Not a bad first round opponent, and if she can beat her, she will face a qualifier (hopefully a tired qualifier ;) ) in the second round. one of the more beatable seeds, TianTian, so good luck and fight and dominate like you did aginst Patty!

Yeh, she lost to Likhovtseva at another GS, if i remember correctly? :scared:

She should do o.k, she's had good results of late and should have some confidence and form. She's heading for a new career high going into the US Open, of 83, and will then be Chinese number 4 again

Li/Sun play int he same eigth of the doubles draw as Mauresmo/Kuznetsova (possible second round opponents), Li/Peng and Zheng/Yan. Conspiracy?! haha Hope Li/Sun make it to the 3rd round to play a chinese team, and whoever wins that match is strong enough to go on to win the whole thing. Would be cool if Li/Sun won the US Open, as Zi and Jie are pretty much in the YEC already anyway! Good luck Li/Sun and TianTian in singles too

yet another win the first set playing brilliantly and then tank the final 2 sets loss :help: :tears:
Actually, it could have been worse :p

Tiantian was down 0-2 in the third set (having lost 8 games in a row), and I really thought she was going to be double bagelled or something :tape: . But Tiantian fought back to level things at 2-2, held at 2-3 saving 1 BP, held at 3-4 saving 2 BPs. Too bad she could not hold while serving to stay in the match

Still good effort Tiantian.

oh and Ellery, don't know if its the new fitness coach from Italy or whatever, but this is a buck in the trend of TianTian results.... From now on, I hope it's more a case of win-the-first-set-by-fighting-hard-then-losing-second-set-in-a-collapse-but-stick-it-out-and-pull-it-off-in-three-sets wins! :bigwave:

maybe now Ting is apparently more focused on her usband, it will make TianTian focus more on her singles game? I'd love it if just like Zi last year TianTian had a breakthrough and won Guangzhou, 3 chinese winners in a row  Here's wishing :o

Well at least she is optimistic and can see her faults. Good showing, but all those QF points from last year lost.... If she has a good Guangzhou she coul get back into Top 100 maybe, she lost in first round there last year i believe? Good luck TianTian, and to TT/Ting in doubles too... hope they refind some sort of form! :scared:

i think so. CTA keeps saying she is getting old and her heart is on her husband instead of Tennis. On the other hand, they appreciate Sun's recent performance. :o

Damn right theys hould appreciate TianTian's recent performances! She's played really well. But, watching her match on youtube against Amelie, she needs to work on her volleys and improve her strength and ability to hit winners from her backhand side... she hit a few winners from her backhand, but there is definitel room for improvement. She's still 24, 25 in October so I think she still has her best few seasons to come.
Prepare well and fight at Guangzhou! Hope her and Ting win one more title before they split :tears:

Pasta-Na
Sep 24th, 2006, 05:05 PM
CTA said they wont split. They just want T.T to get out from the slump asap.

btw, sun vs ting li in the first round... poor ting li... her ranking is getting down.

andrewC
Sep 25th, 2006, 09:50 AM
Although I feel bad for Ting, I do want Sun to fight against Na in the second round, results permitting
TianTian has been seen in many photos lately training with Na, should be interesting....
I was hoping for a better draw for TianTian, that second quarter is SO weak, I wish TianTian was int hat one so she could get to the quarter finals, since her form has been so good as of late. She suffered from losing so many points after last year's Beijing QF :tears:
Best of luck, Sun, maybe a second round upset is on the cards ;)

Pasta-Na
Sep 25th, 2006, 04:27 PM

Sep 25th, 2006, 07:31 PM

Pasta-Na
Sep 26th, 2006, 04:26 PM
the Media in China actually is forcing T.T to play better :haha: they always ask the same questions "u girls are gonna to split?" "u girls dont like each other?" "have been playing badly because of marriage?"

glad to hear they finally clarified their situation :D

andrewC
Sep 26th, 2006, 10:40 PM

ting said it might be the last game she would play sun in singles. she will focus more on doubles... like janet lee...

I think that would be foolish
she has a good game for singles (big serve, big forehand)
she beat Tu, who is a Top 100 player

she is going to travel for doubles anyway so why not play singles when she can get into the Q draw

andrewC
Sep 26th, 2006, 10:45 PM

andrewC
Sep 29th, 2006, 05:31 AM
Just watched the Na vs Sun match from Guangzhou.... Thanks Adri!!
TianTian looked so unenthusiastic, and her two best weapons, her forehand and serve, were misfiring really badly... error after error, and she just couldnt get her first serve in :smash: If she could keep her consistency, i could see her dictating some of the rallies and with her game she has so much potential! Hopefully Sun will improve more and more in her own right to be an even more dangerous player :D

Pasta-Na
Sep 29th, 2006, 06:02 AM

andrewC
Sep 30th, 2006, 05:40 PM
I'd say more like 40% :p
The venue did not look that good at all, and yes, quite poorly lit. I dunno, Hope she stops getting so frustrated so easily if she is to improve in the rankings! Good luck in Tashkent, kick ass there and win your first title

Plus, Sun And Ting into the finals of doubles, 2 walkovers :tape: haha They better win this now, such a good chance, but I'm worried they haven't had much match play! Good luck girls :D

The pic of Tiantian on wtatour.com is so cute  and I love the line:
"Sun, who went to three sets in her first match of the tournament but cruised through three more rounds in straight sets to reach the final, was again in solid form under sunny Sunday skies, keeping her strokes deep, returning well and rarely giving away any free points in the rallies." love the aliteration and sun references :D

Lol, here it says Jiang would stay in Beijing after Guangzhou Open making schedules for next year...
http://sports.sohu.com/20060916/n245375277.shtml

Thank God he did not go to Tashkent and you won your 1st career title. :worship:

But today i read that Jiang travelled again to Bankok. He feels it a pity having missed witnissing your 1st title ?
I guess he would choose the tournaments where several of us players go together.

But you Ting and Zi all lost in the first round there in both singles and doubles. :o

they will go wherever they can play Main Draw

so in week 1, Jie/Zi will go Hong Kong. Na/Shuai will go Gold Coast. Tian Tian will go Auckland because she is very close to the Main Draw already

in week 2, Na / Jie / Shuai will go Sydney. Zi will go AO Q. Tian Tian will probably go Hobart but I am not sure

Poor Ting. no wonder their results were so poor, her heart wasnt in the game any more. Shame, such a good team! But yes, Double Sun are also rocking :D
Good luck Sun/Knowle and Sun/Sun! keep progressing ;)

Double Sun is on fire, kicking US Open 06 champs dechy and zvonereva out 6-3 6-3! 4th round now for my girls :D  they need to work on their break point conversions again though... 14 chances, only 5 taken. Worrying as they get to the latter stages and could face Jie and Zi soon! Keep up the good work, I'm really impressed and look forward to continued progress :lick:

Ellery, have you got a link to that article, maybe a translation? ;)

Sun/Sun :hearts: A QF in Shengnan's first GS!

It's quite impressive. I'm sad to see that Ting Li and Sun are not playing, as I saw them play together live before their real success, but it seems Shen Nan is a good partner too. It's good to see so many Asians left in the dubs draw at least! :D

Sheng Nan is a very smart player. It's good to see her bounce back in doubles and learn from SUN S experience. Singles results will hopefully soon be in par with her current doubles performances.

Brave fight from Double Sun, losing 6-3 7-6 to Jie and Zi. Great first grand slam for these two, long may the success continue! A much better prospect than Shuai/Na for Beijing I think. Keep going Sun in mixed doubles, tough matches to come though :scared:

Sun and Knowle lost a tight quarter final against Schiavone and Bjorkman, 7-6(3) 6-4... only took one of 10 break point chances :tears:

Good luck in Tokyo, qualify and win a round or two in MD!

shame she has to play Seiko, she's a good professional and I like her. But considering, its a very winnable match for TianTian so i'm happy! :D

and they didn't... Poor TianTian, she could have got some good tier 1 points if she hadn't have messed up in singles and had a bad draw in doubles! :tears:

Best of luck in Pattaya, Please kick some serious butt. :fiery:

Good luck in advance for Indian Wells, she tends to do well in the american hardcourts, I hope she qualifies and wins a round or two in MD... the form she's in lately though :o

Her and Sheng-Nan are 7th in doubles race after two tournaments together, I hope they have plenty more success  Sheng-Nan looks cute in her hairband! :D
