The qualifying for this tournament in Cholburi, Thailand started today.

The top two qualifying seeds, Lukaszewicz and Kersten (both AUS) got byes. Hannah Grady and Daniella Dominikovic beat local players 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 respectively. The shame is that they'll have to play each other to decide who qualifies for the main draw

The other Aussie (Giltinan) in the qualifiers also won

anyone got info on hannah? I really hope Daniella takes this opportunity..shes played a fair amount of itf the past few weeks and is overdue IMO for a few good wins ;):)...Hannah should be tough judging from the scores tho

Olivia should qualify hand down , easily...she's just soo intense and mentally tough :)

well done Daniella ;)
bad luck Hannah, she has some potential :) but being Brit #1 isn't too hard to achieve.

Just hope there were some GB girls in top 100 then we wouldnt have to see Tim all time :p

I think part of the problem is that most of the British juniors just play in domestic non-ranking tournaments most of the time. Is this short-sightedness from the LTA? Very possibly

Only the top 3 or 4 play in international tournaments. Compare this to say, Russia which has lots of players on the circuit. The LTA should also promote more international junior tournaments itself. If you look at www.***************** compare the number of international events listed for the UK compared with other major countries. Guess what! The comparison is not favourable.

I agree bluepastures,

I think the British girls need to start competing more against players from other countries, because playing against eachother isn't enough. There really aren't any largely hyped players for the UK right now, and some of the more recent hopes have faded mainly to the same level of some of the more highly established veteran players for them. If they are showing signs of early talent, the only way to keep improving is to work against the better players. By playing against the same level it's hard to really improve a whole lot or match up against a higher level of player and by playing more internationally, it could give them a chance to at least guage where there games are really at with the top juniors and see what parts of their game need to be worked on.

Well, Malaysian tennis has taken a bit of a back step nowadays but Khoo Chin Bee is still the top player !

PolishProdigy...youre right i think she is Polish background

i saw her quaterfinal win and semifinal win over Dominikovic in Wollongong a few weeks ago..she plays unorthox with two hands on both sides like Monica Seles, but it isnt a power game ,she relies on speed and good precision.....she imparts a good deal of topspin on her flairsome strokes!

i think shes just like 13?...btw she won Adeliade(grade5 itf) , Wollongong(grade5 itf) and made the semis in Indonesia(Grade 3)......now shes kicking butt here in a Grade1! Its been a very solid start for her! her first ITF tournament was in adelaide where she was UNRANKED and withint two weeks she had TWO tourneys under her belt and a top 200 junior itf ranking :bounce:
