Tennis coach hits his pupil at a tennis tournament

MÉXICO, DF.- Tennis player Yun Jang Chang was crying hardly in a corner after losing her match at the International Cup of Casablanca by 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 againts american player Kristie Marcio, but that wasn't what caused her the crying. Instead, her tears dropped thanks to a slap in her face hit by her coach,Yung Liang.

But the abusing wouldn't consist just in the action. Some moments later, Liang took her by the neck with his right hand to shake her.

When the coach was asked by this behaviour, he just went straight ahead without saying anything, he just moved his head in a sign of denial. Liand was required to give an explanation hours later, but he didn't want to give any declarations nor even try to justify his behaviour.

The coach's fury came when her pupil, first seeded of the tournament, let blow a win that seemed near when she got to tie the match, which was dominated in the first set by Marcio. She started to hit very hard from the baseline moving Marcio from one side to another of the court. Marcio, who couldn't do anything, was showing signals of desperation by throwing her racket to the floor in many ocasions.

In the third and definitive set, everything seemed to be favourable to the chinese player, but then she returned to the court unfocused, hitting a lot of double-faults and inefficient services. That was used by the american player to go through the set without losing any game. Everything ended when Chan hit wide a crosscourt forehand.

This guy is not worth thinking about. His coaching career is over, possibly even his employment career, he may go to prison.
This is not the way to conduct yourself, ESPECIALLY NOT AS A COACH. I expect he is of very limited intelligence.

I assume they are referring to Chan Yung-Yan...

I'm sure such abuse happens more than we think...it's quite sad. She has a lot of talent too, rolling past many of her Asian counterparts quite easily, and doing very well for herself...Too bad there is this kind of pressure on her!

I think this should be the end of his coaching career. If he can't control his temper while working with children, he shouldn't be working with them at all.

I think assault charges should be filed also. To slap or choke a child (or anyone for that matter) over a tennis match? How fucking pathetic is that?!

I shouldn't have been joking about His Dickhead behaviour, It was more the way the game went after the slapping, similar to some Bepa matches after She gives Her foot a beating, but I was naughty so please don't slap Me!

Is the coach her dad? If so, not much can be done I suspect. How old is this girl? If this guy isn't her dad, her dad should kick his ass. I can't imagine finding out or seeing a grown person choke or hit my child.

She's 15 and top 10 in the juniors ranking.

Three, she's not from China, she's from Taiwan.

not true. ITF could disqualify this bustard. Or, at least, banned him from ITF tournaments. This girl would only win if this happens (in the long run)

and after she competed without him there she could go home and still get slapped.

How old is this girl? I sure hope she's almost old enough to seperate herself from this guy. Even if he were her father, surely this isn't legal? Taking her by the neck? I don't see how that could be accepted under any circumstance.

I feel so sorry for her. I hope she has friends or family that do not accept this type of behaviour in their lives. If she wants the abuse to stop (assuming it's not a once-off), she has to press charges.

Tough situation, but if you suspend him, you're also be suspending her.

I think there are things the WTA can do to ameliorate the situation.

The WTA should realize that young women and teens are extremely vulnerable to physical abuse. At least a young man can defend himself against a man 20 years his senior.

I think it's an ITF matter not WTA. Regardless, the man definitely needs to be banned.

If I know anything about victims of abuse, it's that she probably thinks she deserved the slap and that her dad only did it out of love and that it was her fault for not listening to him and making him angry. Asian kids are taught to respect and look after their parents and never question their actions or contradict them. It's a sad situation, but like Jelena Dokic, this girl will probably defend her father and continue to work with him despite the unhealthy situation.
