View Full Version : Why would YOU LIKE your favourite player to win the Oz Open

Dec 24th, 2001, 03:10 AM
I'd personally would like Lindsay to win the Australian Open because I think she deserves it. <br /> I think she's done so much to get to the position where she is, I see her as an inspiration to myself. It's been almost 2 years since she hasn't won a Grand Slam, and the two finals in Wimbledon and US Open in 2000 broke my heart <img src="graemlins/sad.gif" border="0" alt="[Sad]" /> . Since then, I've been wanting her to win a Slam, and last year she did not perform "so well" in this tournaments <br /> This way she can prrove she's a real Nº1 and feel more confident with herself<br /> <br /> Other two players I'd like to see winning it again would be Jennifer and Martina

I would like Venus or Serena to win here cause they are my favourites, and I wish that they take home a slam they so wish to win <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

I hope Monica can win it cause it is such a shame she was denied many slams cause of a certain tragedy. So I think she should be allowed this slam.

Mary Pierce I wish could win this too, simply because she is a great player, just a series of injuries that have kept her out of the game.

Iva Majoli, simply because a win here may kick start her career. I love her game, so I hope that a win may help her.

I would love to see Serena winning another GS, just to see her reaction, and this would help more and more her greatful carrer. She would get more mature, and maybe a better player that she is...<br />I reall expect her to win <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

I would be very happy <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

I want Kim to win because I want her to make the next big step in her career

I want Serena to win because it becomes time she shows her true potential again

I want Amelie to win because it`s sad that she broke down after the french open last year and I want her to get back were she was before

Dec 24th, 2001, 12:20 PM
I want Juju to win because I want her to be the 1st belgian girl to win a Slam and to finish the year at the 1st spot <img src="wink.gif" border="0"> Oh, and I want her to win so that she can show the world that "size doesn't matter"!

I want Kim to win because that would be fun to see boyfriend and girlfriend win the same Slam at the same time! <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

I think Monica deserves it we all know why also it would get her into double figuers on grandslams won!

Dec 24th, 2001, 02:24 PM
After everything Mary has been through, I think she deserves a little happiness.

Dec 24th, 2001, 02:32 PM
I will be glad when Monica Seles wins the 2002 Australian Open because she is one of the most talented as well as nicest players on the tour. Also there is no player who deserves to win more than Monica. It will put her in double digits for Grand Slams.

Dec 24th, 2001, 03:17 PM
I'd like Jennifer to win to prove all the doubters wrong who say she can't defend her title. I mean c'mon no-one thought she was going to win it 2001 who's to say she can't do it again this year?!

Dec 24th, 2001, 03:43 PM
I want a spanish girl to win it coz the Oz Open has never been won by a spaniard.

Dec 24th, 2001, 06:02 PM
There are many players that I would love to see win the Oz Open.

Martina Hingis- She is too talented to not have won a slam in nearly three years and Martina continues to try and prove herself to be a top contender.

Lindsay Davenport- Lindsay is another player who should have won a slam this year. I would love to see Lindsay win here since this may be her best chance to win a slam in 02.

Serena Williams- With the proper preparation, Serena could be in the final this year. By winning the IW's, the Canadian Open, making the final of the US Open defeating Hingis and Davenport and winning the Chase Championships, I believe Serena has regained her 99 form. I would love to see her win here.

Venus Williams- With no preparation, Venus came into the Oz Open and made it to the semifinals. If she plays the Gold Coast and doubles @ Sydney with Serena, that should be adequate preparation for Venus to make it to the final.

Monica Seles- Monica last won this event in 1996 and she has not won a slam since. After regaining great form this summer and fall, it appears that Monica is ready to be a top contender again. It would be great to see Monica win a slam here.

Mary Pierce- Mary won this event in 1995 and although Mary has not played an event in nearly a year, it appears from news reports that she has been training really hard to get into the best playing shape possible. It would be great to see Mary reemerged here.

Justine Henin- Justine's great Australian summer run began here last year with her winning two titles and making it to the fourth round of the Oz before facing defeat by Seles. Since then, Henin's game has improved dramatically with her making it to the semifinals of the French, the finals of Wimbledon, and winning one title and making the finals of two other events. If she is able to repeat her summer wins, there is no reason that Justine can't win again.

Kim Clijsters- Has improved dramatically since the beginning of the year. There is no reason that she can contend for the top title here.

Anna Kournikova- While 2002 is a rebuilding year for Kournikova, it would be nice to see her have a good run @ the Oz. Unfortunately, Anna stands to lose a lot of points if she does not @ least make it to the quarterfinals. Here's to hoping that she will make it.

To kick some butt off course. Why else?

Dec 24th, 2001, 07:33 PM
I wouldn't mind if any of these 3 did the butt- kicking: Serena, Venus or Jennifer. Big-time kicking with relish.

Dec 24th, 2001, 09:16 PM
bianka lamade - she is my favorit player and i hope she win each single match in her whole carrer. but i´m realictically and i know it will not happen

Dec 24th, 2001, 09:32 PM
I would like to see Lindsay winning the first grand-slam-title in 2002 because she didn´t win a grand-slam tourney for two years, even though she has always played quite well through the last two years. But because of bad draws and injuries, she wasn´t able to win one of the "BIG FOUR". <br />Maybe she will make it better this time.<br />I wish her the best.

When Jelena plays in 2003, I hope she wins to get back at all she's gone thru.

Dec 25th, 2001, 12:30 AM
I have a list of them -

Martina Hingis - Because she's gone for quite a bit without one and I'm sick of her getting written off because she lacks the power.

Amanda Coetzer - The ultimate "size doesn't matter" argument. Plus, I'd like to see her have a big hurrah on her way out (which I dread will be soon).

Justine Henin - Another "size doesn't matter" reason. Plus I get a big kick out of watching her play. Hingis' game is (or "was") stimulating to watch but Henin's the one that gets me out of my seat. More wins at this event means more opportunities for me to watch her play.

Amelie Mauresmo - I'd like to see her get it together and win this thing because, well, I fear that Roland Garros will always be mentally hard for her.

Monica Seles - No need to explain this one.

Serena Williams - I'm getting sick of calling her an "underachiever" but these past few years she has left me no other option.

And that's only out of the ones I think are contenders.

Good luck to all the girls and may the best one win. (Just play some damn fine tennis! Please.) <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Dec 25th, 2001, 04:40 AM
I would like to see Chanda Rubin go far at the Australian Open, because she is very talented and had a very difficult season last year with injury and a knee operation. I think 2002 will be a good year for Chanda.

Dec 25th, 2001, 06:10 AM
Duh? LOL <img src="tongue.gif" border="0">

Dec 25th, 2001, 01:00 PM
I really wouldn't mind if anyone won the 2002 Australian, but my ultimate fav "Ämanda Coetzer"<br />deserves it more then any one in my opinion(except maybe corina morariu)<br />Amanda coetzer has played for so long on the tour she has stayed in the top 20 for so long and she deserves a grand slam so that she can quite her critics and doubters because she has already done the impossible of staying in the top 20 since <br />91-92, who would have thought amanda could reach #3 so exactly who would have thought amanda would win The Australian Open 2002.

Dec 26th, 2001, 03:15 AM
Goolagong would like Jennifer Capriati to defend her title in 2002. She brings joy to the eyes of Goolagong when she wins. Jennifer is the comeback kid and Goolagong wants her to continue the comeback.

Goolagong has had a little too much brandy on this jolly day!

Dec 26th, 2001, 04:05 AM
Amelie, of course, for the reason of confidence and to hopefully kick some of the tension out of the other slams.

I think she needs one really great slam win under her belt and I wouldn't complain if it was in Australia!

Dec 26th, 2001, 12:14 PM
Tammy - I just want her to do well, to improve her confidence a little. She can get a little nervous, but she is very determined. If she goes well, she may have a better year than last <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

An Aussie - We need some more Aussies coming up the rankings. If an Aussie won it would do great things for Australian Tennis. Unfortunatly I don't think it will happen, but maybe a QF by one of them <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Martina Hingis - She just has to win one!??!

Seles - It would be a dream come true after her comeback <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Dec 26th, 2001, 04:08 PM
Because they DESERVE it SO MUCH! LOL!http://bbs.artistdirect.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

<br />... I want Venus or Serena to win the Aus. Open, because... I'm a Williams fan, and naturally, I want them to Win the slams. Another Williams vs. Williams final.. with Serena taking it!

I want one of them to win it, because the more winning they do, the more inspired black kids will be to follow in their footsteps.

I want them to WIN, because I am wholly convinced that these remain the two players, that people root against the most.

<br />But, if I can't have a Williams Champion for the 2002 Aus. Open, then A Stevenson Champion, a Rubin Champion, or a Mauresmo Champion will suffice.http://bbs.artistdirect.com/images/smilies/grin.gif

JAMES BLAKE for the men's Champion!!http://bbs.artistdirect.com/images/smilies/grin.gif

I don't really have a favourite player, but there are lots of players I'd like to see win this:

Martina Hingis - to prove everyone wrong! I genuinely believe that she can beat the big babes again & would like to see her do it.

Serena Williams - because she's underachieved since 1999 & is great to watch.

Justine henin - great game, lots of talent, had a difficult life.

Monica Seles - to put all these youngsters in their place!

Kim Clijsters - because she came so close at RG & has worked so hard and improved so much despite being so young.

Jennifer Capriati - again to prove her critics wrong! She's a great player and a great character.

Anna Kournikova - ditto!

The only players I wouldn't like to see win are Venus Williams and Lindsay Davenport. (Unfortunately two of the favourites!) Basically because I don't particularly enjoy watching either play. I don't find either interesting or beautiful to watch on court. And both have been pretty dominant over the past couple of years so I'd like to see some other players doing well.

Dec 26th, 2001, 05:46 PM
I would like to see KIM win it, because all Belgium would be celebrating and that would be fantastic for such a little country. I would also like to see her win, cause she's my favourite and she lives in my neighbourhood!<br /> <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Dec 26th, 2001, 07:45 PM
Martina Hingis should win the Australian Open because I can't stand to watch her losing a 3rd straight final! 6 finals, 3 wins and 3 losses would be way too much for me!

Just imagine the critics.. what would they say? <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0"> <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0"> <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

Dec 27th, 2001, 01:11 AM
I'd like Monica to win because frankly besides the obvious I don't think that the media gives her the respect that a player of her quality, who has been no.1 in the world and in the top ten for most of her career, deserves.

I think it's time to go to bed, Silv. It's getting late and you're starting to make embarrassing mistakes. ;)

Jul 18th, 2012, 10:45 PM
It boggles my mind that there was a time when Serena was considered an underachiever.
