it's such a shame she has to play #1, like Ana had to play Mauresmo yesterday. If it was anyone else except this two girls and Serena, i'd say she'd won, but Lindsay is just too good. Best luck Nicole :)

Nicole definitely has the shots to eventually be a force on tour. Just not sure this is the tournament she scores her first big upset.

i think lindsay will win in 2 but like duleml says it's a real pity nicole has to play against her coz nic is a so talented player and with a better draw, she could reach the 1/4!! go nicole all the way!! plz make linsay move and take her a set to show at everybody your great great potential!!!

Like with Myskina/Raymond, an upset possible, but not likely.

Just like peng to venus, a possible upset but did'nt happen.

Exactly. But once I saw Peng's serve, I knew Venus would win.

I think that it will be close and Nicole will definately have her chances. Lindsay looked vulnerable in her second round match against Pastikova, and Nicole looked solid against Jelena Kostanic. I really think this will be a tough match, in fact, I think that Nicole just might win. Who knows, I hope that this won't be a dissapointment like Li vs. Sharapova or Davenport vs. Martinez.

Lindsay is ready for this match. She really underestimated Pastikova coming in, but she said she'll be ready for Vaidisova. Lindsay in 2 sets.

I really think Vaidisova will play well, but hopefully Lindsay will start off quickly and remember how much she wants the slam. Lindsay in 2, 7-6 [5] 6-3

I think Lindsay would have warmed up enough at the Australian Open to take Nicole out in two sets. Maybe a scoreline of 6/3 6/2.

Davenport v Martinez was never going to go any differently - Martinez hasn't won a match since the start of August

It'd be nice to see one of these upsets come off, but I doubt it will - Nicole's game still has massive flaws in it, as talented as she is, and I suspect Lindsay will totally rape that backhand.

Something I have also noticed with these young threats is the weakness of their serve. Sesil, Ivanovic, Peng...they all had less than impressive serves. I've never seen Nicole, but it seems to be a weakness of many young players now.

I've also noticed that this is totally contrary to what we get told about them: whenever a new prospect emerges, the talk is all "she has such an impressive serve blah blah blah"... and then we see it get massacred by top 20 players.

There is a place for an upset but I think Lindsey's game is too good. Nicole will give a great fight, that's sure. I would looove to see Nicole win but I doubt (my predictions are almost always wrong so.. who knows? :D )

I don't agree completely. Ana, Nicole, Michaella (and maybe others that I don't have in my mind right now) have a very, very good serve for their age. It works very well with most of the players, it opens the court for attacks and it's powerful. Nobody said they have some of the best serves on the WTA but for their age it's a real weapon- their rankings are the proof. Against the top players, used to much bigger services, it doesn't make the weight but that doesn't mean they don't have a good service. They will improve with the time. For the moment it's enough.

And about Sesil (and maybe Peng- I didn'y pay attention to her service :o )- noone said she has a good service game, it's the opposite.
