware instead of a virus... if you don't have a virus scanner installed you can get a free scan from symantec's webpage

about:blank :
OMGoodness, I had that problem too just a few days ago!!!!!!!!!1

Its Muthafuking spyware and who ever the sick fuking **** who made it is they should be shot!!
Do Spybot, and all these things will come up including one called "Common highjacker" then blast it. I think thats what I done but im not sure..I remember going into the C drive myself and into windows and programe files and going ferral on a rampage deleting anything abnormal looking in my fit of rage when I was a hostage of useless net freaks trying to sell retarded products no one wants.

I dont remember how I got it, I think i went into a cheap looking website and got barraged by pop ups then it fucked itself over.

In the mean time to get onto net explorer, DONT click the IE button see if you can open a window thru msn messanger (i.e. Go to inbox) and then surf from there, i think its cause it takes over homepage.
Then go to mozilla.com and install that if you want I dont think it works on that.

I know too well your anguish on this one!

And if worse comes to worse and you cant fix it, go to system restore and restore to the last date without this crapola.
It is fixable dont worry..

jbone_0307
Feb 4th, 2005, 06:07 AM
Ok, So download spybot, already went in C: drive and deleted abnormal things (alot of times I delete crucial things), what do you mean by blast it (delete)??? Where is system restore??? Thank you alot.

Oleh
Feb 4th, 2005, 06:17 AM
OK,
Spybot when you have it search for all problems, then click "fix problems" or whatever and it shoud delete them for you.
In C: drive delete only things like say "One time search assistant" or "IE Hotbar"..things that sound tacky, cheap and aint microsoftish. Usualy it wont let you delete any really important things and if you do you can always system restore it..its like time travel.

System restore...right, Start=Control Panel=Performance and Maintenence=System Restore (Top left corner) then follow its instructions, choose a date maybe a week ago if all was well then and you havnt installed any new programes. (I find after system restoremI have to re-install some non standard programes like Mesenger version 6 and Kazaa but most seem fine).

Blast it means delete, kill what ever just get rid of.

Trt to avoid System restore unless spybot and c drive dont work just to avoid needing to reinstall a few programes. (Real player also is one you need to reinstall, the files are still on your comp u just need to re instal them / set up them)

jbone_0307
Feb 4th, 2005, 06:25 AM
I dont think I have system restore. Right click, start, control panel. Do you know the name of the spyware so I can make sure to delete it.

jbone_0307
Feb 4th, 2005, 06:28 AM
Its still not working after I did the spybot search. Ugh im sooo irritated.

bw2082
Feb 4th, 2005, 06:30 AM
system restore is under start/all programs/ accessories/system tools

Oleh
Feb 4th, 2005, 06:31 AM
I cant remember name really exept "Onemore search" and "Search assistant" I think sound familiar or something. Its not just one item there are lots..anything that sounds suss get rid of.
On spybot you can see what each type of spyware each object is.."Hijacker" and "redirect" are the most important to get rid of..cookies can be disposed of later.

If you have windows XP (I dont know 98 muyself) you will have system restore its in Performance and Maintanence in the control panel. Its under "See also" at the top left hand corner, not the main menu of performance and maintenence.

jbone_0307
Feb 4th, 2005, 06:46 AM
It still isn't working. What else can I do??? I have to get some sleep. Im soo tired of this shit. I used spybot and it didn't work. I guess I will search for it or something.

jbone_0307
Feb 4th, 2005, 06:50 AM
What do I do in system restoration or whatever. I think Im about to cry.

Oleh
Feb 4th, 2005, 06:52 AM
Ok i am not sure of what else you can do, I'm sure i used all of the above but by coincidence.
If you have IE on disk uninstall it and then reinstall it. In the mean time you shoudl still be able to surf the net just make sure you type the FULL address of the web page not say wtaworld.com as I found it just redirects you.
Also if you could try restarting your modem id its adsl..but im not sure if thats to do with the programe i just know I have to do it to mine sometimes when pages wont display properly.

Go to sleep (..I was up to 3am trying to fix mine and it so wasnt worth it:o) and try in the morning. I would think to look in the Programe files and Windows files and manually hunt it out. Unless someone else knows exactly how to go staright to fixing it..

jbone_0307
Feb 4th, 2005, 06:54 AM
Thank you, so do you think it will be curable??

Oleh
Feb 4th, 2005, 06:54 AM
In system restore go "restore computer to previous date"..the ull see a celender choose a day before today or when the problem started. The click it and go next or what ever. It will restart your computer and do it all automaticaly.

I thought you did this, so if not this should fix it.

Just choose a date (for example, 3 days ago) when you still didn't have this problem. It worked for me, I had the same problem a few weeks ago.

Feb 4th, 2005, 09:33 AM
I had this problem and since my computer was running so slowly, I dediced I had to re-format my hard drive. But my computer didnt come with the windows xp disk  So then I had to have a copy of windows xp pro sent to me, that worked and I sent the disk back to him. After a couple of weeks, i uninstalled the windows updates I had installed because my computer was running REALLY slowly, and when I re-started it, I couldn't access any files and was offline was a couple of days. Luckily someone fixed the problem and gave me a windows CD in case any other things like this happen.

But basically, make sure you have spybot search and destroy, ad aware (very good) and a firewall on. If you have DSL, try not to leave it on all the time, and turn it off when you're not using it as it makes your PC more vunerable to hackers. Run virus scans and the above programs frequently and you should be fine.

Oh, and keep off dodgy porno sites ;)

Feb 4th, 2005, 03:29 PM
jbone, try running Spybot again, but first restart your computer in safe mode. Safe mode keeps the malware from starting with your computer, which can make it impossible to delete. If it comes up with lots of malware, you might also try deleting them one at a time, rebooting each time. It may save you having to do something drastic like reformat (unless you decide reformatting is less of a pain, of course)

Dang, I thought it worked at first. I went in safe mode and nothing popped up, but I still did the system scan. Where and what is the windows folder??? Im asking because im trying to follow the instructions on the websites. I seem to have found a website http://www.akadia.com/services/about_blank_virus.html . I cant access C:\Windows\System32\"Visible".dll though??? Im running WinNT/2000, so I dont know why??

jbone_0307

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!! Its gone. All I did was download Adware Away. Theres still something fishy about it. When I logged in under another user name, it popped up, but under this name, its not doing it. Im sooo happy :) Thank you everybody.

Ok, one more thing. I think that there is another hijacker or worm that is messing with IE. I cant log on to my hotmail. Instead, a popup comes up "Security Alert." Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. Hoeever, there is a problem with tthe site's security certificate. Then it goes on to say the security certificate was issued by a company not chosen to trust. When I click on Issuer Statement it takes me to takes me to Verisign.com and talks about a relying part agreement??? Also on IE on the bottom right there seems to be some fake looking icons like trusted sites (with a fake check) and my computer (with a phony looking icon). Ive seen the trusted sites and my computer icons, but the ones now look really suspicious.

since this is a thread about computer problems..

My computer won't shut down and I have a feeling it's because of a virus that just won't go away. Can anyone help? Any suggestions as to what I can do would be greatly appreciated :)

Suggest you all try CWShredder......it sorts loads of things

www.download.com (http://www.download.com)

I'd get that, ad-aware, spybot & Crap Cleaner

Youll never guess what has just rared its ugly hear...none other than the onemoresearch whore and all of its bastardized baggage.

Perhaps I didnt remove it completely and somethign triggered it?? Oh well going on rampage thru computer now.

I installed something called spy webrooter is that any good?? Its taken out most things but at the same tiome not one more search and now a new little task bar thing has installed itself.

I want who ever made this stuff (Most of it actually advertising anti spyware products! ) to die horrible and painfyl deaths or get a real job.

 Ok I think our computeres are going through the same thing!!!
I had/ have that too after getting rid of it..I can only get to hotmail thru outlook express as if i use IE it simply never loads and remains blank. Some sites come up with the fake looking trusted sites but i think thats real as if you look in net options and security you see the symbol. Im not sure.
I think got infected from some

I however have some stupid icons that wont go away no matter how many times i delete and the recycle bin wont empty either. The icons are called "Virus hunter security" (You mean we will pretend your infected so you pay us?) "Spyware avenger" (AHAHHAAHHA is this some kind of joke????? THEY put it there and wont let it go away without my permision!) "Your platinum visa" (Haha I wish) "Evidence eraser" (wheres the crime?) and "PopUp Blocker stops pop ups" (Bullshit it does, it keeps em coming nice and steady until you buy their C rate products...hmmm Ransom perhaps?) Do you have this too???? Also I get these anoying popups in IE called pay popup...it fucks everthing slow and its doing it now..it knows im talking about it!!

I ran Spysweeper but im not sure if its removed everything..Adaware I try but it crashes..Its working so so now. And i thought i was free of it!

Also how can I mkake less things start unasked when the comp starts up, its taking forever to open all these programs I dont want opened! (I d/l'ed some security products but only want them on demand..too slow otehrwise"?????

OMG that the exact same thing!!!

jbone_0307
Feb 7th, 2005, 12:33 AM
Except, I dont have any of those Evidence Eraser, or any problems like that. On IE, on the bottom left, it has this really fake looking computer and it says my computer, and I know its fake because Ive never seen that before.

EXACTLY THE SAME HERE..only not the Sex things...on second look...There is a picture of a whore on an Icon saying sex!!! lmao!...Okay...maybe this is like a syncronised attack!!..My bin wont empty either...The credit card icon and fgake spyware icons they are what I have and wont go away.

I have as Bloc Party and a friend of mine advised come to one last solution. Start saving all your files and re-install window...wipe everything. Ummm go to the thread about spyware it mentions some more about this.

The mysearchnow worm attacked my computer recently too...turns out I'd downloaded it with messenger  Try using hijackthis (http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip). It's worked for me before but it didn't this time...I even rebooted in safe mode, ran adaware pro, spybot, hijackthis, manually changed registry entries and the friggin worm still spawned everytime I ran Internet Explorer  I've done all these things multiple times and I still get this fake process calling itself IEXPLORE.EXE popping up stealing my memory :( I've been looking all over the net lately and apparently the only way to get rid of it definitively is to reformat :fiery:

Oleh
Feb 9th, 2005, 10:15 PM
Oh for fuck sake!!!!
fROM MESSENGER!!!!!!...Is this some kind of Microshit bullshit????? The worst thing is you dont get a choice about running messenger!!! It forces it to run!!..it makes sense it comes from messenger as it happend on the day I d/l messenger beta...

alexusjonesfan
Feb 9th, 2005, 10:43 PM
well one thing you can do is go to Start-->Run-->type in 'msconfig' in the box and go to the tab for startup and check 'disable all'. That'll stop messenger from loading when windows boots up but I think the search worm spawns everytime I load messenger :o Whatever...I'm not ready for reformatting, I've removed as much of IE from my system as I can and I've blocked anything calling itself iexplore from accessing the internet. It's a short term solution anyway

Oleh
Feb 9th, 2005, 11:03 PM
Is that how I block things from accessing IE?? I want to doom that creature for the time being:p

alexusjonesfan
Feb 9th, 2005, 11:09 PM
well the msconfig is just so the spamware doesn't load automatically when windows reboots. Do you have a firewall program installed? I just went into ZoneAlarm and removed access for IE. These coolwebsearch people are unbelievable

www.firefox.com and www.opera.com Just abandon IE, use Netscape if you have to even :o

jbone_0307
Feb 10th, 2005, 02:31 AM
Ok, its gone now. But now that I dont use IE, does that mean it will go away??? Is firefox similar to IE in terms of how you use it, etc, and do you think I should take it to the computer repair person for about $50??? I really dont want to reinstall windows because this was a gift and I dont have the Windows nor Microsoft CD.

jbone_0307
Feb 10th, 2005, 02:32 AM
Its like there are outbreaks of it and it will just pop up. Why would somebody do this?? They must get joy out of peoples pain anf frustration.

alexusjonesfan
Feb 10th, 2005, 02:36 AM
nope, not using IE just means you won't have to deal with it...though it seems to respawn everytime messenger is launched :o
There's no learning curve in using Firefox or Opera, everything's pretty much the same, plus they're faster and sans the security holes  I'm not sure whether it's worth spending 50 bucks on, they'll probably just tell you to reformat the drive anyway. If you need a windows cd, just go to a bittorrent site and d/l and burn yourself a version :p

jbone_0307

it's a hijacker by the same people who brought you coolwebsearch. They make money from your computer resources. :)

Oh, I hope, I hope this works. I did a system scan, went in manually and deleted most of the files (2) left in the regedit. I hope this works because other people use this computer and I dont want them to think that im doing something bad.

jbone_0307

Ive narrowed it down to the Best Search Engine because in regedit, I keep on deleting it and it comes right back.

Oleh

Jbonw Im going through the same as you.
One will never get rid of this hell devil. Its like the Mummy and the curse of humunaptra..it just dosnt die. So start saving all your files, get your windows disk and reinstall it...im scared to do this but I gotta and my cd writer has been hijacked too or something so must leave some of my precious file babies to die with the curse:( ...im tempted to take it to repain shop but dont wana spend all that cash on something that can be done easier. I share your pain...heh heh if you wana get some satisfaction...first install firefox, thats what im using now IE is screwed beyond help. Then go your uninstall programmes thing and for the Mysearch thing or soemthing as equally craptacular, it says you must give feedback to go to the next step (But it asks your email which unless you want to be spammed...dont give a real one or better still give "fuckyou@fuckyou.com"..or someone you dont like;):p and cut and paste and send the same message over and over saying how screwed these apes are who do this. Ive sent many and it is a small constelation:D

Viggen, after reinstalling windows or whatever, is your computer now scotch free?

jbone_0307
Feb 10th, 2005, 10:21 PM
Im taking it to the computer repair shop, but I dont want to make it seem like I had been looking at bad websites or something. He only charges $50 the last time, a better alternative than deleting the whole system, I think.

jbone_0307
Feb 10th, 2005, 10:22 PM
I think I deleted some files that I wasn't supposed to, because this windows installer comes up everytime I do something, but the program still operates, the thig just pops up.

Oleh
Feb 10th, 2005, 10:30 PM
...hmm...umm well for short term relief press ctrl+alt+delete and a screen will pop up saying windows task manager..click on the processes tab and end processes like "dddd" or "126426" or what ever it is and it gives some relief for the time being but be careful of what ones you end.

alexusjonesfan
Feb 10th, 2005, 10:32 PM
whatever, scratch everything I said before...the process keeps popping up on its own even if I don't launch IE or messenger...maybe it is reformat time after all

Oleh
Feb 10th, 2005, 10:32 PM
Okay./....now thats creepy Ive just looked at my desktop and it seems they bred a new background there...saying "Warning you computer is in danger" and wherever you click on the background it takes you to its cheap ass flea market of harmful good...this is creeping me out.

jbone_0307
Feb 10th, 2005, 11:18 PM
Well, its messing with my desktop background now. A flea market??? Actually, now, its not tampering with the internet and I cant find the file that it was under. Also, the whore with the sex icon is gone. Its even messing with MS Dos, when you go to run and type in command, it will make this fake website command and tell you that it has made an error and abort???

jbone_0307
Feb 10th, 2005, 11:19 PM
It is pretty stable, but Im scared to go in and touch anything because it may mess it up.

Oleh
Feb 10th, 2005, 11:38 PM
Omgoodness, Im really thinking this is syncronizd or something as it seems to be happeining almost simultaneously with ours!
Well, on mine the whore is still there and now theres another one called !Protect your data..I think your having better luck than I am atm, but im going to reinstall windows once i have saved enough of my file babies!

Whore can wait until tommorow and ill throw her back into the gutter she came from:)

jbone_0307
Feb 11th, 2005, 12:19 AM
LOL. That the same thing as mine. Instead of the whore, its shows this little red and black circle and say Protect yourself! Its not really affecting my internet, but it came back, but instead of taking my intenet pages, it made those fake dos icons, with a fucking website on it. Do they think that I am stupid??

jbone_0307
Feb 11th, 2005, 12:49 AM
It came back on you too vigen. Its messed up my background for my desktop. Its just completely white. The icons are still there, but I cant drag or select more than one.

jbone_0307
Feb 11th, 2005, 04:47 AM
Any updates on your computer??

alexusjonesfan
Feb 11th, 2005, 05:01 AM
umm...mine's under control in that it only hogs my memory...like that's a good thing...it hasn't fucked with my settings yet *fingers crossed* I'm not using IE for the life of me and downloading no freeware...tho now it turns out Firefox and Opera are susceptible to phishing/spoofing and god knows what other security holes microsoft still hasn't found after sp2. Sheesh, the internet is getting more and more of a nuisance. Instead of trading up to longhorn, I might just move to a mac, malware-mongers don't seem to care about that small a chunk of the market.

Oleh
Feb 11th, 2005, 05:16 AM
*sigh* its not geting any better. I am pissed because i cant find the time to really get into it and install windows again. I think I may just give this computer to my pal and tell him to "go fix"...

But I am sure the Whore is watching me in more ways than one, everytime I type somthing derogatory about that ho and her sin-children she slaps me again with a fake brand handbag and cheap purfume of more crack-whore issues. All I can do is supress them when im using the comp by managing windows task manager.

OK,
I find after system restoremI have to re-install some non standard programes like Mesenger version 6 and Kazaa but most seem fine).

ha, that's part of your problem, get rid of kazaa, it's the main source of spyware, every time you install kazaa will cloud your computer with shit, even if you have kazaa lite (no spyware) it will try to download the full version with the spyware shit.

Fingon
Feb 13th, 2005, 09:02 AM
I am sorry but at this point it doesn't seem there is much you can do except reformat the harddrive.

There are some nasty spyware down there that won't go away, it's complicated but basically it loads with a dll that is called by absolutely everything in the system.

Deleting files does not work, the virus rebuilds itself, it has the logic built in.

I don't know if we are talking about the same thing but it sounds like.

System restore may fix it, but it only became available in Windows 2000 or ME, if you are running 98 or NT you are toasted.

Just a few tips to prevent this from happening again:

1) Keep Windows up to date, if you are running XP make sure you get SP2, if not consider upgrading to XP.
2) Install a commercial version of antivirus software, McAfee, Symantec, Panda, whatever, but do it, DO NOT BROWSE THE INTERNET WITHOUT IT. Don't get free trials, or freeware, pay for a full version.
3) Do not download removal tools unless you trust them, Spybot or adaware are ok, but don't download stuff you find in google.
4) Block the sites that are popping up in your firewall.
5) DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT USE KAZAA, it's bullshit and a source of spyware. Spybot will tell you that some programs may not work if you remove the spyware, fuck it, if a software requires spyware to work do not use it. It's not only kazaa but also some other "free" stuff. Remember, nothing is free.
6) if you wish use another browser, but don't think you are save, Firefox probably has more security holes than IE, only that the hackers haven't bothered with it, but that might change.

For your information, there are more security holes reported on Linux than on Windows.

7) Keep Windows, Messenger, Office, Outlook Express and whatever soft you use up to date, you can turn on automatic updates if you are running XP, do not miss any update. For office you might use the Office update page in Microsoft.com.
8) do not install bullshit like screensavers, fancy cursors, search companions, or toolbars (except the known ones such as Yahoo, Google or MSN but get them from their sites).
9) don't think that because a software is in Download.com or similar it's safe.

I know, it's a pain, but this is the internet for you, you either take precautions or you get this kind of bullshit, life sucks.

Then follow my advices to not get this one again.

Believe me, if this virus/spyware/trojan whatever is what I think it is you won't get rid of it, it infected one machine in my company and they had to reimage it, despite having specialists and service with Symantec.

How do you reformat and also what do I save my files and programs to?

about how to reformat, you need the win xp cd, I don't know how old your computer is but you have to find out if you can boot from the cd.

When the installation program starts it gives you a chance to format the drive, otherwise you can type format c:\.

You need to back up your files first, I don't know how much space they are taking, if you have a cd burner you can burn them to one or more cds (each cd is about 600 mb), a dvd burner is about 4.5 gb.

If you don't know how to install the os, it's probably better if you take it to someone who does, they can take care of backing up your file first.

Fingon, did the computer which got infected at your company run XP Professional or XP Home? I'm asking because my old computer had a pirated version of XP Professional installed and wasn't able to fully upgrade to SP1 or SP2 b/c the license key was bogus but it never got infected with any malware/spyware. No blasterworm, which I think took advantage of the JVM which apparently isn't integrated in XP Pro, no coolwebsearch and none of the other nuisances that've popped up for windows users since 01. But my new comp. has XP Home SP2 and runs all the same security apps as the last comp (viruscan/firewall/adaware/spybot) but has been infected a bunch of times with garbage. I'm wondering if I can avoid all this in the future if I just reformat and install XP Pro

XP pro, you can't use XP home in business, and licensed.

About getting the virus, well, I don't know how you got it, some times it's a website, an email, a program you install, and even surfing the net.

With sp2 is a lot more difficult for that to happen, as long as you don't disable the security features (RPC, firewall, etc.).

hard to tell, but following what I said before you should be ok.

You can't get rid of explorer.exe, I am even surprised it could do that, it's an essential part of the OS.

Your system is severely fucked up at the moment. Follow my advise, don't download stuff to clean up if you don't know what you are doing, only download stuff from trusted sources, if a program deletes explorer.exe it's either a malware or was written by an idiot.

let me explain it with an example.

It's like you have a problem with your car and you take the engine out to solve it. Explorer.exe is part of the operarting system, without it you have nothing, virus or not virus.

Ok, I just now thought. I have a couple of options. I have 2 other computers. One is operating WinXP, but I dont have the XP cd because it was also given as a gift. The other computer has Win98 and I have the Win98 CD. Should I downgrade and go back to Win98 on this computer (wich uses WinNT) or just wait and save the information and get XP?

Well its pretty solved  as explorer.exe is gone. Im operating my computer by Ctrl-Alt-Del. Can a jump drive be used?? There really isn't that much that is important, but some Microsoft Word, RCT2 files, NL tracks and program, and some more minor things. I dont have a CD burner. Is there anyway that I can possibly get WINXP from a computer that is operating it??

Its not a matter of if I need to format, but when.

Martian Willow
Feb 21st, 2005, 02:03 AM
You don't need the actual XP CD that came with the computer. Any CD will do, as long as you have the little sticker with the activation code on your computer, or there are little utility programs around that will find the code from inside Windows (there's no default way of finding the code in Windows - typical MS  ).

Reinstalling XP is a piece of piss as long as you think about what you're doing. You should have your computer set up to boot from a removable drive - ie the CD - anyway in case the HD dies. The file system is NTFS. That's all you need to know. :)

jbone_0307
Feb 21st, 2005, 02:15 AM
I dont operate XP, Im on Windows NT. So on the computer that is operating XP, where would the activation code be found and how would I transfer it XP, ( I dont have a CD burner) to the other computer. Im soo lost.

Sorry, I wasn't paying attention, I just read the last few posts on the last page and assumed you were on XP. :o

If it's 2000 there shouldn't be any problem, you just have to get hold of a CD. :)

uhh...if you don't have a CD burner, ask one of your friends who does have a cd burner to burn you a version of NT or XP which you can use to reformat/reinstall. Which system is the one that has the virus? the XP one or the NT one?

jbone_0307
Feb 21st, 2005, 02:41 AM
they are on different computers, but the NT one has the virus.

Fingon
Feb 21st, 2005, 06:08 AM
they are on different computers, but the NT one has the virus.

no surprising that you have problems, Microsoft's support for NT is limited to say the least, get rid of it quickly.

You won't have an activation code if you are running NT, not even 2000, that came with XP.

If you get a hold of a CD, it has to be either a cracked one or a corporate one (Microsoft gives CDs that don't require activation to big corporate clients), otherwise it will not work (or better said will stop working after 30 days).

If you can't get one or the other, then your only choice is to buy XP home (about $150) which should be enough, I don't think you need XP pro.
