Okay, but only in simplified form as below. All of them are nice and indicate profound meaning:

李娜 Li Na: 李Li means plum(the upper 木wood and lower 子son). 娜na means beautiful and graceful in every way, 女 on left side of 娜 refers to female.)

李婷 Li Ting: 婷ting means natural grace, also lady's name only, and the right part of ting,亭,refers to pavilion(imagine a beauty in a pavillion)

彭帅 Peng Shuai: 彭Peng, the sound (shape) of (playing)drum, 帅shuai means beautiful or handsome, also commander or general, both male/female's name

郑洁 Zheng Jie: 郑Zheng, the homophone is 正 means square and positive, 洁Jie means clean.

晏紫 Yan Zi: 晏yan means comfort(the upper日, day and lower 安safety) the homophone is 燕 refers to swallow, while 紫ZI means purple, sounds like 子, auxiliary word here. Her nick name is swallow.

袁梦 Yuan Meng: (袁ancient long dress, the homophone 圆round. 梦meng is dream. (the upper part 林,two wood and lower 夕,means sunset)
Her nick name is dream becomes true! )

孙甜甜: Sun TianTian: 孙means grand/son (子son, and 小, means small) spelled sun. 甜甜Tiantian means SweetSweet(composed with tounge and sweet)

Dont know if i made myself understood? I think Chinese language is one of the most scientific in the world

PS: In China, family name is placed in front and first name behind

Hi AndrewC,

I didn't expect the posting about Chinese players names could arouse such interest and u put my posting here!
Well, I've done some revision there! I would put them here for your comment.:)
You may delete the previous one above.

In China, family name is placed in front and first name behind.
All of them are nice and indicate profound meanings

李娜 Li Na:
李Li means plum (the upper 木wood and lower 子son)
娜na means beautiful and graceful in every way. 女 on left side of 娜 refers to female.
(Fruit trees and beautiful flowers)

李婷 Li Ting:
婷ting means graceful, slim and sound. The right half 亭 refers to pavilion, the character looks like it too.
Also female's name as you can see 女 on left side (Imagine a beauty stands there in a pavilion)

彭帅 Peng Shuai:
彭Peng, the sound (shape) of (playing)drum, 帅shuai means beautiful or handsome, also commander or general.
Both male and female's name

郑洁 Zheng Jie: (sounds like clean and tidy)
郑zheng means serious and solemn (关:close, key area or care, the right half is ear!! It's not to close ears, i guess, but let ears stand up ready? It is prounanced like 整(with rise-fall in tone, while 郑 fall in tone) which means complete or tidy.
洁Jie means clean, usually female's name.

晏紫 Yan Zi: (sounds like swallow)
晏yan means comfort (the upper 日day and the lower 安safety) its homophone is 燕swallow.
(people with this surname are quite limited)
紫Zi, means purple, sounds like 子, auxiliary word here. Her nick name is swallow.

袁梦 Yuan Meng: (Her nick name is dream comes true)
袁ancient long dress, the homophone is 圆round.
梦meng is dream. (the upper part 林 means two wood and the lower 夕 means sunset) usu. female's name

孙甜甜: Sun TianTian: (Sun and double sweet)
孙 means grand/son (子son, 小small) spelled sun, not prounced that way in English tho.
甜甜Tiantian means SweetSweet, composed of 舌tongue and 甘sweet. (for female)

Dont know if i made myself understood? I think Chinese language is one of the most scientific in the world

Ting/Tiantian lost 7-5 7-6 i think to Stosur/ Raymond :( Ting/Tiantian always seem to get drawn with this team well before the final stages of tournaments, and often lose to them

Hope TianTian plays a better tournament in singles at Miami, although the field there is bound to be even tougher... Hope she gets a decent doubles run again in Miami too as well :D

It's somehow a good sign these two teams meet up in tournaments : it shows that Tian Tian / Ting achieve results at least in accordance with their seeding.

O.k, so Double-T Sunshine (as one of the posters in GM likes to call her hehe ;)) will face Angela Hayens in first round, another tough powerful player. But what is really exciting/scary/promising experience for Sun, is that if she wins her first round match, she will play Martina Hingis!!!! Now, regardless of the score, it is almost definite Hingis would win (even though I always think Sun could pull off the upset  ), I would LOVE to watch this match so if anyone reads this message and knows how to record and upload movies on the internet, PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE record and upload the potential 2nd round Miami match between Sun and Hingis! what an exciting tournament :D

Sun was defeated 6-3, 6-2..... she couldnt take advantage of Hingis's second seves, she wasn't doing enough with her own first serves, but she didnt disgrace herself at all... she hit more winners, more aces and less double faults than Martina, just probably lots of unforced errors. I'd be so happy if anyone recorded this and put it up to download

A doubles match against Loit is never an easy one. Tian Tian / Ting know it from their previous encounters.

they won 6-2 6-4 :D:D  :) ;)
Far too many double faults though, they got something like 6 or 7 in their first round match too :(
Do they play Martina Navratilova and Liezel Huber next? :scared:

P.S. TianTian is back up to 106 in singles rankings after a decent tournament here. too bad she will take a break until the clay season (don't see her on any entry lists for the next few events, im guessing because the chinese team is playing fed cup?) and will not have the chance to build on her form. She is looking in great shape at the moment, so hope she can break the top 100 and hit some form in Roland Garros, the grand slam that she surprisingly hasnt qualified into MD for!

So he made sth different for the 1st time
1. They wanted Tiantian/Ting to focus more on doulbles.
2. Avoid TianTian/Ting meet Jie/Zi in doubles and singles as well. Ting is a threat, who beat both of them in their previous meetings.

TianTian is still in next in qualifying though... :sad:To raise singles ranking, they both need to play in lower Tiers or high Tiers at least in qualifying list.

They two are wanted to focus on doubles and raise doubles ranking as high as top12 so as to enter Olympic Game. Playing in singles may not gaurantee them to reach top50, qualified to enter Olympic Games.
Zi is near top70, it might be easy for her to reach top 50, so she can play more singles.

She played on her own because the rest of the Chinese team had other priorities, I can't remember the reason for it now though, it's escaped me... If she can increase her singles ranking into top 50,she may get a position in singles in 2008.

Well done Tiantian/Ting!

andrewC
May 7th, 2006, 03:39 PM
Well TianTian's form has dropped off really badly in singles after she was just getting momentum from the American hardcourts because the rest of the Chinese team got some match play at Fed Cup, but TianTian just did "training". Fat lot of use that was! :fiery: After a dominating first set, including an ace (she has a surprisingly useful serve, not too many DF's) 6-3 vs Cohen Aloro, she loses the next two without a trace, 6-1 6-0. Such a shame. Hope for a better show in Rome if she gets into qualifying (on next in list, number 4) and if not, then Strasbourg. Such a shame for her. Best of luck in doubles now, win Berlin! :o
P.S. nice to see Ting with 2 qualifying round wins in Berlin... hope she gets into MD

Sun and Li both in the final qualies round of Rome tier one  maybe just as well they got out of Berlin doubles so early! Both could do with doing well in singles. I predict Zheng/Yan win Berlin doubles (easy 6-2 6-0 win today in SF) and Ting and TianTian to win Rome :o
3 aces by sun today, only one DF, although lots of breaks fo serve on clay... hopefully she can qualify for MD and cause some trouble with her big forehand and loopy back hands on clay. fight TianTian :D ;)

Tian Tian was broken 7 times in the whole match :help: her first serve is wicked when it's on, she got another ace in today's match, but her second serve is WEAK. only won 24% of points behind her second serve. LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Li Na, China's first seeded singles player in a grand slam draw, swept into the third round at Wimbledon with an impressive 6-2 6-4 victory over American Meilen Tu on Wednesday.

"I am happy with my performance," she said as the sun set on a memorable day for four Chinese women players who have their sights firmly set on the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Li was seeded 27th for the Wimbledon championships on the back of her WTA ranking of 30th, a record high for a Chinese singles player.

On Wednesday, she followed three other Chinese woman in notching up a notable triumph for the rising tennis nation at Wimbledon.

Zheng Jie faced a tough battle against the Czech Eva Birnerova before advancing to the third round 7-6 5-7 6-3.

Relieved to have come out on top, she said: "It was difficult today. She had a big serve and good backhand. It really is great to be here at Wimbledon for the first time."

But she, like all the other new young hopefuls of Chinese tennis, had her thoughts firmly fixed on triumphing before a home crowd.

"With the Olympics coming to Beijing in 2008, our tennis association is giving big support to everyone," she said.

Sun Tian-Tian, who has already tasted Olympic glory with a doubles gold medal at Athens in 2004, had a confidence-boosting 6-3 6-4 victory over Italian Nathalie Vierin to reach the second round.

"In grand slams all matches are tough but I played well today," she told Reuters after her victory.

She certainly did not appear to be phased by the grass courts of Wimbledon. "It is the same for everybody isn't it?" she said.

In another first round triumph, Peng Shuai defeated Greece's Eleni Daniilidou 6-4 6-4.

Daniilidou had scored a major shock at Wimbledon last year when she knocked out Justine Henin-Hardenne in the first round.

For China has been gradually making breakthrough after breakthrough into the top ranks over the last few years.

At the Australian Open in January, Zheng Jie and Yan Zi won China's first grand slam title in women's doubles and then shortly afterwards they became the first Chinese players to rank in the Top 10 in Doubles.

It is clear the CTA's aim is to make TianTian and Ting focus on the doubles here at Tier II LA, whether they'll win it after their latest performances i doubt it :tape: , and letting the other girls Zheng, Na and Yan get their singles ranking up in Stockholm Tier IV, im sure the CTA hoping there will be a Chinese titlist here. This is the wrong way round. TianTian should play Stockholm with Ting, great chance of winning another title, and with a weaker singles field for TianTian to improve her singles ranking too. Only Shuai is matched to the right tournament, going to Tier II LA to play singles. makes me mad sometimes, the CTA. I guess if TianTian and Ting can win LA and then do well in US Open doubles there is a chance of two chinese teams in the Year End Championships? BIG "if", though....

I heard lots of rumors about the bad relationship between them. Anyway, for every loss there is a reason. I hope TianTian makes more of her singles, she is so fit, has a good serve and forehand, can obviously volley... it's a shame she has not really developed. I wouldn't mind her playing qualies if I knew she'd qualify... Nowadays i'm not so confident

She could do with all the points she oculd get, to be honest! :tape:

By the way, here is a link to Volcanic_Tennis (Matt)'s report.

On post number 27 of this thread (second page), there is a paragraph on the Ting/Tiantian vs Ana/Makiri match.

It looks as if Maria was being pretty bitchy :fiery: Wish Tiantian had slapped her

Anyways, Tiantian is way cuter than Maria :hearts:

TianTian whipped young un Audra Cohen (who beat Olga Savchuk, decent player in first qualy round) 6-3 6-2. saved 71% of the break points she faced, served 3 aces, and thankfully only two double faults :o

She took advantage of Audra's second service really well it seems from the stats. Keep going TianTian! Hope you win final round qualies and get into MD :D :bounce:

TianTian beat Mara 7-5 6-1, after being down most of the first set, she saved 6 of 7 break points Mara had, when she was down she took many games on Mara's serve to deuce, broke her 4 times and once to love :hearts:
I love this focused attitude from Sun, Shows what she can do against nifty players when she has confidence! Got a lot of her first serve points won, nearly three quarters, plus 2 aces! Solid performance. (only 4 double faults :o ) MD of New Haven, here she comes!

Awesome result, second Top 10 win of her career woohoo! TianTian defeated Patty 6-1 6-3! I'm over the moon(ball) haha
saved 9 of 10 break points (her master stroke)
2 aces, no DF (v.g.)
punished 86% of Patty's second serves
broke 5 times out of 6 opportunities. Solid, great performance. frizzy scalp is hers!

Showed good fighting in the last set, and second set for that matter, refusing to get bagelled :D and some more aces! :woohoo: use that height, TianTian
Like Ellery said in a thread in GMS though, its another one of those win-the-first-set-then-get-your-ass-whipped-in-the-next-two losses
Hopefully she'll take heart from this, she's beaten players higher than her in the rankings just to qualify, and then a TOP 10 PLAYER so hey, it's not all doom and gloom. She must have started to get tired in her 5th match i 5 days too, plus there's doubles still to come. Good idea to rest before USO, hope she can make 3rd round of a slam this time
Good luck with Meilen in NH doubles, Tian Tian, show your opponents your guns :armed:
