Really a story of missed chances for Meghann. Couldn't convert many break points or hold points. Had many games on her serve which she had points for, and just couldn't hold on.

Congrats to Daniela.

Slovakia isn't out of the woods yet. If James Blake wins his match then it all comes down to doubles. The US still has the ability to go up 2-0.

Andrew.. Meghann only had 3 Bp's.. 1 in the second game which she didnt convert and 2 at 3-4 and she converted 1. I dont think that is too many missed (1-3). Daniela on the other hand could of ended the match much earlier as she was like 4-15 on Bp opportunities

We dont know if they will even have Mixed since Meghann rolled her ankle in the second set and wasnt running for balls

daniela was by far the better player. she made a string of errors in the opening games but served well and from then played great

We dont know if they will even have Mixed since Meghann rolled her ankle in the second set and wasnt running for balls

That would explain why she played the way she did in the second set. If it was really serious, I don't think she would have continued, but we will have to see. If the US has to default their doubles match, they may still have a chance at the final as it is unclear if Mark can continue for Australia on Friday. His injury is more serious than Meghann's.

Stats say Daniela 4-10 break point opertunitys Meghann 1-3.. If you read my original post, I stressed the unconverted game points on Meghann's own serve. That's what did her in. And Hantuchova broke in every game she had a chance to, again as I said earlier.

Yes, we got to see it. She looked great, nice athleticism. Sweet winners both forehand and backhand side, served well, had a few hiccups but did not lose her nerve. She is in great shape and was very relaxed and confident in the post match interview. :D

Daniela played very well today. Dani fans should be very happy with her performance. If she had less errors in the forst set she'd have won by more.

if you read my original post you will see that daniela was hitting winners on those game points. meghann was solid throughout the first set but daniela was hitting big winners and serving too well. meghann saved about 5 break points with big serves

Thanks TFan, is there a noticeable change in her speed around the court. I hope she's alittle quicker since she's obviously gotten fitter :wavey:

Definitely! It was like watching a different player, at least as opposed to the indoor season. She was getting to every ball she should have gotten to, hitting good offensive shots on the run. Her build is ideal now, toned, not too muscular, just right for her frame. She also seemed on a mission, pumped herself up a lot, never lost concentration...

Meghann's slight ankle injury had nothing to with Dani's win. Up to that point (which was near the end of the match) they were playing on fairly even terms but Dani clearly and consistently had the edge. The injury hardly hampered Meg's movement at all, and the result would have been almost exactly the same if it hadn't happened. At most, Meg might have won an additional point or two but probably not any more games.

That is not to say that Meg will definitely be okay for the mixed doubles match. Once she cools down, her ankle might hurt a lot. I hope she'll be okay.

[b] Great news. All the things u mentioned, I was hoping for this year. I know some think I'm being to picky when talking about her movement, but if she's improved it like, like it seems it has thats a huge plus. Also it's great that she was concentrated. I think she really wanted to win those two prior matches. Especially the doubles, and said to herself, I'm not losing this one. At least it seemed like that:) To me that shows she's detemined :) :bounce: :worship:

U.S. Very entertaining match. Slovaks had 5 match points but could not convert them. Fell down 9-4 in the deciding tie break. Closed to 9-7 then got finished off. Dani played quite well. James and Meghann did not find their game until the second set...
