Apparently most of the firms are chicken and afraid to put
up the odds; but [Betting Zone] based in Australia has come up
with this. It's obviously based on reputation right now; but still
rather amusing.

Outright winner

Serena Williams 4.50
Justine H-H 4.50
Amelie M 5.50
Lindsay D 7.00
Maria S 7.00
A. Myskina 10.00
Venus W 15.00
Sveta K 17.00
Jennifer c 21.00
Alicia Molik 21.00
Elena D 26.00
Elena Bovina 51.00

Interesting. I would have thought the serious money would have started flowing by now. Meaning those are real good odds to take Sharapova on, and not good at all for Henin-Hardenne.

Well..the betting theory is to push for the one's with the
worst odds and score big. The men's odds/bets are getting
a bigger response because it's pretty much understood that
it's Roger's at 1/1; so people are giving in for
the long shots which looks to be about everyone else!

The women's draw is so wide open, they can't get too much
bets happening. One web site encourage punters to select a non
name/star. :tape: Another site posted that head to heads
in the women's draw don't mean anything either; because of
the totally unexpected outcomes at the 4 GS's last year, YEC and
the Olympics. Current form doesn't even seem to be a good
barometer. :tape:

Well....there's a sucker born every minute. :tape:

Serena has been on the top of bookmakers for 4 grand slams
last year! Justine was also up there on the bookmakers
list for AO, RG and the US OPEN for 2004.

I suppose their respective personal agents would be proud
because the perception is that every final should be
Serena-vs- Justine. :p :smash:

The ratios say that if Justine or Serena are in the semi's
it's a 50/50 chance that one of them is the winner regardless
of who the other players are.

You have to at least say the bookmakers aren't big on
bandwagon hopping. I can't believe how low
ED and Sveta rate? and how high Venus is listed???

Elena D's odds are amazing. Great value. The first three I think will mostly be taken by suckers who look at reputations rather than recent form/grand slam choking

i think they have to do some adjustment on LenaD odds

Lena just defeated the third hot Maria Sharapova!

I'd bet on Lindsay, Maria or Anastasia .. I think they're more likely winners than Justine, Serena or Amelie.

Particularly if you note the first 4 people in the odds are injured, Elena has the recent H2H over Sveta and Momo and Maria and elena made 2 GS Finals last year which is more than anyone above her. Actually the odds on any of the Russians are good - you would have thought people would learn.......

i'd take maria or elena at those odds. i really don't think mauresmo is a 3rd favorite to win any slam. if lindsay wasn't injured she'd be my bet.

I'd take Lena D. Especially if her served has improved. Best value I think.
