if you look at her surprise loss in the rd of 16 as an improvement on her result there last year, then the whole tournament was something to be happy about. if you were looking for her to get her first slam win then obviously her loss is disapointing.

im wondering who most of her fans are supporting now that she is out. and im also currious about the outlook for this year from her fans point of view. elena will have her day in the sun, she is too talented not to, but first she has got to improve on her consistency.

well good luck to her and all her fans

I guess it's an improvement, but you can never be happy about a loss. I personally, don't care too much about the women's draw now that Elena's out. I'd like Dechy to win, because she's nice, and I dislike almost every other player left in the draw.

Yeah it's improvement (the best result in Australian Open - it was in 2002 also), but you can't be happy about a loss. It's a bit frustrating when Lena was leading 7-6 4-0 and lost match. I think that Lena was to tired (maybe there was too hot for her, and we have to remember that Lena wasn't sure if she play Australian Open).

I also don't care about the women's draw naw. I'd like Mauresmo or Dechy to win, because I dislike other players in the draw.

We can wait for next tournament - Toray Pan Pacific in Tokio - Lena is seed 4. I hope that there will be better. :)

Surely this is an improvement.... I was quite worried when Elena was winning 7-6 4-0 but being catched up by Patty.

Consistency and serve do matters. It is no doubt that she should improve and work hard...no...harder on these areas; otherwise, it's a really hard way for her to win titles, esp. the Grand Slam ones... (even though she deserves to win Grand Slams I believe)

I don't care about the women's draw now (with Elena out). But I'd like Mauresmo to win since she's tough...(and she's kind of a "TV-tutor / demonstrator" to me - I changed from playing with two-handed backhand to one-handed by watching her and Justine's play); at the same time, I dislike other players in the draw.

Hmmm...I was really disappointed, I'd hoped she would have reached the finals but it just wasn't her day. My friend taunts me alot for liking Elena and he calls her a choker. Just then Alicia Molik beat Venus Williams, so I will be going for her. She is also a one handed backhander but its not very good.

Firstly everyone is dissapointed, i think. - she was 4-0 in second set- . But this was a good tournament for her. Listen, her best days are to come, so lets support lena til then. Now its time for lena to get up and keep fighting - thats why we love her- so, what's next?

I hate Maria, Svetlana, Lindsay, Mauresmo and Wlliams sisters, so i'm with Molik, who just won Venus.

The problem with Lena is that you could predict what is gonna happend- you could see it in her eyes that she is struggeling. if she want to stay in the highest ranking, belong to the top players and not go back to the 10's level when she stood in previous years, she'll have to be killer like finish games with power atittude. I guess that players like S. Williams, Davenport, Mauresmo and Sharapova wouldn't lose this kind of advantage (4-0 30- 0) because their rivals realize that their are superior and that they have no chance in that point of the game. in contrast, lena is a great fighter but psychologically she steel does'nt have this killer instinct that will scare other players (like schnyder).
here we back to the Serve issue- its not statistically crucial (sometimes it is...), but psychologically this weakness is very important to her image as killer player, not only from the rival point of view but mainly from lena point of view. when she serve the game she does'nt look comfortable and sometimes you feel that she would preffer that her rival will serve all the time.
What i'm saying that by improving her serve, she will be much stronger, not only statistically , but more important psychologically. her rival will understand that lena is in another league. for me, this is the most important lesson from this tournament- if she wants to stay or even go forward in the ranking this year.

Yeah, I guess I'll jump on the Dechy bandwagon. I think she's one of Lena's buds.

Anyone but Kuznetsova. Actually, if Nat takes out Kuz, I would count it as partial revenge for Lena, too.

This is one of those days I almost wish I was a Mashabator.

She won't ED, trust me, she never gets distracted by any (big) loss right??

Tennisjunky to go in on ur questions:

1) Now Lena is out of the AO i'm hoping on a final between Davenport ag. Momo, wasn't Myskina eliminated from the AO, i would be rooting for her.....

2) If Lena can build on her previous performances in GS and in tourneys, and plays with a new improved serve, i think she'll be a big fav. for the GS title of RG or USO IMO.
I just hope Lena can only win a few more titles this year, then the only title in Hasselt last year..... ;)

Amazing Elena

I also don't care about the womens draw, now Elena is out. I don't like the others.
Elena's loss was quite a shock for me. I didn't expect it because last week she had won of Schnyder.

My 2 favorite players at the men's tournament, Safin and Nalbandian, are still in the tournament. So I am focussing on that

im up for dechy.im really disappointed for lena but 4th round will get her decent points compared with last year.and a semi in previous tourny is good points.victory in hk gives me hope.a better serve say:5,6 aces a match and only 1,2 df's and she will be v hard to beat.how many wta victories and what stage of remaining gs's would it take for her to get to no.1 do u think

Haha I'm just really impressed how Molik has slogged it out over the last few months and really fixed up her game.
