She nearly lost the second set to Marissa in 2000, down 2-5.

Another interesting stat that Mary Joe brought up is that when Lindsay won all of her slams, she did so without losing a set.

Linds usually has trouble in this particular round in grand slams. Good win Lindsay :)

Jan 20th, 2005, 03:07 AM
Alot of the seeded players are losing their first sets....!
But wow I didn't know it was a common past stat for lindsay, oh well the thing is, she manages to win them ! and shes through to the third round.

The not yet awake phenomena was seen today with Nastya, Tatiana, Francesca as well as Lindsay - its diagnosed by your serve stats being bad. Patty is having trouble too but her stats are pretty good.

She played pretty good tennis apparently in the last two sets :)

Interesting stat though

in 1998 davenport bt habsudova in the second round 2/6 6/0 9/7 (i think that was the score)

Jan 20th, 2005, 08:31 AM
Hopefully it'll be plain sailing to the quarters.

Jan 20th, 2005, 09:00 AM
the men appear to be havin the same trouble too

Jan 20th, 2005, 09:00 AM
i THINK its may be cause they are slightly more relaxed, thinking they will sail through against a low seeded/non seeded player. They then wake up when they realise its not!

I remember that Habsudova match in 98, yea the score was 2-6 6-0 9-7. It was a really good match, when Karina was at her best she great and really exciting to watch. She was kinda unlucky not to win that day...seems round 2 is always difficult for Lindsay! :p

Yeah, Iroda played well that match, but Lindsay cleans up when she needs to, that's for sure.

Interesting.

Nearly a tradition now. :p

Jan 20th, 2005, 11:42 AM
this is very strange indeed ;)

but she manages to win all those matches though ;)

yeah is a bit strange that she has trouble in 2nd rounds even after an impressive first round. she is winning the matches anyway and it is kind of good for her because she is working for a win before she gets to the big matches where she will need to be ready to work so by having the tough 2nd round match it warns her in advance about the tougher matches ahead.
