I hope she beats Dulko this time, TianTian coul dhave done with at least one win to get her up the rankings when everyone else around her had points off... :fiery:

Tough draw, might face Molik in round two :scared: TianTian has dealt with big servers like Stosur before, Hope she has a really good tournament :D  Best of luck!

It's so depressing! Another poor start to the season by TianTian. I don't know what all this team training in China etc is doing for her, she seems to be regressing. She only won Tashkent cos the CTA didnt send any minions to follow her! grrr. Hope she does better in doubles at Pattaya, although she should pla with Sun :fiery: I think they put her with Ji Chun-Mei because they want to get moe chinese girls into top 100 of coubles rankings :o

tiantian is helping to boost ji and shengnan's doubles ranking up :) probably we will see 4 Chinese teams to compete in G.S in near future. yan/zheng, na/peng and a mixed combination with tiantian, shengnan and ji. :haha:

Pasta-Na
Feb 8th, 2007, 11:41 PM
i think tiantian is physically stronger than yan/zheng and more skilful than na/peng in doubles. its what makes her to be a good teacher :)

andrewC
Feb 9th, 2007, 12:00 AM
yeh, TianTian can really whip forehands and her serve is over 100 mph... She always looks the most toned and fit, too. Yan has a good serve also, is better at volleys, but less consistent. Zheng is best at consistency and depth and movement. Na easily the most powerful! Na needs to work on match strategy lol then she can really reach her peak. I really hope double Sun play more often! They could be such a good team, SteveG said ShengNan is a smart player, and is also fairly tall and strong. They should be the other team for the Olympics, TianTian deserves the chance to defend her title :fiery:

andrewC
Feb 14th, 2007, 03:07 PM
the CTA are dumb :smash: Sun/Sun has something going on, a connection, and they put her with Peng, who is blatantly a very good singles but not a very good doubles player. (no offense, just the truth).

About the CTA's rule to take away prize money if they lose in first round, all I can is :help: for Tiantian :tape:

Jie and Na are really consistent and I doubt they'll be really affected by that rule (apart from Jie's early six-loss-streak in the beginning of the year, she had like only 2 first round losses from March to November;) )

As for Tiantian however, if she maintains her "I-have-4-great-tournaments-a-year-and-suck-the-rest-of-the-time-attitude", :help:

Pasta-Na

people said shuai peng moves so fast when she plays doubles :p vera/peng def yan/zheng last year, remember?

with shuai's big serve. probably tiantian/peng will dominate the doubles domain :p wonder who na li will partner with. yan/zheng and sun/ji are fixed i suppose, tiantian is still finding a good doubles partner. it would be cool if China has 4 good doubles teams :rocker2:

I'm hoping TianTian gets her tactics right, she is well capable of beating Sprem in the first round at Indian Wells. She could force Sprem into her erratic mode, spraying her ground strokes everywhere. That's the plan I'd have anyway! Show her your forehand, TianTian! Best of luck :D ;)

O.k, so personally i'm a bit disgusted Sun is playing doubles with Rodionova (who she owns in singles :p ), secondly again in the first round she faces Yan/Zheng, and third of all the quarterfinal of either Sun/Rodionova or Yan/Zheng would be Chan/Chuang!

Nightmare!

Really disappointed about TianTian's 1st round in Miami, losing to Vania King (who she has beaten before) 7-6(4) 7-5 especially when you consider the points she had to defend and also the sheer amount of chances she had. A member watched her play and said she was the more powerful, more dominant player especially on Vania's second serves but it counted for nothing when it came to it, with her forehand going long too often and only 2/15 break points (up til 4-4 second set) converted. SO annoyed! :smash: :tears: this must be really demoralising for Tianx2... Poor girl, going to lose in first round of doubles too, either ordered to by CTA or just because she's playing with an ASS, a combination of the two probably

Oh dear, you have the weapons, maybe its tactics that's going wrong? someone who watched TianTian in an earlier tournament this season said she didn't change her forehand grip in time for most shots during a rally, causing her to spray her shots long. she lost 6-3 5-7 7-5... She had a great game when her first serve went in, 4 aces, took a fair share of the points when Brandi hit her second serve, but TianTian only won 28% of points on her second serve :o :help: :tape:

She needs to work on this, I've noticed this is letting her down in her last few matches, especially on clay... maybe she is trying to hit spin but on clay it just doesn't work, whereas it is more solid on hard or grass? I wish her better luck in later competitions this season, she needs to win some matches quick or she'll slip out of the top 100 again :tears:

Just in time, team finds perfect pair

By Zhao Rui (China Daily)
Updated: 2007-04-17 09:37

China's Grand Slam winners Zheng Jie and Yan Zi ended their three-month title drought at the Family Circle Cup yesterday, but new pairing Peng Shuai and Sun Tiantian stole the limelight simply by making it to the final.
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/sports/2007-04/17/xin_350404170946306230504.jpg
China's Shuai Peng returnsthe ball during her match against Tatiana Golovin of France during the third round of the Family Circle Cup tennis tournament Thursday, April 12, 2007, in Charleston, S.C.[AP]

After the retirement of Olympic gold medalist Li Ting the country has been searching for another competitive doubles pair in a bid to repeat the success of the Athens Games next year in Beijing.
Despite a 7-5, 6-0 loss in Charleston to their teammates Zheng and Yan in the WTA's first ever All-Chinese doubles final at a Tier I event, Peng and Sun have all but secured their place in China's Olympic team.
"They are very likely to become our second pair at the Beijing Olympics," Gao Shenyang, vice-director of the Administrative Center of Tennis, said. "We want to field the best possible players at the Olympics. They have a mixture of experience and talent and they played much better than we expected. Peng is already a good singles player, so I think there will be great chemistry between them in the very near future."
Paired for the second time at a major tournament, the duo proved an instant hit, ousting world No 1s Samantha Stosur and Lisa Raymond in the second round and then rallying to beat Flavia Pennatta and Gisela Dulko. They were quickly given the nickname "Tian-Shuai" by Chinese media, meaning "sweet and graceful".
"It's quite comfortable playing with Peng," said doubles veteran Sun Tiantian after the match. "I think we've got great rhythm because our games are similar. Peng is a very powerful player and things are much easier when she is around."
China has had trouble finding a second doubles force since Olympian champions Li Ting and Sun Tiantian began to lose form in 2005. Different rotations were tested this year Li Na, Peng Shuai, as well as youngsters Sun Shengnan and Ji Chunmei, but none of them have looked capable of assisting Zheng and Yan in the country's gold medal quest next year.
The two Suns played some good tennis during a six-game winning streak early in the season and reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, but Sun Shengnan's modest singles ranking (235) makes it hard for her to secure a berth in the Beijing draw.
Gao said the two pairs will be finalized in late June, when a new Olympic Points System takes effect, but if Peng and Sun keep up their good form the decision could come sooner.
"We don't need to wait that long because they are already showing something we are looking for," said Gao. "Personally I hope we can fix it as soon as possible to give them more tournaments to get used to playing with each other. We have already discussed the matter with the coaches."
On the singles' side, Peng has shown signs of improvement after teaming up with Chinese-American Michael Chang in four tournaments in North America. She climbed up to No 32 from 65 and upset Swiss veteran Patty Schnyder last week en route to the quarterfinals.
Chang has yet to reach a formal agreement with Peng's Tianjin Tennis Team, but his efforts have made a difference.
"I had some tough days last year and it was Chang who turned it around," Peng said. "He gave me the confidence to brush aside a daunting 2006 season. We really feel good with each other and he brought me a lot of energy."
The new pair, however, won't have any time to rest as they will lead China at the Fed Cup tie against Italy this month.
According to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the players need to compete in at least two Fed Cup ties to qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games. World No 17 Li and No 33 Zheng have been sidelined to give younger players a chance to rack up Olympic ranking points.
Peng and Sun Tiantian are expected to fill in and shoulder the task of leading the national team to an historic high. "This is another test for them," said Gao. "A few victories in the US doesn't guarantee anything. They need to keep the momentum at the upcoming events."

Tennis-China's top two miss Fed Cup tie after misunderstanding
By Ken Ferris
LONDON, April 18 (Reuters) - China's top two Li Na and Zheng Jie will miss this weekend's Fed Cup tie against holders Italy after the Chinese Tennis Association misunderstood the rules.
World number 17 Li Na and 33rd ranked Zheng Jie were left out of the squad to help other players qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, according to a senior CTA official.
"This is to ensure the Olympic players have played Fed Cup twice before the Games as the (rules) require," Gao Shenyang, deputy director of the CTA, told Reuters last month.
"The Olympics has the first priority," he added ahead of China's world group debut in Castellaneta Marina. "If there are conflicts we have to sacrifice the Fed Cup."
However, the International Tennis Federation has written to the CTA to explain that players only have to be eligible for the Fed Cup to qualify for the Olympics and do not have to play.
"We did what we could," an ITF spokesman said on Wednesday. "It appeared they'd made a decision based on a misunderstanding of the rules. We advised them because we think it's important that the Fed Cup has the strongest teams possible."
"They sacrificed the Fed Cup for the Olympics and we said they didn't need to," he added. "It's a real shame."
The error means China have to play Fed Cup holders Italy with a weakened squad that includes Zhang Shuai and Sun Sheng-Nan, who are both outside the world's top 200.
World number 32 Peng Shuai and Olympic doubles gold medallist Sun Tiantian, ranked 90th, are also in the squad.
With Li, China's best hope of singles gold at the Olympics, and Zheng the team had been considered contenders to win the Fed Cup but Italy are now clear favourites to win the tie.
A CTA spokeswoman in Beijing said on Wednesday that she was not aware of the mix-up, adding that the squad had departed for Italy earlier in the day for the April 21-22 tie.

3. Black/Huber vs. T.Sun/Tu

This match dragged. Basically, everyone wanted them off court for the final to start. Maybe I just don't appreciate doubles, but there was nothing to get excited about. Huber reminds of of Bartoli. not only Yan/Knowles, but that is presuming they get past the tough late entry into the draw, Jankovic and Jamie Murray, who with Butorac is one of the best male doubles teams in the world. I hope TianTian keeps playing well, I'm sure Likhovtseva would be the burden, not TianTian ;) TianTian has already just beaten her best doubles performance in Wimbledon believe it or not, she had never gotten past the first round before  wishing you big success for doubles here at Wimbledon TianTian!

Lena was awful in the matches i watched her, dumping all her volleys in the net! QF in WD and XD at Wimbledon is nothing to be ashamed about, however! TianTian's match against Loit in the first round singles has been put on the internet, she seems to have so much game but just loses concentration :( so annoying! i hope she has a strong finish to the year and wins another doubles title! She has gone so long without winning one, despite two doubles finals... Wishing her well as always :D  ;)

According to a poster, in the Srebotnik/Sugiyama vs Likhovtseva/Sun match, Elena was the consistent one, and Tiantian the up and down one. Tiantian hit some nice winners but also netted easy returns.
