what do you mean with "and it wants you to go out to CM by all means"??.

Well Lena's also not so popular here (In Holland) becuz there are some sports and Dutch Sportsman that are far more popular then Lena, but as you can see there are some Dutch Lena fans on this board (including me), at least i'm more a bigger fan of Elena then the most famous Dutch swimmers (Inge De Bruijn and Pieter van den Hoogenband, sure i am a big fan of them but i'm just a more bigger fan of Elena then them ;))

BUT, once my cousin said to me that she was in scholl when she heared a girl said for a friend (thos girls are close to my cousin): "OH, I think i'm in love for a woman tennis player here. Did you ever saw Dementieva playing?"
(my cousin almost jump when she hear that name)
the other girl: "Hum (lookis like a litle confused) I don't watch tennis"
the Lena girl: "Oh  You should see. Dementieva is an amazing player. Me and my dad was watching and she realy is amazing"

After that my cousin realise that isn't just me that love Lena  :bounce:

Well I can say that in France they have a lot of people who love Elena. She is very popular, also because french love people who are fighter, nice and funny like her, she is the type of sport women that french love. And also she speak a very very good French so it's help to for a popularity and for journalist who love to speak with in French, and oh yes she is quite friend with some french player and they are few french sport women and men who love her so it's also help.

Well, Elena's reasonably popular, but not huge like in Russia or France, or even America... But everybody knows who Sharapova and the William's sisters are, though they don't necessarily like them. We're really big on humility here, so that's why we tend to dislike Serena and Maria, because they're arrogant.

Only tennis people know about Elena, but generally, she is well liked, because she's more reserved and tends to keep her head well on her shoulders.

Yup, that's true, but ES is sometimes too weird, for example switching from the Lena D - Vera Z. match on the USO 2004, to the Roddick - Canas match when the Lena D match was more interesting :(  :fiery:

Btw pls call me Northa, it's easier to call me this so you won't have to pronounce my full username and also my nick around the board.... ;)

In Russia Lena isn't popular more than other Russian girls. THis is understanable. However, in many books (particularly, in mine she's NUMBER 1)

Well in the UK amongst tennis fans she is well liked and pretty well known ,but with non tennis fans and just Wimbledon viewers she is not as well known ,but those who have seen her all fall instantly in love ,cant think why ,haha , and i feel she is becomming more well known now as she has been to two GS finals and many semis etc so mor epeople are seeing her ,we have the same problem as most of u ,womens tennis can often get short thrift on tv and god knows how many times I have had to endure a boring mens match between two hairy assed unkowns when a good womens match has been on!! Grrrr!
Elena touches all who get to see her and makes new fans easily ,I have a friend who has never seen her play but he has seen her pictures on my office wall and is now totally smitten!!
So The SS Dementieva has a job to do!! Let the world know we are comming!!!

Elena's popularity has soared since her 2 GS finals. I think she may still be seen as one of the Russians, but a more recognised Russian.

In Germany Lena isn't very popular. But this is because generally tennis isn't so popular here since we haven't got that successful players like Graf or Becker any more. There are not so many people in Germany who are interested in tennis. Only they know Lena, I think.

I only have a vague idea in UAE. Shenever came to Dubai, so I never saw their reaction. I guess she's not too popular, just like Nastya.
BUT, I was amazed when two of my class mates started talking about her to me. And they aren't even tennis fans.

There isn't much womens tennis shown on TV here, only grand slams are shown. Plenty of ATP though. Only the so called big players get shown, (if you have won a grand slam) So if we want to see Elena she has to either make the 1/4 finals or draw
a big seed early to have her match televised. I still remember the 1st time i saw her about 5/6 years ago, couldn't take my eyes of her. More Wta please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I have a sneaky feeling that in some years we can all see Elena being popular in India. She has an incredible game..and with kids(girls) taking up the game seriously the chances are very bright. She has got to Kick Start the wave by bringing back to her mother the Coveted Grand Slams..starting from Aussie Open, obviously!

No, but I've been in and around Cape Town. It's great there! The landscape is beautiful and most people are really nice. I liked it very much. But the poverty in the townships is alarming!

Amazing Elena

Not succesfull players??
Rainer Schuttler had a fantastic season 2003
Tommy Haas is the former number 2 of the world and will be for sure back in the top 10 this year.
And Nicolas Kiefer is also doing very well the last year.

A lot of countries would be jealous on those kind of players

I didn't say the german players aren't successful. I said they are not as successful as Boris Becker or Steffi Graf with which they are always compared. That's a difference!
