It turns out that Lindsay's knee was not injured at all last week. She withdrew from the Hopman Cup because of shoulder soreness.

Although I was desperate to see Lindsay playing Hopman, if she pulled out in precaution an is in tip top form for Sydney, it may well be a blessing in disguise. I can't wait to see how's she is playing and hopefully she'll be fresh and hungry.

lol she should be arriving on Thursday or Friday here - I'm hoping it's Friday so she wanders down to the practice court when I'm there *g*

If I get a chance to see her play in any of the tournaments I'll take photos :)

ETA: Regardless Lindsay will find she'll have extended her gap at the top of the rankings after the Medibank International (aka Sydney International) because Amelie's not playing in the tournament.

I don't know if this has been posted or seen already, but these are the players from the top 10 who have entered:

Lindsay Davenport 1
Anastasia Myskina 3
Elena Dementieva 6
Justine Henin-Hardenne8
Jennifer Capriati 10
Vera Zvonareva 11
Nadia Petrova 12
Alicia Molik 13
Patty Schnyder 14
Elena Bovina 15
Paola Suarez 16
Ai Sugiyama 17

I quite like the look of this field, although Myskina could be the only major problem and we don't know what sort of form Henin-Hardenne is in.

What do you think?

Jan 6th, 2005, 12:32 PM
Jen's got a major injury cloud over her - she has told organisers she will let them know by Friday night (tonight) as to whether or not she will be in the draw.

The major concern in there for Lindsay will be the side of the draw Alicia's in - Alicia is playing very well on the Hard Courts here in Australia at the moment.

Sharapova wasn't allowed to play because of age restrictions, but don't be surprised if Kutzensova plays, since there's been talk going around that one of the wildcards (the final one) will be issued to her.

Molik's serve is highly overrated. It's fast and has a nice form to it, but after a while the player reads where it is going and can hit it back well. Lindsay also has a 3-0 H2H over Molik, including their most recent meeting where Lindsay won 6-1 6-0. I don't see a problem there.

Kuznetsova hasn't returned any of their calls about a wildcard.

Andrew.
Jan 6th, 2005, 11:54 PM
I'm not really sure the shoulder wasn't "okay". ;) I believe Lindsay probably realized she had a stupid schedule, and had to cut something out. Possibly the shoulder was a bit sore at the time. ;)

It was actually her knee - she's arrived in Sydney. (http://www.abc.net.au/sport/content/200501/s1278118.htm) - there was a quite a bit of action at Homebush today since Qualifying got underway.

Lindsay was on the news before - well it seems all the media outlets got her at the airport :) She was talking about Australia and when looking back on the 3 GS wins the Australian Open title was the most enjoyable to win, etc.

Elldee
Jan 7th, 2005, 09:33 AM
I'd say Henin Hardenne was the biggest threat but if they meet I think it's vital for Lindsay to beat Myskina and restart her winning run against her. Molik is more of a threat than in the past but I don't see her pulling off wins against the very best just yet.

Andrew.
Jan 7th, 2005, 10:35 AM
Myskina is very beatable on an outdoor hardcourt. See San Diego final.

Out of all the players at the moment and with the crowd behind her, Alicia is the most in-form player on the tour - you can say as much as you want about her being a "one-dimensional" player - but the fact of the matter is - she just missed out qualifying for the WTA Champs last year, she's been in form for the last 6 months and she knows Homebush pretty much better than anyone else, since she practises there.

This isn't coming from just an Aussie, I'd love Lindsay to win before Alicia, it's coming from just viewing the form of Alicia in the last year in particular.

Only two female players went through the HP undefeated Molik and Myskina. But form can be different when it comes to outdoors.

In case anyone isn't aware, that may be of interest is this year the courts in Sydney and in particular Melbourne are slower than previous years.

So that will favour the Russians and also Henin-Hardenne.

So that will favour the Russians and also Henin-Hardenne. Molik won one of the msot fluke Tier I's ever, beating Sharapova. I'm impressed. And she didn't just miss out on qualifying. She was #13 in the race. Not close. Her serve is highly overrated. Once you read where it's going, players can hit off of it. Lindsay Davenport def. Alicia Molik 6-1 6-0. Next.

Everyone else was saying the courts were quicker.

gossipcom
Jan 7th, 2005, 10:28 PM
The courts definitely aren't quicker than before - they're slower - some of the Aussies are complaining about it.

Elldee
Jan 7th, 2005, 10:48 PM
I heard Mark Philipousus [I can't spell it], say it was a little faster but Lleyton Hewitt was complaining that it wasn't fast enough and a faster surface would favour Aussie, but you seem to know more about it.

Btw, Alicia was injured at Filderstadt and many games went to deuce.

I know Myskina is beatable, but she needs to be beaten to stop her getting too confident against Lindsay.

gossipcom
Jan 8th, 2005, 02:37 AM
Actually Hewitt was annoyed it wasn't fast enough, even Geoff Pollard of TA was saying the court was quick, but not as quick as he would have liked it - so it's definitely going to favour the European players.

I want Molik to play Myskina so she can show her win at the Olympics wasn't a fluke *g*

Andrew.
Jan 8th, 2005, 03:12 AM
Molik is not top 10 material. Big serve, decent groundies. Got extremely lucky at one tournament, inflating her ranking. Next.

I want draw. Now.

Andrew.
Jan 8th, 2005, 03:31 AM
Molik is on the bottom half of the draw, so the conversation is meaningless.

Henin-Hardenne withdrew with a knee injury. Capriati is also out.

Marc21688
Jan 8th, 2005, 03:33 AM
I agree with all the Molik "bashing".. I also think Justine has no chance in reclaiming her title..
Lindsay has a good chance, depending what the draw turns out to be...
Lindsay hits the ball cleaner then anyone tennis has ever seen and is very consistent which is why she is VERY hard to beat.
Outline:
Lindsay playing her worst: Can still manage a victory over ANYONE ranked above 50
~~~Playing medicore: Prob. wins against anyone 30+
~~~Playing Good: Wins against 20+
~~~Playing Really Good: 5+; depends how other player is playing..
~~~Playing BEST tennis of her life: Almost Unstoppable, only a select few can beat her..if and ONLY if they too play a really good game. ie/ Serena(doesnt have to play her BEST, she she does NOONE can beat her), Venus (can NEVER be excluded) and Mauresmo (would have to play her BEST tennis of her lifetime).

~~I plan too, once the Austrailian Tournament starts to analyze it and give you MY intake on it

The three players who have the most points to defend from the Australian Summer + Pan Pacific Open are:

Henin-Hardenne
Davenport
Mauresmo

Mauresmo will drop points for not playing Sydney, Henin-Hardenne is losing over 1200 points so depending on how the 16-20 ranked players go she could find herself close to being out of the Top 20.

While Lindsay has to defend SF Sydney, QF AO and Win PP Open.

Also remember Lindsay being no 1 seed won't get as many points as were on offer last year - so it means when it comes to Sydney and AO she'd have to progress further than the SF and QF to defend those points (and well PP Open is self-explanatory).

I 2003/4, Lindsay had real trouble with Clijsters and Henin Hardenne and although they are obviously weren't going to be as they were, as a Lindsay fan, it's nice to know that Lindsay won't face either of them... although I feel for their fans. I'm a bit iffy about the surface for Lindsay, but if she always expects another return and can hit the lines without tonnes of errors, then she should get to the final. Definately the semis with the belgians out and Venus nearly losing to Zvonereva. I REALLY don't want a Russian to win, the media buzz is so OTT, Lindsay is the star of the tour!

That's not difficult. And her Tokyo points aren't alot for a Tier I. With a stronger field this year, she gets more bonus points. Her #1 ranking isn't in serious danger.

2r of Sydney Lindsay will face either Nathalie Dechy or Lisa Raymond. That's a pretty tough second round. Both have given Lindsay some problems in the past, but if Lindsay is on her game there should be no issues. Projected QF opponent in Ai Sugiyama, but I could see Golovin or even Stosur getting through that.

some interesting match-ups...Lindsay has never lost to Dechy (I think 3-0) or Lisa (something like 12-0) so if she's playing well we need not worry. It kinda sucks when Lindsay has to play Lisa since they're such good friends (and I like Lisa!) so let's hope that Dechy wins lol

Doubles just produces injuries. If Lindsay is really trying to stay in the best condition, she really shouldn't be playing it. I hope they don't win, because if they made the final and Lindsay also made the singles final, she'd be playing eight matches in six days, which isn't a good thing.

On the topic of her 2r match, I also agree with you. She's never lost to either, but Nat did have three set points on her in Indian Wells this year. And Lisa has taken the first set from her a couple of times in the past, but again if Lindsay plays well I don't see many problems.

Just to be official...Lindsay is 4-0 against Dechy with their last meeting in Indian Wells in 2004 where Lindsay won 6-2 7-6(4). Lindsay is 12-0 against Lisa Raymond with their last meeting at the Tokyo Pan Pacific in 2003 where Lindsay won 3-6 6-1 6-4.

This seems like a great first round match to see exactly where her game is. Don't you think?

Lisa started to play well last summer, just around the same time Dechy did. But yes, I think Dechy is in better form and I'd rather see Lindsay play her. That way, Lindsay doesn't have to play Lisa AGAIN!

Nathalie flopped in Gold Coast, so I'd expect Lisa to come through and I hope she does... that should be a good match for Lindsay. I don't see any real problems for Lindsay until the semis against [assumably] Elena Dementieva who will have raised her game since her bad performances at the YEC's. I doubt Lindsay and Corina will get past the first round going by their recent results, but I don't mind either way... I'd love to see the match against Elena and Ai though, although I won't as they never show doubles.

Another article with more quotes in. She's praising Molik and Sharapova so maybe you shouldn't read it Andrew.

Aussie ace 'can break drought'
PAUL MALONE
09jan05
WORLD No. 1 Lindsay Davenport rates in-form Alicia Molik a contender to end Australia's 25-year Grand Slam women's drought at the Australian Open.

In a purple patch last year Molik won 23 of 27 matches to rise to world No. 13.

And Molik's form has Davenport believing the South Australian is another left-field contender for a major – a year after Russians Anastasia Myskina, Maria Sharapova and Svetlana Kuznetsova were surprise champions.

"Maybe Alicia has her best chance here of the four Grand Slams," Davenport told The Sunday Mail.

"She seems to relish playing in front of her home crowds and not feel too much pressure.

"The way she serves and volleys, you'd think she'd have her best chance at Wimbledon – but she has always done well in Australia.

"I'm a big fan. She has a huge forehand and serve, and a great attitude and outlook.

"She won the Zurich title (in October), beating Sharapova, and climbed up the rankings.

"We saw last year that anyone in the top 10 or so can win Grand Slams. The three Russians came out of nowhere – although the players knew who they were."

Evonne Goolagong-Cawley's Wimbledon win in 1980 was the last time an Australian woman made a major final. It's been 27 years since a local (Chris O'Neil) won the Australian Open women's crown.

Davenport, top seed at this week's Medibank Private International in Sydney in which Molik is also a drawcard, said her troublesome right knee had recovered well after soreness forced her to withdraw from last week's Hopman Cup in Perth.

With fitness clouds over world No. 2 Amelie Mauresmo and former No. 1 Serena Williams, Davenport says the Melbourne Park winner will be the one who times her preparation and nurses her injuries.

Davenport said the sport's governing bodies needed to consider a shortened calendar. "We need to say: 'In 2009, we'll go from February to September'.

"We need two to three months off and now we get six weeks – it just isn't enough time to recover," said the 28-year-old American, bidding to win her first Grand Slam since her 2000 Australian crown.

Davenport considered retirement last year but a seven-title haul which earned her a sixth stint as world No. 1 has her thinking her 12th Australian Open might not be her last.

"My year was an amazingly successful one but I feel like I let myself down when I had chances (beaten in the quarters at Wimbledon and the US Open). It's my dream to win one this year."

Davenport expects Wimbledon champion Sharapova, 17, to make a charge at the No. 1 spot despite corporate and endorsement opportunities which have distracted many a young champion. "She is a beautiful girl and has a lot of outside opportunities. So far she has totally stayed on track."

What is it with the rest of the world that can't accept that Alicia Molik has the talent to be in the Top 10?

I wish Lindsay would not play doubles here but I can see her reasoning for wanting to get used to the court for her singles.

I think Sharapova will be the one to really get close to the no 1 spot. The Belgians are out of the Oz Open and there seems to be doubts over the fitness of Amelie and Serena. Jennifer could be a threat at the Oz Open if she has recovered her form and got over her injuries cause she never gives up as has been proved before!

I think Lindsay has a good chance of the title given her form and fitness stay ok.

As for playing Dechy, as she will in round 2, I can't make my mind up whether she would have been better off playing Lisa. However, I expect her to come through the Dechy clash.

Talking of Alicia Molik. I think she is great and she is one of the players I was definintely going to follow this year had Linds retired. Anyway, Lindsay is the one for me until she hangs her racquet up but I shall take great interest in Molik's progress this year.

Good Luck Lindsay and Lindsay and Corina in Doubles.

Sorry folks I couldn't stick around for the doubles, since I was already buggered by 2pm and the 2nd match had just started on Centre Court.

I will ring up Tennis NSW if you want me to get score updates (aka if the scoreboard doesn't work, etc).

What I did manage to get though is Lindsay's autograph at Fanfest - and since I was in the first 50 people I got the ATP/WTA media guide signed. So I took some pics at Fanfest instead.

*fingers crossed if everything goes to plan I should be able to see her tomorrow*.

Actually I kinda like it this way, Lindsay doesn't have to play doubles for the rest of the week and she should be adjusted to the court by now. Good luck against Dechy! :)

Davenport Signs Copies of Official Guide to Professional Tennis 2005

SYDNEY, Australia - World No.1 Lindsay Davenport took time away from her preparations for the 2005 season to sign copies of the new Official Guide to Professional Tennis.
Davenport, who joins ATP World No.1 Roger Federer on the cover of the 2005 Official Guide, signed copies for a long line of fans attending Monday's Fan Fest activities at the Medibank International in Sydney.

For the second straight year, the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour has joined forces with the ATP to produce a combined Official Guide. The 800-page ultimate insider's Guide will provide an even more comprehensive look at the players, tournaments, history and statistics that encompass professional men's and women's tennis worldwide.

Sydney is 11 hours in front of UK time this time of year, so 7.30pm match-up in Sydney is around 6.30am (11th Jan) UK time.

I don't think Eurosport are showing any live matches. By the way, has anyone heard of the new Eurosport 2 channel? Is that only broadcast on SKY or will NTL have it too? I ask because nothing is said in the articles on Eurosport.com

True. She came close a few times :)

Here's my match report (just posted it in the SI forum)

Okay my dodgy pics for SI are located here (http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v324/gossipcom/Sport/Tennis/2005%20Sydney%20International/) - they include yesterday's Fanfest with Lindsay and her match tonight.

Basically to sum up the Davenport/Dechy match.

Davenport had Dechy on the back foot from the beginning - Dechy won the toss elected to receive.

For the first few games Davenport was on cruise control (didn't lose a point on her serve) but mid-way through the first set, some errors crept in and Dechy pounced on them and the first break didn't occur until Davenport was 4-3 on serve - she went 5-3 and was serving for the set.

Also one thing Davenport had going for her was the net cord - 3 times it went in her favour and literally the ball clipped the net and bounced over - one of them happened on Set Point.

The crowd was definitely on Davenport's side but was trying to get behind Dechy to keep the match going a bit longer, etc.

Dechy came out firing in the 2nd set, Davenport came out with all her missiles misfiring - Dechy served first in the 2nd set and was 1-0 - Davenport went to serve and her service game was the longest in the match it went to I think 5 deuces - she was 0-40 on her serve, couldn't get a first serve in and then the big guns came out to bring it to the first deuce - Dechy had 2 more BP opportunities but couldn't convert them.

After about 10 mins, Davenport finally held her serve to bring it to 1-1 and then she immediately broke Dechy - it was as if the chances of the previous game got the better of her. Apart from that one break both players held their serve, both also had a few BP opportunities throughout the second set but noone could convert.

In the end, the better player did win on the day - Dechy played well though, it was also a match where there were more forced errors and winners than UE, which was good to see - I lost count of Lindsay's ace count after the first 4 *g*.

Davenport has a day's rest and then will play on Thursday the winner of Stosur/Golovin in 40 degree temperature (my guess is that match could very well be a night match again especially if Stosur wins).

Feel free to ask any questions, etc.

Andrew.

Wayhey, I'm digging the yellow and all the new Lindsay goodness! I'm so releaved she got through the first half.

I'm not suprised Myskina tanked because she wasn't challenged at all at Hopman and played badly against Dulko and still thrashed her or maybe she lost on purpose because she said she'd wished she'd gone into the Open fresh?

Actually it was Myskina's fault with her tanking.

What she did was as a smart person would do *not!* - was practice inside post-Hopman Cup.

So she had been practising on the indoor courts in Sydney and not at Homebush - so what happens she goes to play today and it's a tad windy and of course she's not use to the conditions and it's bye bye #3 seed *g*

But that's enough of Myskina and tanking since this is the LD forum :)

I love the yellow outfit too!!!! I hope eurosport will show her match tomorrow!!! Do someone think that playing in Sydney could be a misktake for Lindsay, especially for her knee, because if she goes through the final and wins, it will be great of course, but she won't be able to rest her knee for a long time. So can someone explain about that...

Leo_DFP
Jan 11th, 2005, 06:04 PM
It turns out that Lindsay's knee was not injured at all last week. She withdrew from the Hopman Cup because of shoulder soreness.
:hearts: *breaths huge sigh of relief*

Elldee
Jan 11th, 2005, 06:12 PM
I now actually think that she wasn't injured at all... she's basically said as much herself.

I don't see her resting her knee as that important as she doesn't seem to have had problems with it recently, she was just resting it for the whole year so I'm sure a week of singles won't hurt it and the benefits of confidence and experience with the conditions will help lots in Melbourne.

Leo_DFP
Jan 11th, 2005, 06:18 PM
I don't see what's so horrible about mentioning another player here, especially one that Lindsay has openly admired and credited. Maybe arguing over whether or not another player should be talked about in this forum for three pages is actually worse than simply talking about said player?

I'd like to see more clear pictures of her outfit, but I sort of like it so far. However, maybe the yellow top would go better with blue or black shorts (or yellow shorts with different color top). She probably has some color combos planned in the upcoming week.

I'm not sure if Myskina tanked or just got beat badly. I don't really care, either. She's a threat to win the Australian Open and Lindsay will definitely be wary of her after last fall. Different surface here, but it's still slow and beating her in Melbourne is going to be tricky, if she meets up with her.

Leo_DFP

Lindsay wears skirts not shorts, much sexier. She probably has the same outfit in a different colour like last year... I think it looks greater with her tan and hair and I like her hair on court with the clips actually.

I have no doubt Myskina tanked... people are jumping the gun about Peng, imo.

The first semi-final Dementieva vs the winner of tonight's match will be played during the day session - which means it wouldn't surprise me at all if either player retired from heat exhaustion (today the court hit 50 degrees and it's predicted tomorrow it'll be even hotter).

Yeah true.

Yeah sorry folks - I'm back home now - I found out the news 2 hours ago but couldn't tell anyone - managed to sell my ticket though :)

It was a very wise move by Lindsay though, more I think as a precaution than anything else.....

You see I'll picture this situation:

You have a bit of a cough and are feeling like crap, run down, etc (that could turn into pneumonia) and have to play tonight in 30 degree heat....

Then you have to back up less than 16 hours later in a SF (if you win) which will be played in almost 50 degree heat on CC.

If you win that SF you have to play the next day again in 50+ degree heat.

Now if that happens and you have a bit of a cough, the chances are you will make it worse big time - I actually tipped she'd pull out tomorrow if she got to the SF - so her withdrawal wasn't that big a surprise for me.

Think warm thoughts - she had a bit of a cold when she won Wimbledon *think warm thoughts* :)

I actually tipped she would withdraw tomorrow.... oh well, I was one day out :) I'll watch the news tonight to see her press conference, etc.

UPDATE 1-Ailing Davenport hopeful of playing in Melbourne
Thu Jan 13, 2005 08:55 AM GMT

By Julian Linden

SYDNEY, Jan 13 (Reuters) - Lindsay Davenport remained confident she would play at next week's Australian Open despite pulling out of the Sydney International on Thursday with bronchitis.

The world number one was due to face Australia's Samantha Stosur in the quarter-finals but withdrew as a precaution with the first grand slam of the season due to start on Monday.

"It's just one of those things where my throat hurts, it's hard to breathe, it's hard to talk, I'm coughing and my body is just below average," a croaky Davenport told reporters.

"It's not good and so I didn't feel like I could go out there and give any kind of match at all."

Davenport, who missed last week's Hopman Cup with a knee problem, said she had been feeling ill for a few days but it wasn't until she woke up on Thursday that she realised something was wrong.

"I was actually feeling a little bit better yesterday but when I woke up this morning I felt worse. I was really struggling for energy and catching my breath," the Californian said.

"It was just a little concerning because it's been getting worse over the last five days and at some point you've got to stop. I just can't keep running myself into the ground."

Davenport, seeded one for the Australian Open, an event she won in 2000, said she was taking medication and would try and get as much rest as possible in order to be ready for next week.

"Antibiotics and rest, that's all that will help," she said.

"I normally like to play a lot before a grand slam but sometimes you're just dealt with the hand you're given. "I'm thankful I have a few more days for it to hopefully clear but I haven't thought about it too much. "It's just one of those things that's really bad luck and I've just got to move forward."

******

http://www.smh.com.au/news/Sport/Davenport-pulls-out-with-bronchitiss/2005/01/13/1105582649296.html

World No.1 Lindsay Davenport said she would have to be in hospital to pull out of the Australian Open next week.

The American pulled out of her Medibank International quarterfinal clash with the Gold Coast's Samantha Stosur, 45 minutes prior to taking to the court, citing a severe case of bronchitis.

Speaking with a very croaky voice, Davenport said the progressive throat infection left her breathless and gasping for air after just three rallies in her warm-up.

"It was just a little concerning because it's been getting worse over the last five days and at some point, you know, you've got to stop," said Davenport.

"I can't just keep running myself into the ground.

"I tried to get through the warm-up and it was pretty obvious my energy level is maybe at like 30 per cent.

"It's just one of those things where my throat hurts, it's hard to breathe, it's hard to talk, I'm coughing, and my body is, you know, below average. I mean, it's not good."

Davenport requires bed rest and antibiotics to be any hope of playing in the year's opening grand slam at Melbourne next week.

She will leave a decision about playing until the last minute, but said her condition would have to deteriorate drastically to pull out of the Australian Open.

"I'm hoping it will not be a problem by next Monday afternoon or Tuesday afternoon, whenever I'm scheduled to play," she said.

"Unless something takes another dramatic turn for the worse and I'm in the hospital or something, I'm very hopeful."

Davenport's withdrawal comes just a week after she pulled out of the Hopman Cup in Perth with a knee injury.

Going into the year's opening grand slam, Davenport has played just one singles match, beating Frenchwoman Nathalie Dechy 6-3 6-4 on Tuesday.

Davenport believes the disastrous preparation could be a blessing in disguise, saying it may give her enough time to fully prepare for next week's Open.

"It should hopefully get better. The prescription is more antibiotics and rest. So, hopefully, you know, this all will help," she said.

"I normally like to play a lot before a grand slam. I'm thankful that I have a few more days for it to hopefully clear.

"(It) is one of those things where it's really bad luck, and I've just got to move forward."

Davenport's withdrawal paves the way for Stosur to reach her second semi-final of the year, after last week finishing runner-up to Swiss Patty Schnyder at the Gold Coast WTA event.

The 20-year-old meets Russian third seed and world No.6 Elena Dementieva in Friday's semi-final.

Stosur's walkover was welcome relief, given her busy schedule following last week's tournament at home with both singles and doubles matches at Sydney.

She has reached the semi-finals of the doubles, with partner Bryanne Stewart, after eliminating top seeds Lisa Raymond and Rennae Stubbs 1-6 7-6 6-4 in their first round clash.

"I would have liked to have played her and have another shot at her," said Stosur.

"An easy day for me won't harm me at all. I'll be happy to go home early and rest up before tomorrow.

"I'll have a tough day tomorrow and then obviously next week, so the more rest I get now, the better."

They just showed some of her press conference and practising on Channel 7 - you can tell she's not 100% - so I'm sending non-sick vibes her way :)

Will she be able to get over it by Tuesday/Wednesday?

Ugh, I'm really disappointed that Lindsay didn't play because I wanted to see her on TV... it's been too long, it was just getting to the heart of a tournement. Sydney is looking like a very typical tier II now.

I'm sure Lindsay will be in Melbourne, she wants it so much, but how well she'll be able to play is another matter.

lol it is looking like a Tier II tournament but it is still a Tier I and still has 2 of the top 12 players left in the draw :)

Apparently Myskina and Mauresmo are looking very fresh in Melbourne - one of my friends is a driver down there so is getting all the inside goss on all the players - while Sharapova is carrying an injury (noone knows exactly what it is).

I'm hoping the tournament director/officials will be kind and give Lindsay the Tuesday start that gives her an extra day to recuperate - there's no way the two no 1 seeds will both play on the same day - one will start on the Monday the other will start on the Tuesday - that's what they like to do - top half of one will start first, etc.

We'll find more out tomorrow when the draw gets announced.

Isn't Sydney a Tier II?

Apparently you have to register to read that article... it's not the one about Lindsay wanting lots of kids and the fact that she talks to her husband about retirement a lot?

How long did it take you to get over it? We can assume she's already had it for 5 days!

had a cold for about a week...then the bronchitious bit kicked in and with my inhaler i could breath easier after about 4 days....but mine was really serious....like i was rushed to hospital cos it was bringing on asthma attacks...like some one had there hand over my mouth i couldnt breath at all...i guessing lindsay isnt as bad so she should (depending what medication she is on) be ok in a 2-3 days.

Bronchitis, not good. I can't see her being 100% for next week but I am sure she will play if at all able. Does lessen her chances of the title though. Still we must remain positive, you never know!!

I made the error in my previous post - it will be changing to a Tier I status next year - well that's what the WTA officials were saying at the tournament when Lindsay was signing the books, etc.
