Shinobua def Perebiynis 6-4, 6-1. Very solid win against a tough player! Now she plays Shenay Perry in the second round who had a tough match in the opening round. Shino should get through this one fairly easily. She has a wide open draw with Brandi out! GO SHINOBU! GOOD LUCK IN DOUBLES TOO!

Great start to 2005!

Shinobu defeated Frazier 7-6(4), 6-4!!!!

She's in her third Final of her career!! This time she will be the favorite so hopefully she'll break through and win!!!!

She's also in the doubles final and might play her doubles partner Srebotnik (or Bartoli).

ALSO, MORE GOOD NEWS is that Shino will be a top 32 seed for the first time in her career. She probably would have been a seed without this win but now she'll probably be around the 30 seed. She is VERY close to crakcing the top 30!!!!

CONGRATS SHINO!

I've been a fan of Shino ever since she beat Daniela Hantuchova and made her cry at Wimbledon a couple of years ago :P Such a gutsy performance from an unfavoured player, I loved watchign every minute of that match! Really hope you win your first title and start your year as you mean to go on :D well done so far shino!

Hi im new and became a fan of shin-chans at the Athens Summer Olympics. She such a good sport and i love her smiles. I loved her and Ai at the olympics they played so well and looked like they were having so much fun and really enjoying themselves. Anywhoo I just wanted to say hello and ask if Shnobu has an official site and what is it?
BTW shes doing really well at ASB shes took the first set from kata.

Oh no! That was the closest Shinobu's gotten to winning a singles title yet!

At least Shinobu can walk away from this match and be pleased with how she managed to put up a tough fight and having chances to win the match as well. Better luck next time Shinobu! :D

And good luck in Hobart as well Shinobu ;)

Some consolation for us Shinobu fans:

Srebotnik does the double
Sat Jan 8

No 1 seeds Katarina Srebotnik and Shinobu Asagoe have won the doubles title at the ASB Classic in straight sets over New Zealander Leanne Baker and her Italian partner Francesca Lubiani.

Srebotnik and Asagoe won comfortably 6-3 6-3.

Srebotnik had a magnificent day winning her singles semifinal, the singles final, and the doubles final.

At least Shinobu can leave NZ with a winner's trophy (and cheque) in her hands :)
