You can tell a lot about their character:

Mauresmo:I think I played a solid match, pretty consistent," said Mauresmo. "I went a little bit more to the net, which I should do even more."

We're probably going to see a lot more of her in the next few years," said Mauresmo of Ivanovic, who led 3-1 in the second set. "Apparently she's been improving a lot in these last few months and this last year."

Ivanovic:I was a little bit nervous at the start," admitted Ivanovic. "I think in the second set also I was a little bit disappointed with my service game in the end. But, that's experience. Next time I hope I won't make the same mistakes."

Serena:By no means I don't think it was a walk in the park," said Williams. "I think I was really ready to play because I knew she was a young, talented, good player, and I wanted to make sure I was ready."
I told her to keep up the good work because it was good to see someone from India for the first time do so wel," said Williams. "I was excited to see someone particularly do so well from that country, and I told her to keep fighting."

Maria abou playin Silvia: Definitely when I play top players, when I play seeded players, I know that I'm No. 4 in the world and when they see me in the draw they don't say, 'Well, I really wanted to play her.'"

Kuznetsova:"I'm happy that I won, but I wish I played better," said Kuznetsova. "But that's okay. I still fight as much as I could. Of course it didn't go the way I want it to go. I think I could win much easier.

"But sometimes you have bad days, and this is tough in Grand Slams. You have to handle it."

Maria really steals Serena's lines in interviews
Serena said almost the exact same thing (about other players not saying "yesssss!" when they see they have to face serena) a few days ago

I'm sure if you pick through all of their interviews, and quote selectively, you could make any of these women look either very classy and gracious, or like sore winners/losers.

Maria the plagiarist, she quotes Serena without giving her the credit.

Maria the plagiarist, she quotes Serena without giving her the credit.Oh please, Maria has been saying that since she was 16.
No one wants to be bounced by a talented 16 year old.
We discussed this in Russian Roulette in 2003.

Maria's quote wasn't about Silvia - she was asked how she'd changed since last year (their previous meeting)

full quote:

Q. You say a lot of things have happened since then. Do you feel a different person from a year ago?

MARIA SHARAPOVA: Not as much a person, I feel more as a player. Definitely when I play top players, when I play seeded players, I know that, you know, I'm No. 4 in the world and when they see me in the draw they don't say, "Well, I really wanted to play her."

So, you know, I feel a bit of confidence in myself that I know that even if I'm playing, you know, a seeded player, somebody that's been on a roll, I know that I'm, you know ‑‑ I've been in those situations as well and I know what to do and I feel more experienced.

Not exactly modesty personified, but not as arrogant as you might think from the snippet above.

Maria is really owning up the 'carbon copy' image.

I'm not saying you made her quote up, I'm just saying that people (posters and reporters both) often take things out of context and it changes the way the quotes sound. Look at her whole interview, and she sound a lot less arrogant.
