I did not think I would ever say this...but I sure miss Justine and Kim (and Venus playing at her top level and Serena playing at her best) for that matter...I cant wait for the true leaders of the WTA to take their rightfull place on top of the ranking and show the pretenders the door...

maybe they are... it's just not enough anymore to beat "pretenders":p

btw, it was kinda cheap to mention Juju and Kim for that matter.... everyone here knows you don't give a damn bunch of crap about either one of them. :wavey:

We'll see...Serena hardly played last year and still made the final of the YEC and almost won with an injury...:tape: So, maybe it is enough...

Naturally I think not, but it took me years to believe that Martina Navratilova wasn't going to retake #1 from Steffi Graf. Or that BJK wasn't going to retake #1 from Chris Evert.

I surely do miss those days, or even the days of Marti and Davy with the Williams sisters.

Those 6 players are truly among the greatest of all time.

If only they would all play like they once did.

(I know Martina probably will never come back full time if she even comes back for more than Pattaya but still, bare with me)

Wouldn't it be wonderful to see Venus/Serena/Lindsay/Martina in the semis of a major. I'd love it. I wouldn't leave the TV screen for a second!!

We already did:
1999 US Open
Serena vs. Lindsay
Martina vs. Venus

I do agree with you; those four in the semifinals would be awesome stuff. Lindsay and Serena have produced some great matches! Martina and Venus have had some barnburners as well.

I thought the Belgims were the pretenders, and we were supposed to be waiting until the sisters came back?

The tour is better when all the top players compete.

I too, long for Justine's return. Hopefully, she'll depart from her lying cheating customs.

During the days of '03 which involved the infamous 'hand incident @ RG & Justine's questionable injury timeouts in tight matches, I would have NEVER guessed that I could miss seeing Justine play on tour. But enough is enough, I miss her unique game, her great matches with the WS and even her press conferences and such. Come back Justine! The tour needs you.

Good grief! The so called hand incident is long forgotten by most everybody but some posters so bitter about a Serena loss. Give it up! It's old news, and it wasn't that big of a deal, it did not decide the tournamnet that Justine held her hand up to get re-set and Serena didn't notice and served anyway. Questionable time outs? She never took any more than anybody else, and they are legal to take, some she took only on the changeover, not disrupting play.... and you would think now that it's public knowledge that she had a virus that was probably plaguing her already during some of those matches that people would realize she needed to take them for various symptoms... such as the headache she had at one event (a viral symptom). I think it was only last season that Serena had a splitting headache and took a time out?

If you are serious about what you said about him not caring about Kim or Justine, I know how he feels. You don't appreciate a good thing until it's gone and IMHO when the sisters and Belgians are healthy and playing their best, they are the best 4 players in the world. I wish they were back at the top cause it just seems like good players are winning slams, not GREAT players.

Same here. I'm not a fan of Serena and Venus at all. But after seeing the likes of Masha and Kuznetsova win, I realized the Belgian/Williams domination ain't too bad at all. I call 2005 as the Pretenders Assassination.

The hope of every Justine enthusiast.

Unfortunately, the truth is captured in the best quality audio/video medium of the time. Aint going nowhere!

Your post would have been more convincing without the "so called". The world witnessed what you claim as a non-event. It places you firmly in denial, but fortunately, there are shrinks that offer services for what ails you.

Good luck & my very best regards!

Listen, I've watched pro tennis for decades now, since I was a little kid. I've seen numerous, numerous players hold their hand up to stop a serve, some do it right away in very obvious fashion because they aren't ready yet, some do it out of anxiety at the last moment, there is no proof that Justine maliciously raised her hand to disrupt Serena's serve, what purpose would that serve anyway, she would have to do it over and over again to really make any difference in the match, and of course no player is going to do that.
Serena didn't even lose a point because Justine had her hand up, not even a point. Yet you would think Justine ran over and cracked her on the head with a raquet by the reaction of some folks. You think her late hand raise was so bad, you must not have watched much tennis over the years, people have done worse, and not received hardly the attention for it. Justine's explanation "I raised my hand to get her to serve, and she served anyway" that's good enough for me, I've seen Serena zone in so much in her own world before she serves, other players have practically had to say "WAIT, I'm not ready". Justine's explanation is good enough for me, I could care less what people want to say that just can't take it that Serena lost that match. They wouldn't be nearly as concerned with this minor deal if it had been a player playing somebody else

Y'all sound like old fogeys still reminiscing for the days of McEnroe and Evert

You know, when Hingis, Davenport and the Williams sisters emerged... people said this about Graf and her generation.

The fact that you all can't deal with what might be a changing of the guard says more about your conservatism than about the players at the top right now.

matches on the radio, and only 5 countries were represented
in grand slams? :tape:

there are no "pretenders".. time moves on, and the best will falter and the next generation will appear... you cant 'expect the WS, the Belgians and Lindsay to be the best forever.
Otherwise, let's just bring back Young Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Seles and Hingis for some good old fashionned tennis.
that's be great, but that's just not possible.
all these young russians and young stars rising are the next generation. They might not be able to totally dominate like the Belgian and the WS did now, because the WS and the Belgians still have a lot of years left in them, but it will happen eventually.
by the way i do miss the Ws and the Belgians rivalry, and you include Mauresmo, Davenport and Capriati, and you have the best generation we have right now.
Unfortunately, it might never go back to the old domination pairs. Possible for the Belgians but I doubt it for the WS.

I agree in as much as I don't want the russians to dominate grandslams and eclipse the achievements of others. I feel that Kuznetsova was lucky to win at Flushing and the same with Maria at the YEC [but not Wimbledon] so I'd like to see Serena, Lindsay, Amelie or Jennifer to do well in Melbourne.

Someone who's ever watched Justine, Serena, Venus, Kim, Hingis, Graf, Seles playing near their best would undoubtly notice that the tennis level we had last year was far from outstanding.
Serena used to play near perfection, thrashing all her opponents in sucha bad way. Justine, Hingis were like unstoppable and played so smart and beautiful. Kim and Venus too seemed unstoppable by anyone (except Justine for Kim and Serena for Venus).

The way the Russians played last year is nowhere close to that. The way Sharapova played against Serena at Wimby was great, but not that excellent. Myskina and Kusnetsova didn't play that great to win RG and USOpen.

When Hingis came to take Graf's first ranking, when Serena came to take Hingis' place, it definitely was because those pretenders were at least as good as the "old generation".
