Good old TVNZ the tennis is starting an hour earlier (weather permitting) and what are They doing to compensate for that? they are not starting for an hour later! amd what are they showing? The Young and the Breastless!
in Their defence I suppose this coverage was designed for semi finals day, and they might rearrange Their coverage times, and it might piss down all day anyway , They were just talking about maybe using Sunday to catch up.

looks that way. the reserve day on sunday is almost certain to be used now, which is going to be a problem as asagoe and frazier both have commitments in hobart on sunday.
personally i feel they should just play the quarterfinals indoors today, but the organizers are hell bent against doing so, so it looks like this doubles match is all we are going to get today, unless some miracle happens and the weather clears.
of note in nz, the weather in christchurch is brilliant, not a cloud in the sky, beach weather! nearly everytime there is a major event in auckland weather dictates proceedings!

they are probably not allowed to because one of the matches has already started in the current round and from memory all matches in the same round have to be played on the same surface etc and you are not usually allowed to change when it gets to qf stage and onwards

well that is an itf rule anyway don't know if its same for wta events

you guys should get a giant sail like we have at the gold coast then you wouldnt have any trouble

in 20 minutes a decision about the future of the tournament will be made. radio announcer believes changing venue to north harbour where there is a tennis centre - with a roof, simillar surface to the courts being played on at this tournament.
as rain is forecast for today and tomorow, very little prospect of play today.

Experimentee
Jan 7th, 2005, 02:18 AM
I've heard before that matches from ITF events have been moved indoors due to bad weathrer, even though they started outdoors. So there is probably not a rule against it. In this case it would be the best thing to do :(

decision has been made:
at 4:30 asagoe v huarova will be played at the north harbour tennis centre under roof.
if still raining, they will shift the other 3 quarter finals to north harbour.
trying to get all semis and finals completed tomorow.

**organizers very reluctant to do this, there are no facilities for spectators, media, corporates, however organizers are desperate to get some results.

Yes, she is well on her way...she and Francesca were the best doubles team when I saw this them about this time last year. With her one handed backhand, and Francesca's footspeed and two handed approach, they make a good team. Yes, she is well on her way...she and Francesca were the best doubles team when I saw this them about this time last year. With her one handed backhand, and Francesca's footspeed and two handed approach, they make a good team. Let's hope that their wins over Corina/Jill and now Teryn/Laura give them confidence for the final. :worship:

Is there archieved video for that?
i would imagine there could be some on the tvnz website tonight/tomorow

Baker Into Doubles Final
7 January 2005

New Zealander, Leanne Baker, who celebrates her 24th birthday tomorrow (Saturday), and her Italian doubles partner, Francesca Lubiani, are through to the doubles final at the ASB Classic.

Their semifinal opponents, Lina Krasnoroutskaya and Janette Husarova, had to default after Husarova sustained a stomach injury in her quarterfinal singles match against Shinobu Asagoe.

This will be Bakers first WTA Tour doubles final, but it will also be Lubianis first WTA Tour doubles final and she said the extra rest they will get as a result of the default is much appreciated. Its good because we had a really long match today and now we can recharge ourselves, said Lubiani.

Earlier in the day, Baker and Lubiani gave the crowd something to shout about when they won through to the doubles semifinals. Baker and Lubiani won a pulsating quarterfinal match against American combination Teryn Ashley and Laura Granville 7-5 6-7(2) 7-6(3) in just under three hours.

Your are still on the job :) just came back in and radio sport are doing the decent thing!
Its been very interesting talkback all day! The good book discussion has continued, there has been shitall bowls coverage, and one caller just rung up and told Willie Lose that he 'speaks a lot of waffle'. What can i say, its been a pretty action packed day on radio sport!
