I am happy because it will be played in Buenos Aires:D

Argentina's team will be for sure Paola Suarez and Maria Emilia Salerni for singles ( Mariana never plays it) and in doubles will be Laura Montalvo/Salerni or Suarez.

Does anyone knows who will play for France?

Lindsayfan

no i dont!i hope Testud and Mauresmo will be in the team! :)

Well Amelie should be playing, but Sandrine has a stress fracture to her foot, so whether she will be recovered in time, I don't know. If Sandrine can't play, I would guess that Virginie Razzano will also play singles. For the doubles?? I'm not sure - Amelie and Virginie, if Sandrine is still injured, or does anyone know if Nathalie Tauziat is going to play doubles, or has she retired from Fed Cup too?

Linnie
Mar 22nd, 2002, 07:45 PM
Hey, Lapin......you forgot Nathalie Dechy! ;) If Sandrine can't play (heaven forbid) then I think Nat will be the #2 singles player. Doubles I'm not sure of.

I saw Guy Forget last night.....I should have asked him ;)

Foretz is very talented....

Gus
Apr 2nd, 2002, 07:29 PM
I think Guy might trust the new generation and make Bartoli or Foretz play.
Yet we shouldn't forget Celine Beigbeder - who can beat anyone on clay... even though she recently lost against Suarez.

i dont think bartoli and foretz are ready for the Fed Cup.i'm pretty sure Guy will choose Amelie,Sandrine,Nathalie and Virginie.

Hey, Lucas, Could you tell me why Mariana doesn't play in FedCup?
Pitu and Laura have been playing together for a couple a tournaments, and it could be good to protect our first player, but... I can't see a doubles team without Paola.

BTW, have you ever seen play Gisella or MªJ. Argeri? It seems we've got a good future with them a Salerni.
Talking about DavisCup,I guess it will play the same team that defeated Australia, don't you?

¡¡¡¡¡VAMOS ARGENTINA CARAJO!!!!!

LucasArg
Apr 4th, 2002, 01:14 AM
Well, last year Mariana has played a lot of tournaments and was not able to play in Fed Cup ( against Germany). This year she was one of the captain's chances, but she is injured now.She retired from Miami 2-6 against Venus.

I hope Argentina can win against France, and hopefully Mariana will play in the next step:)

LucasArg
Apr 4th, 2002, 01:17 AM
Yes Central, I am sure Argentina will win in Davis Cup against Croatia. Goran is already in Buenos Aires, but he won't be able to play.

For Argentina Canas, Gaudio , Chela and Lucas Arnold:bounce:

Hi all, there was an article during last weekend on our local newspaper claiming that despite there is no official confimation, Amelie Mauresmo, Nathalie Dechy, Sandrine Testud and Emilie Loit were on the list for the hotel reservations.

For the ones who understand spanish or want to try a translation here's the link:

Scott, I thought Virginie was going to play also but she may have balked because of injury problems. Emilie and Stephane seem to both be playing well lately so I think we'll be ok. ;)

Well it seems the teams have been confirmed, according to our local newspaper again.

Argentina:Paola Suarez, Mariana Diaz Oliva, Maria Emilia Salerni and Clarisa Fernandez.

France: Amelie Mauresmo, Sandrine Testud, Natalie Dechy and Emilie Loit.

Lucas, here's the extract from Clarin:

Copa Fed.

LucasArg
Apr 12th, 2002, 08:06 AM
Well I see Mariana is playing. She retired injured from Miami so I though she was not an option.

For sure Paola is playing singles, and Mariana is the 2nd option. Salerni and Montalvo for doubles.

Probably Salerni could play if Mariana is not ready:wavey:

I am glad because I will be in the crowd supporting our girls:D

Thanks for the news guys :)

I am really interested in this tie. Namely because two of my favorite players are playing!..and against eachother :o :fiery:

Even tho Mariana is higher ranked, I think Argentina should play Clarisa or Pitu in singles right now...Clarisa particularly is in hot form right now! She is a good doubles player so they might stick with her in doubles as Mariana isnt so good in dubs.

This is going to be a hard fought tie, and I cant wait!

Good luck both teams, and Sandrine and Paola in particular ;)

LucasArg (or anyone): I need you to answer me some questions about this Fed Cup.
I suppose that it will be at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club, but do you know what time will the matches start? Is it the same for singles and doubles? I also think that it is on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Is it the same format than the Davis Cup? I mean, two singles on Friday, the doubles on Saturday and the inverted singles on Sunday?
I really want to go, but I don't live in Buenos Aires City, so answer this if you can.

Don't know about the time schedule but the Davis Cup matches on saturday and sunday started quite early, one at 12 pm and the other at 1 pm if i'm not mistaken. I suggest you ask for the time schedule when you buy the tickets, something i forgot to do.

Singles Paola Suarez y Clarisa Fernandez
Dobles Paola Suarez y Maria Emilia Salerni
Reserva Mariana Diaz Oliva

Nos vemos:wavey:

Did any of you guys read the local newspapaer? Mary is not coming, she will be replaced by Stephanie Foretz. I'm so dissapointed

http://http://ar.clarin.com/diario/hoy/d-04603.htm

IT IS IN SPANISH BUT YOU CAN TRANSLATE IT ON ALTAVISTA SITE;) CONFERENCIA DEL EQUIPO ARGENTINO DE FED CUP

It's in spanish, so try the Altavista Translator.

Y no paró.

Hi guys. I am just back home.:p

The matches were great.

Amelie vs. Mariana was kind of boring. Mariana didn't run enough and did not play smart. Amelie was erratic and did not play good either.

Sandrine vs. Paola was really THE MATCH. Both players hit deep and the difference was Paola improving her forehands, and being really agressive. Sandrine played fine, but too many Double faults and coudn't get her 1st service in.

Tomorrow predictions:

Paola has really great chances to beat Amelie ( if Amelie plays like she did today). Sandrine can win the other single match, cos I don't see Mariana in good form.

Also, the in the French team, you could see posters saying "NON LE PEN", specially for the foreing press.

The doubles player Laura Montalvo was sitting very close to me, and told me she was upset because she was not called to play doubles.:( She is a nice person, and we talked a lot.

I AM TIRED NOW, BUT I AM HAPPY WITH THIS TIE ENCOUNTER.

GO ARGENTINA, YOUR CHANCES ARE REALLY BIG:wavey: :bounce: :wavey:

Apr 27th, 2002, 08:48 PM
Lucas! It was such a blast, wasn't it?

I agree with you about the Amelie-Mariana match, it was quite boring, both of them played almost entirely from the baseline and with long rallys and only went to the net in a few ocassions, and what about Mariana's constant moon balls? Sheez! Amelie seemed not too fit for it at the beggining of the first set, then on the second i guess Mariana got nervous and didn't hit any winners, i lost count of the UE she made. Amelie called in a trainer when she was up 5-2 in the second set, some problems with her back, didn't look too serious though.

Now as for THE MATCH, Sandrine-Paola, man, they really hit the ball pretty hard don't they? Paola used a lot of topspin on her serve and her forehands became a deadly weapon to Sandrine, Paola hit a lot of winners while Sandrine tried the same, only making more and more UE, plus she got a lot of trouble with her serve, and missed quite a few smash shots, maybe it was the sun that was bothering her; she was also clearly pissed on some line calls, that IMO made her lose concentration in the decisive points.

Amelie came back by the middle of the match to cheer her up, so for those of you wondering if she was badly injured, i'd say no, she kept laughing a lot and sat barefoot, though i noticed she was hurt in one finger (yes i was THAT close to her), maybe a blister or something.

The crowd was amazing, just a bit rude in between serves, though there weren't many of us, too bad, and only a few French people shouting Allez Amelie, Sandrine!
Alejandro Gattiker (Argentinian Team Davis Cup captain) was there too.

What can i say? FWIW, i'm not a fan of Amelie, but i was surprised to see how different she actually looks than when you see her on tv or pictures, not as tall and big as i had imagined her and prettier. I was lucky enough to approach her when the match was over and was able to take an up close and personal pic of her, she was kind enough to sign many autographs (JOUISSANT IF YOU'RE READING, I'VE GOT SOMETHING FOR YOU PAL ;)) before she left. Stephanie Foretz is a sweetheart, she was a bit shy when i congratulated her on her win over Seles, she just uttered a very very shy Merci hehe.

My predictions, again have to agree with Lucas, Paola has a big chance of winning tomorrow's match against Amelie, i think Sandrine will be able to pull out a victory over Mariana, i wished both team captains had given a chance in singles to Stephanie and La Pitu respectively, oh well, we can't have it all. So my guess is that the final result will come out from the doubles match, it can go either way, so may the best team win.

;)

PS: I'll be taking more pics tomorrow so after that, i'll try to scan them ASAP so you can all enjoy them. Also, i apologize if my description of today's matches is not too god but my english is not so great when it comes to tennis.

VAMOS CHICAS!!

I really hope to see good tennis tomorrow. TOday the weather was fantastic, and we enjoy it very much.

I also agree with you when you say Mariana should not be playing singles. But I prefer Clarisa to singles and Pitu to replace Clarisa in doubles.

Maybe We'll see some changes tomorrow:angel:

saff, what can say? You're such a pal.

Thanks to everyone else for the match reports.

But I hope Amelie is okay. She's got so many points to defend in the lead-up to RG, I'd hate to see her injured. She needs to be playing her best tennis over the next few weeks to stay there in the top 10, or at least in striking distance.

ALLEZ AMELIE!
