Well she's into the quarters for the second following year :worship: :D
What do you rate her chances of going further now? I think we are seeing a hungrier, stronger & more positive player than we have for almost 6-7 years now  I am really hoping this Australian Open is better for Patty than last year :)

it's already better than last year, (assuming Patty beats Dechy and reaches the semi's again, which i am 99.99 percent sure she is going to do based on their past history). Last year Patty really slid through the draw without any big wins, but now, coming back from set and 0-4, 0-30 down in a grand slam against a Top 5 player is just unbelievable. This year Patty will be in for a better chance in the semi's as well, as neither Davenport nor Venus are what they used to be.

it's good news as well because it's meant to get really hot from wednesday. heat makes rebound ace bounce so much higher and should really play into patty's hands on both her forehand and serve. i'm not writing dechy off simply because i never want to assume patty is going to play well. i also can't see her losing though.

if it gets really hot and the balls are bouncing then patty really has a great chance against davenport or molik. she beat lindsay 3 and 2 on green clay and the surfaces really are playing quite similar this year.

people in GM think we're crazy but patty really does have a shot here. even if she doesn't win i think she has turned a corner and having already accumulated over 500 points for the year puts herself in a great position to have a great year with not that many points to defend now.

she looks different as well. in 04 she kind of seemed shocked to be in semis and it was pretty much thanks to a favourable draw - even though i maintain beat suarez was one of her best wins ever ;) . this year she really seems more determined if anything, and is talking so much about how great it is to be back in the latter part of a slam. she said she wanted a slam this year late last year and i think she knows she can win this.

Yeah,I think yr right switz. She seems so much more motivated & wanting this year. And I think she herself believes she has a pretty good shot at it too :)
I wonder what's happened to make her like this though? I know she's always liked playing in Oz & apart from the 99 Oz Open her record here is really good.Even on her debut here in 97,she beat Majoli 1st round & made it to the 4th round that year. So could be it be that she lifts her game here? Or is this the start of a "new meets the old" Patty that we will see for the coming year. I am hoping for the latter :)

And yup, I know she made the semis last year Vogus & lost to Clijsters but I meant go further as in making the finals & perhaps even lifting the Daphne Akhurst trophy aloft ;)

Molik or Davenport would both be beatable for Patty in the semi's. Like everybody says the surface is playing slower this year which is going to work in Patty's favor, especially against Davenport. Having said that, i'd rather see Patty draw Molik, bcuz the pressure and expectations on Molik playing her first ever GS semi, in Australia, would be huge and i think it would make Patty's job a lot easier to be the outsider.

For years, there have been only a few people on this board who really understand what Patty is capable of doing. But that could change drastically within a few days, if she wins the title.

we aren't crazy, we are just big Patty Schnyder's fan ;) :p
I hope and I think that Patty can go in the final, and maybe win this :D
last year the semi against Kim Clijsters was so hard, but this year, a final it's possible!!!
come on Patty !!! :bounce:

it's funny but that's part of the reason i stayed a fan. i kind of like being in the minority of people who saw what she still had. of course i want her to win but i don't want a whole bunch of morons supporting her.

i know it's sounds stupid but i like the little intelligentsia we have as patty fans. we are all different i think but all are united by patty's promise

;)the bandwagon hopping has been already picking up in the past year, that's for sure, part of that is, i think Patty's image has been becoming more and more like that of a typical tennis star, whereas in the past she was always something a bit different, a player who attracted a small group of highly specialized and highly devoted fans. There are people these days who i see cheering for Patty, that definitely cause me to raise an eyebrow or two. They're not people who know the details about her game or her nuances. But if a player is in the mainstream then they are going to attract mainstream fans, that's just natural.

i think the matches will be played indoors today, i know Patty says she likes the heat, but things can get unpredicable when you play in 38 degrees, so it's probly to her advantage to take that factor out of it.

It's already hot as hell here in Melbourne so I'd agree that the roof will most probably be on. Patty's match will be held on Margeraet Court Arena at 1PM so it will be even hotter by then!

And yeah,it's sort of nice to be in the minority of being a Patty fan,but as Vogus said it's natural now that shes playing better & without the controversy around her that she will attract new fans as well.
But I think we will also have a special feeling being fans that have supported her through the major up times & times when she was in the major dumps both professionally & personally as well ;)
There was a nice little article on her in Melbournes Herald Sun on her that I will try to scan as well...

i think it was what i was afraid of - the heat acted as an equalizer, and it brought Patty's level down to where Dechy could scrap evenly with her. It was 33 C in the shade today, which is awfully hot for a two and a half hour match. Thank goodness for the heat break but the third set was still nearly an hour, and that is just brutal. Credit to Nathalie for fighting the whole way, even after losing that tough first set.

I guess this was JR's revenge, he always loved Dechy, what was that dorky nickname he had for her? Cheers to you JR, wherever you are, man... :wavey:

i'll add as well that i was more impressed with Patty's performance at this year's AO than what she did last year, although she went a round further then.
