I just saw Agnes play for the first time and was most impressed with her game. Her backhand is a top level shot. Forehand not too bad either though it seems to be inconsistent. And she had more variety than I was expecting with some great dropshots and decent netplay.

I look forward to her progress in the future. I hope she can make some noise at the Open and the rest of the week here.

Agnes plays a qualifier in first round of US Open. If she wins that it either Krajicek or Alberta Brianti. Third round would likely be Petrova.

If Agnes can play like she did against Daniela today she could definitely make the 3rd round and trouble Petrova.

The accent is on the first syllable. In the hungarian language the accent usually is on the first syllable. (or always?:))
Agnesh Savay. (not Seevay, you just have to pronounce the sz letter like the s letter in the word "see". This is what Mandula tried to explain.

Once again, when I am not here, Agi is playing the best tennis of her carrier ! What a wonderful week for her, it's such a shame that it ended on this heartbreaking note ... Poor Agi :hug:. Hello! Actually I don't have any new information (just what I wrote in my #611 message). If I know something, I will post it.

Agnes must be okay for singles if she is chosing to play doubles. I would think she would only play singles otherwise.

I think Agnes will play singles,if she won`t play,her name won`t be doubles draw

AGNES SZAVAY: Yes, I did.

Q. Have they had an impact on your tennis life?

AGNES SZAVAY: I mean, when I was younger I was all the time just watching them how they play. They are like stars and I want to be the same tennis player as they. Yeah, I tried my best.

AGNES SZAVAY: Well, I'm really happy and I try to keep going and try to concentrate on my game.

Q. Is this the best win you've had so far in your tennis career?
AGNES SZAVAY: Yeah, uh huh.

Q. What's been the sort of change for you in the last few weeks or months that's allowed you to have the confidence to beat players like Petrova?
AGNES SZAVAY: Well, I improved a lot in the last one year. I just try to focus on my game and I guess I play better now.

Q. Where are you training?
AGNES SZAVAY: At home, in Budapest.

Q. In Hungary?
AGNES SZAVAY: Yeah.

Q. Have found that it was easy or difficult to make the transition from junior tennis to professional tennis?
AGNES SZAVAY: I think it's a big different in the head, and of course they are much better. It's a good experience to play juniors, to be with the top players at the Grand Slams. It's a good life also, but it's big different I guess.

Q. Quite clearly now you look very confident on the court. How long did it take you after you turned professional to get confidence playing the faster game, the professional game?
AGNES SZAVAY: If somebody plays good juniors, then that player has enough confident to start the WTA tour. When I just stop playing juniors or I was even player juniors still, I was already 150 on the WTA rank.
But then I had mononucleosis, so that was half year or year in my career. But since that I'm coming up and playing better and better.

Q. Who are you being coached by now?
AGNES SZAVAY: Two coaches Zoltan Kuharszsky who is here with me, and Jozsef Bocskay and he is also travel with me sometimes.

Q. You been working with them for how long?
AGNES SZAVAY: With Zoltan for one year, and with Jozsef for three years or even more.

Q. The injury, is it okay now or are you still getting therapy for the injury?
AGNES SZAVAY: I'm still getting therapy for it, but it's much better.

Q. Today for example
AGNES SZAVAY: I didn't feel it.

Q. No problem at all?
AGNES SZAVAY: No. Maybe if I would play more then I would feel it. Not yet.

Q. Which players or player did you admire growing up?
AGNES SZAVAY: I really liked Graf and Agassi, but now of course Roger. He's playing unbelievable.

Come on today against Vakulenko.... I can make it! I :hearts: U!

Agi is into the QFS :bounce: :woohoo:

She won 6-4, 7-6(7-1). Vakulenko was up a break at 4-3 in the second set and also served for the set at 5-4. She had 30-0 in both games as well but Agi fought back for the breaks. Agi saved 3 break points serving at 5-5 before holding. Won 7 straight points in tiebreak.

A good result for sure but I hope that match didn't take a toll on her body. Tomorrow is much more important.

Agi has fallen 6-1, 6-4 to Kuznetsova. I didn't get to watch the match because I was at class. I think having played Sveta in New Haven was a disadvantage for Agi. It took away the element of surprise and Sveta knew what to expect. Still an amazing tournament for Agi

Sveta played very well, and Agnes haven't many chances. Szavay made many mistakes, and i think she's a little bit tired. Anyway quarterfinal of Us open is a great result for 18-year old girl. Good luck to Agnes in 1/2 doubles! ;)

Amazing 3 weeks for Ági. Hope tomorrow Ági & Vladka will get into the final.

The only disappointing thing was that she missed a lot of points when she played well in a rally and was about to finish and win the point. And her first serve was quite bad.

She had the chance to break back in both sets tough.

Let's hope for a surprise doubles final now!
