Tian Tian was coasting in the first set and then went into meltdown!?! I was tracking between her match and Junri Namigita's match as they were on courts #11 and #9.
I wished her luck on the way to the court and she was really friendly but she looked almost in tears as she went back to the clubhouse.

Omg, first of all, I'm so busy I didn't even realize Wimbly qualies are already happening! And now TianTian has lost already!?!?

I could cry myself.

Hoping for some good doubles results, obviously, for her to feel great about.

Seriously, they got a pretty good draw until the quarters at least. Govortsova/Kustova in first round, then Alona/Katya who haven't played in a while and Shuai/Tiantian have beaten twice this year already.

Im kinda worried about the doubles draw for TianTian/Shuai, Bondarenkos in second round potentially (if they get past the belarussian team!! :scared: ) and then soem more tough teams before Williams sisters in SF. TianTian has beaten Venus in doubles before, but never Williams sisters together... Yikes. I really wish TianTian the best, I hope she has her A-game on, which in doubles is amazing to watch. The way she bosses play from the baseline with angles and groundies... Ah! Go for gold TianTian, it's yours to retain

I think Tian Tian should find another partner as it's obvious that she and Peng don't gel as a team. The only reason they formed was for the Olympics and now that their out, Tian Tian should go and find a good doubles partner, so that she can get some confidence in her game!:(

Poor TianTian is the neglected member of the CTA National Team. I feel so sorry for her. A defending Olympic champion and this happens. And of course, I'm in Hong Kong at the moment and there has been no mention of her loss on TV at all, they only care about the glory. China-controlled images, TVB is so up Beijing's ass it's unbelievable. I'm watching "golden moment" right now, showing almost exclusively the medals China has won today.

*Sigh* TianTian...

Good luck for the rest of the year, if she doesn't end up retiring like Li Ting :tears:

If Tian Tian had been punished for her doubles results, I would believe that she would not be the only one and that PENG Shuai would get her share (for her doubles and singles performances, more particularly in view of the earlier "discussions" with the CTA).
I have not checked : is PENG Shuai still participating at the USO?

Yes indeed.

Why would Sun Tian Tian get punished, and Peng Shuai be allowed to play at the US Open?

I would rather believe that Tian Tian withdrew on her own.

Ellery
Aug 22nd, 2008, 08:29 PM
Especially given that Shuai is a weaker doubles player than Tiantian.

As far as I am concerned, for a typical doubles loss, Shuai should shoulder 60% of the blame and Tiantian 40% :ras:

OK it's rant & rage time!!:fiery:
I think the CTA have screwed poor Tian Tian! Howq can you just abandon a player who has won a singles title and doubles titles on the WTA tour and has also won an Olympic Gold medal and a Grand Slam mixed title. TT may be flakey at times but you don't win all that by being lucky!!?!
The CTA cost the Chinese girls gold at Beijing by having all the players go to a bootcamp after Wimbledon..WHY?!!! Camps work in Table tennis and badminton as you have 90% of the worlds top players there but with all due respect to Li & Jheng, they're not at the top of the rankings!
I hope TT caries on at least in doubles as surely the CTA can see that she could mentor some of the young players comming up.
It's a pity she's married to a CTA coach as I would suggest she do what a lot of table tennis & badminton players do and find another country who would want her; the LTA here in the UK, would fall over themselves to have her play/coach with our young players!!

CANADA8
Aug 26th, 2008, 11:39 AM
...and one last point! Why are all the coaches who travel with the girls male coaches who have never played at even challenger level? Surely the girl's games would improve with experienced foreign coaches!?! I mean what about Tian Tian's former partner Ting Li!? Surely her experience would be of help to the girls playing on the tour?!!:fiery:
(Ranting over!!)
Sorry but the CTA just seem to be screwing up their players futures!?!

Looking at her match stats so far in Tokyo, TianTian needs to watch her double faults and first serves in... she hit 5 DFs beating Hisamatsu 4-6 6-1 6-0, then 9 against Iijima winning 6-2 6-4. her percentage first serves are just above 50%. She's been good at taking bp opportunities, so as long as she picks up her serve she'll be fine :scared:

Poor TianTian losing in QF to JingJing. It's funny she thinks her best form was 2 or 3 years ago, i guess 2 years ago she won her singles title and beat people like Schnyder, but most other Asian players are getting better and better with age. Look at Na. With her concentrating so much on doubles pretty muchs ince 2003, she's never really given her singles game a go. She scraped into MD's and now rarely even into QD's. A very big shame. Hope she has a great 2009 and she wins the national games in China at the end of it :D  Will be a great feather in her cap if she can do so. But, the question is, who is her doubles partner? I say she should go back with Sheng-Nan :D

TianTian and Anna-Lena could not win a point behind their own second serve throughout the whole match, and could not convert any of their 5 break points in the second set. It's really sad and I'm glad TianTian now has a chance to see the city (Have youseen her new blog on WTAtour website? Swoon!) and i'm glad she reflects on her wins and losses and is still trying to improve but her confidence must just be so low, she isn't as fearless or aggressive as she was in her earlier years. Assuming Tiantian didn't withdraw from Pattaya qualies, she is in.

The last entry is down to some player ranked in the 600s, so :bounce: :o :p

:tape:

i think tiantian'll just play WD at fed cup if Russia led 4-0 or something, if both tied at 2-2, then yan/zheng'll play the WD :p like that year against belgium.
