Jan 19th, 2005, 11:42 AM
I went out to court 7 and watched this match today. Have never seen Ivanovic play before, infact didn't actually know much about her at all, except for the people on this board "hyping her" plus I also wanted to see Kirlenko play as I missed her match on Monday as the schedule was up sh!t creek in terms of her match been scheduled last on and I didn't plan on staying there late in to the evening, so it was good that she won (Monday) and I had a chance to see her play today.
As for today's match it was a one sided contest. I don't think Maria played anywhere near how she did against Serena at the French (the only other time I has seen her play) She doesn't seem to have a big game at all, her serve is about average (most can hit in the 160's) and she was overpowered by Ivanovic. I must say she was pretty impressive, she has big ground strokes and very good serve (in terms on power) Be interesting to see how she goes against Amelie, wouldn't be without a chance, of at least winning a set, however playing on centre court is a far cry from court 7 and few 100 people.
There looks to be some pretty good young talent around now, however after watching Nicole Vaidisova play on Tuesday, she is the player who appears to have the most potential IMO. She may not have played that great, however she has got the game/tools that is going to take her to at least the top 10 in the next few years. Hopefully she wins tomorrow and then can test herself against Lindsay on Saturday.
BTW I took some pics of both Kirlenko and Ivanovic today, however cannot post them on the site, as the files are too big. If anyone is interested send me a Pm with your email address and I will try and email some thru, this time tomorrow, when I get home from the tennis. Plan on watching Golovin and Schett tomorrow, providing I can get a seat on the court.

Go ana:) nice win :):)
Jan 19th, 2005, 01:22 PM
Well Done Ana! Great win! :) I was thinking even before this match "maybe Kirilenko will be a tough opponent" but not the way Ana plays just now!! Btw, Mauresmo was taken to 3 sets by Safina, so maybe it seems that she's not playing her best just now, and maybe Ana can take opportunity of this.
Jan 19th, 2005, 04:28 PM
Congrats to Ana on an overwhelming win against Kirilenko. I was hoping Maria would be able to give Ana a tough match if not beat her. And it was a somewhat tough match for a 1 and 1 score because the match lasted an hour and seven minutes and 1 and 1 matches in women's tennis usually only last about 50 minutes. But Big Ana at 6' and 160 pounds is simply too big and too strong for Little Masha. And her dominating 35 to 10 winners total over Kirilenko advantage bears out. I keep hoping Masha will turn it around and play well for an extended period of time. But everywhere she turns there are big girls who can bash the ball and trouble her. :(
Good luck to Ana against Mauresmo. :)
Thanks for the report ajay.
Jan 19th, 2005, 05:48 PM
Well done Ana!! Now beat Mauresmo!! ;) (Even I don't dare to bet on your again!) ;)
Jan 19th, 2005, 06:36 PM
Go Ana, they better show her vs. Mauresmo on ESPN. Mary was hyping her when the result was shown on TV. I have a feeling they will show this match!
