Does anyone know Maggie Clay Season Schedule in 2003?
She's not used to playing US green clay...

Hope she plays more before Berlin!

 Maggie made a fantastic doubles tournament... With her South African partner they haven't lost a set in their wins over Vento-Kabchi/Widjaja, Jeyaseelan/Tu, Clijsters/Sugiyama ( :D ) and Kuznetsova/Navratilova. They will meet in the final Asagoe/Miyagi !!!

Win that HUGE title, Maggie and Liezel :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Mar 30th, 2003, 07:05 PM
They won 6/4 3/6 7/5 :D :D
Maggie and Liezel will have 377points and $55,000 more from tomorrow!!
Great week for Huber/Maleeva

Apr 29th, 2003, 03:29 PM
What a shock for me!!!

Maggie lost 6-7(0) 4-6 1-6

Apr 30th, 2003, 03:38 AM
I am amazed by this result as well! I was hoping for a Maggie/Iva 2nd round! What happened Maggie?

May 5th, 2003, 04:49 PM
I saw this match live in Warsaw . Parra played great . She hit first serve 160 or 170 km/h all the time   She is playing like Seles (two handed forehand) and Maggie just couldn't stop her . That was one of the best matches of this event. Maggie played well but Parra played like some from top 10 .

May 6th, 2003, 03:37 PM
Look at this   :o

A Parra[Q] v. M Maleeva[5] 6/7(0) 6/4 6/1

May 14th, 2003, 03:08 PM
hah :o

This time she was 6-4 4-6 5-2 up when something happened again!!
Maggie lost it 6-4 4-6 5-7 :o :o

but why do i write this

May 15th, 2003, 02:52 PM
NOT good, Maggie, NOT good... :o
I know clay is not her thing but to have leads and blow them against players she can beat...
One thing she does deserve is major props for her recent doubles play-she and Liezel beat Cara and Elena yesterday! GO MAGGIE

May 15th, 2003, 09:33 PM
Right, Grafiati ;)

Doubles wins make Maggie's season up to now... :)

May 17th, 2003, 08:30 PM
no... she said that she want to play 2 more years or more...

but I just saw she withdraws from Strasbourg  - hope no injury, but it is highly possible as she has to defend semi-final from last year

May 18th, 2003, 07:18 PM
I also saw that she withdrew... too bad, I hope she will be healthy for RG... I talked to Liezel Huber's coach yesterday and he said she will play with Maggie in Paris, so according to him Maggie is going to play.

May 19th, 2003, 08:59 AM
Go Maggie! :)

May 19th, 2003, 02:02 PM
Thank you, Grafiati ;)

Sep 10th, 2003, 07:10 PM

Sep 21st, 2003, 03:04 PM
Magdalena doesnt seem to be in top form and if she doesnt get many point this year indoors, her rank could drop to the 25 area, do you think next year, sicne she doesnt have many points to defend shell recover, keep in mind though that she wont be getting the great draws she was with the high seed, im hoping Magie will play a very solid indoors and do well at all her tournaments, bc she lost early in 4 last year, she could make up mscow poinas by doing well there!!! Go Maggie stay in the top 20 by year end!!!!

Sep 24th, 2003, 07:18 AM
just see what does Maggie say about Leipzig tournie:

- " i know the tournament very, very good, because i played here so many times and reached the final two times. i am espacially impressed from the change of the city. all the restored houses, the nice parks and the great arenas are just nice.

- the surface supreme court is good for me and i hope to win the tournament the first time, of course, but my opponents here are very strong.

Sep 24th, 2003, 09:18 PM
but if kleinova is that strong opponent??? i am not sure....

Sep 24th, 2003, 09:22 PM

Hello all,

Maggie is in Sofia now. I met her today
I was in a hurry & couldn't talk with her.
She doesn't look very well, it seems to me her face is
kind of yellow...
Tomorrow I will try to phone Julia & to ask her
whether Maggie is OK & where she is going to play.

Best regards all, Harry

Jan 6th, 2004, 08:55 AM
good win, but i doubt she can do much more than taking a set off ai.....

Jan 6th, 2004, 05:03 PM
crazillo, I expected from you more support for Maggie :o

Real fans support in tough moments !!

Jan 7th, 2004, 03:11 PM
well, i hope for sure she´ll win and i´m a real fan. but i think when you look on i think it was harrys´statement at maggiemail i have to say, realistic, she is not the favourite. i hope she´ll win, but i think she´ll have to play consistent and that´s not her weapon, for sure.

Jan 12th, 2004, 02:37 AM
Spikey thinks it's just mission impossible against Martinez

Maleeva's game simply doesn't match up well for her against the high heavy topspin and slice of Conchita, especially on a high bouncing surface like Rebound Ace.

Maggie isn't playing bad believe me.

King Aaron
Jan 12th, 2004, 03:52 PM
:o  Poor Maggie.

Jan 13th, 2004, 07:56 PM
As huge a fan of Maggie as I am, that result is EXTREMELY disappointing. To not even win a game against a mentally weaker opponent (however talented) is not the way to be. I can only hope Maggie finds confidence somewhere along the way this year.

Jan 14th, 2004, 08:12 PM
This was the second time Maggie loses 0-6 0-6 in her career and second to Martinez!

Jan 18th, 2004, 07:26 AM
To me, this was a huge shock! I had never expected this, but way to go for Conchita, obviously.

Jan 18th, 2004, 07:29 AM
Maggie plays doubles with Conchita at Australian Open next week  :)

Jan 19th, 2004, 04:23 PM
6-1, 6-0.... very solid performance against reeves! the draw is open because of petrovas´and dementievas´losts....

WHAT'S in a name? In women's tennis, the answer to that is "plenty" if the name is Williams.

There was a time when the same could be said, if not nearly as loudly, of the moniker Maleeva.

Which is possibly why five photographers, a TV cameraman and a hundred or so spectators found their way yesterday to far-flung court 19 for a women's singles encounter of scant significance in the scheme of things, but which might yet be remembered as the end of an era.

Magdalena -- "call me Maggie" -- Maleeva of Bulgaria, the 24th seed, departed the tournament at the hands of Petra Mandula.

The Hungarian prevailed 6-7 (6-8) 6-2 6-3 in a match littered with so many service breaks and unforced errors that it sometimes resembled a contest to see who could choke first.

Maleeva, 29 in April, revealed afterwards that she would assess her results at the end of the year and decide whether to keep going, or join her celebrated sisters, Manuela, 37, and Katerina, 34, in retirement.

By any standards, they are one of the world's most accomplished sporting families.

At different times, they all reached the top 10; Manuela at No. 3, Maggie at 4 and Katerina at 6. They won 41 titles between them; 19, 10 and 12, respectively.

They have been to Bulgarian tennis roughly what the Chappell brothers have been to Australian cricket.

With the older pair having settled down to raise families, Maggie has been doing it on her own -- even their mum is no longer the constant presence on tour she once was -- for nearly a decade now. And that's exactly how she likes it.

Being the third sister, she said, always meant there was so much to live up to; now there's no such pressure.

She is by no means the oldest player on the tour, but it's been a long, and hard, haul.

She turned professional on her 14th birthday and won the Bulgarian title four months later, breaking Manuela's record as the youngest to do so by three months. So she has been at it for more than half her life.

Given that her best is clearly some way behind her, you have to wonder why. There are two answers, the first of which could have been a Steve Waugh quote. "I have always believed I can improve," she said.

The other is that it's all a bonus now. Four years ago, she was out of the game for a prolonged period after serious shoulder surgery and feared she would never make it back.

She did, and lists that as the biggest achievement of not only her tennis career but her life.

"It was a challenge," she said. "I wanted to have a second career and see how far I could go. I never believed I could come back and get so close to the top 10. (She was ranked 14 at the end of 2002.)

"I had so many injuries that in the end I just told myself I don't want to be injured any more, and since then I haven't been." There's a name for that, too. It's called the power of positive thinking -- and it's kept a famous family flag flying.

Jan 22nd, 2004, 06:33 PM
i really had tears in my eyes after redaing this.

Jan 24th, 2004, 11:12 AM

You know that i like the black one from Australia more.... I am disappointed bc of doubles espacially! I think she blew a chance there.

Feb 10th, 2004, 10:27 AM

Sorry to get back to you guys this late...

Q You seemed to hit really hard against Davenport who has been playing well this week. What do you think the reason you lost today?

A The biggest difference was serve. Her service was extremely well. The huge difference between her game and mind was the percentage of service. I had a several break chances. Anyhow, the percentage of my 1st serve was not too bad. During the game, I was thinking to get the number up, and I had chances in rally, but I got pressure from her on my second service. She had a few aces in a game. When it was 3-2, I had a few winners, but I made an error on the big point. That wasn't really good. Today, she played some unbelievable tennis.

Q You don't really have bad head-to-heads against her.

A Actually, it's not really good. The last time I defeated her was in Moscow two years ago. When she's good, her service is good and she has deep shots. Today, I attacked first and I tried everything I wanted to, so I don't have any regrets. I did well.

Q We believe your ranking jumped up again after reaching today's final. Do you have any confidence of reaching top 10?

A I don't really care about ranking. It goes up and down. To me, it's more fun to win more games. In that meaning, I am satisfied to reach this final.

Q Your sister has won the tournament here. Any impressions about this tournament?
A Except for the years I was injured, I always come back here. Including the hotel, I am familiar with this area, so I am looking forward to coming back here. Even though I don't play well in Melbourne, I am happy to be here for this tournament.

WTATour.com Player of the Week: Magdalena Maleeva

TOKYO - Last Monday, a star-studded field was introduced at a press conference to kickoff the 2004 edition of the Toray Pan Pacific Open. At this press conference were the tournament's seeds for the Tier I event - Venus Williams, Lindsay Davenport, Elena Dementieva, Ai Sugiyama, Chanda Rubin, Jelena Dokic and Daniela Hantuchova, with two of the afore mentioned expected to meet in Sunday's final.
Though Davenport did reach the championship match, her opponent in the final, Magdalena Maleeva wasn't on the radar to emerge through the field of 28. But Maleeva's strong play not only put the Bulgarian in her 21st career WTA Tour final, but also earned her WTATour.com Player of the Week Honors.

Maleeva entered the final chasing her 11th career singles title and third at a Tier I event. Coincidentally, the last time she reached a Tier I final, 2002 Moscow, she was also unseeded and met none other than Davenport. Maleeva won that match in a third-set tie-break to improve her win-loss record against Davenport to 3-2.

This time, however, Davenport was able to even the series by taking the first set and easily wrapping up the match in the second set, 64 61.

"The main difference today was the serve," Maleeva said. "She served extremely well and I needed to increase my percentage of serves going in. I have no regrets with how I played. I tried everything I wanted to try. She played extremely well today and in the end she was just too good."

Maleeva began the week on a positive note, recovering from a one-set deficit to defeat Lisa Raymond 46 62 63 in her first round match. From there, Maleeva only seemed to get better as the week progressed – defeating Laura Granville 61 63 before running all over local favorite and No. 4 seed Ai Sugiyama, 61 61, to reach the semifinals.

Maleeva got a break in the semis, when No. 5 seed Chanda Rubin was forced to withdrawal before the match due to a left knee injury she sustained during her first round match – earning her an uncontested spot in the championship match.

The 28-year-old also reached the doubles final with Russian Elena Likhovtseva. Unfortunately, Maleeva finished 0-2 on the day, as the duo was defeated by No. 3 seeds Cara Black and Rennae Stubbs, 61 61.

to ghosts:

Feb 11th, 2004, 04:22 PM
Maggie Maleeva: "I still improve!"

Some highlights from her pressconference today ;)

- I'll play until the end of the year and after that I'll decide whether to continue my career or not. I'll play until the game is interesting to me. Especially after a tournament like Tokyo I feel like I'm improving and can improve more! My ranking isn't the biggest motivation for me. My aim is to win as many matches as possible. Of course, I'm happy to climb up to #21 because I'll be seeded at atleast the next 2 Grand Slams.
- Next tournaments: ANTWERP(!), DUBAI, DOHA
- The Olympic Games are priority for me because it will be my last
- I'll play doubles from time to time (??) with a last-minute partner. Doubles are no ambition for me. I play doubles to improve my singles game. I'm surprised that I played two finals already this year
- I played very well in the first tournament in Gold Coast. In Melbourne I wasn't that good, but I'm not sorry that I lost. Mandula played pretty well. I'm satisfied with my performance in Tokyo. In the final against Davenport she served very well, was making aces in every single game and put some pressure on my own service games
- Sesil Karatancheva is undoubtedly the best young Bulgarian player now. I understood she has played extremely well in the end of the last year

Feb 11th, 2004, 04:37 PM
мерси!!! :)))

here are pics of today's match ;)

Maggie won 6-4, 6-4 against Benesova. She played better than the result tells us because Benesova seems to play well, too. Now a very difficult task against Kimmie.

Feb 19th, 2004, 02:50 PM
Go Maggie :D

Feb 20th, 2004, 01:36 PM
Maggie will kick some belgian asses tonight
Just joking ;)

Thanks for being so nice to me :)

Hopefully we'll have more to chear for next week in Dubai.

Good Luck to all Bulgarian girls in the future

Feb 21st, 2004, 01:57 PM
ghosts, at least i slowly learn this language. very slowly....
but please speak in english so that i understand you a bit...

i think it will depend on maggie´s draw next week how she´ll play.

Feb 23rd, 2004, 11:28 AM
In the first round, she actually plays vs. Barna and leads 5 - 2.

Good luck! :lick:

Feb 23rd, 2004, 01:52 PM
She lost 6-2, 4-6, 5-7. I have to say that it was not good to go to Antwerp. Now she has no preparation time for hardcourts and to play in three days matches under two so different circumstances is just bad.

Anyway, get helathy soon bc of your cramps nad blister and good luck in Doha.

Feb 23rd, 2004, 02:53 PM
poor Magdalena! I imagine how bad is it to run out of power and let a crappy player like Anca Barna to beat you :o

btw, she should have played on Tuesday but I'm sure she said ok when the organizers asked her if she should play on day 1... anyway... Bulgarian story

Feb 23rd, 2004, 03:32 PM
Yes, Maggie is not the person who says no. Sometimes she must be a bit "harder."

Feb 23rd, 2004, 03:37 PM
btw, Crazillo, aren't you happy for Barna... she plays for Germany although she is Romanian? :)

Feb 23rd, 2004, 05:24 PM
I don´t like her. She I arrogant and I am half Bulgarian. If Maggie looses to Weingaertner, I am not sad but Barna is just an arshole.

Feb 23rd, 2004, 05:31 PM
is Weingartner nice? I remember some interviews on German TV with her after defeating Capriati last year :) ;)

Feb 23rd, 2004, 06:05 PM
Yes, she is a nice person.

BTW ghosts, how can someone become a WTAWORLD team member?

Feb 23rd, 2004, 06:15 PM
you have to download some software which will develop some chemistry formulas on your computer... Go to TEAM WTAWORLD section of the board to see more ;)

Thanks Sascha :)

good news ;)

Mar 17th, 2004, 10:36 PM
Maggie answered my question on her site!

From: Chris - Feb.04
Q: Hey Maggie! I've been a fan of yours for a while and I was wondering what is your favorite event and why?
A: I usually enjoy all the big cities like New York, Montreal, Sydney. I also like very much when tournaments are convenient and you don't have to sit a long time in a car to get to the tournament. But my favorite ones are those where I play well :-)

Mar 18th, 2004, 03:49 AM
nice answer ;) :)

Mar 18th, 2004, 07:48 PM
I asked a question, too. Was about Liezel Huber, but they already deleted my question.

Andy T
Mar 20th, 2004, 07:51 PM
Does anyone know the score of the final at mahwah NJ (A&P Classic Exhibition) 1996, when Maggie lost to Amy Frazier in the final?

Mar 29th, 2004, 12:04 PM
Hello everyone
Just to let you know that Maggie is playing today with Katarina Srebotnik
against Virginia Ruano Pascual/ Paola Suarez. Let's hope that she can stay in the tournament with doubles.
Go Maggie and Katarina :woohoo:

Mar 29th, 2004, 01:59 PM
yes it will be tougt task but we shall support Maggie exactly in such type of matches ;) :)

Good luck Maggs

Apr 1st, 2004, 12:31 PM
I wish you just the best. Take care! :) :D

Apr 2nd, 2004, 01:36 AM
Is everyone sure of Magdalenas commitment to Estroil? Any confirmation?

Apr 4th, 2004, 01:15 PM
Yes, it is sure I think. People said that in the thread Estoril tournament. Ask the poster via PN to be sure!

Apr 7th, 2004, 09:08 AM
She will have a hard time but...
:bounce: Go Maggie!!! :bounce:

Apr 7th, 2004, 09:14 AM
She will have a hard time but...
:bounce: Go Maggie!!! :bounce:

I was with Sprem at a nightclub in Miami the other week. SHe loves a drink and she goes off in the sack!

Apr 7th, 2004, 09:20 AM
That would be just like me, I also love a drink.

Apr 7th, 2004, 12:59 PM
GL Maggie. Do it!

Apr 9th, 2004, 04:44 PM
I think that Maggie´s season will be worse than the 2003 season. OK, she was good on HER surface, Indoors, but that´s normal. I think she´s still a thrad on grass and indoors, BUT on clay and hartcourt she made a step back since last year during the American summer circuit. This year she has exactly the same losses like against Asagoe, now against Jankovic and on clay nearly Randraintefy. I think she has to get more power in her shots, the time of tactical players is over now. Maggie has to realize that.

Apr 9th, 2004, 07:40 PM
Maybe she realizes that very well but that's her style...
She can not change, considering that she has played in some other way for more than 20 years... I think she is very smart and takes advantage of some opportunuties like in Tokyo...

btw, up to Amelia Island last year Maggie had won 317 points and this year she has already won 472... so I dont really think it's a bad season so far :)

Apr 9th, 2004, 07:52 PM
But Maggie lost not to players ranked in the 70´s. I think we can forget about the olympics, she´s no thread for more than one win on this surface. Sorry, but that´s my opinion.
She could take the oppurtionity bc of the surface, but a top-15-player should be able to do it more often!

Apr 9th, 2004, 08:28 PM
OK, dunno. GL Maggie anyways!

Apr 28th, 2004, 05:35 PM
Couldn't believe my eyes!!! :D

Apr 28th, 2004, 07:00 PM

If you're a member of the Maleeva yahoo groups then go there and check out the files. I saved it there. If it still doesn't work then you have to download windows mediaplayer (a newer version maybe?).
Finally a bit of attention for Maggie

btw, Maggie won 5-7 6-2 6-3 ;)
You are so right, guess I was partying to much to stay correct
Anyways today she lost big time to Venus  Venus was way too strong for her! Then again it was on clay so we don't have to take it too bad ;)
Did you see her press conference? I thought it was very nice. :wavey:

May 17th, 2004, 11:41 PM
After a ten-year long relationship with her boyfriend Ljubo Maggie finally will marry him on July 10th this year. The ceremony will be held in Sofia and be discreet. Maggie has already invited a lot of fellow tennis players from around the world. One of her bridesmaid will be Sonya Jeyaseelan from Canada.
This is all according to a bulgarian newspaper report published today.

Now we can forgive some of Maggie early losses lately. :wavey:
Unfortunately though she won't be able to play in the World Group play-off with Japan ( on July 10th & 11th )

Congratulations Maggie & Ljubo :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

May 18th, 2004, 03:22 AM
I hope Maggie will be very happy with her new life and with her husband!

Congrats Maggie! :bounce:

May 18th, 2004, 09:18 AM
Well good luck and congratulations Maggie :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
Sure hope too that she will have a good happy life with him, but then again a piece of paper doesn't change that much, so if she was already happy, she'll stay happy. :worship: :worship: :worship:

May 18th, 2004, 09:59 AM
 to Maggie. Maybe that explains everything!

May 18th, 2004, 10:18 AM
oh Maggie this time was coming :D :)
I wish you good luck in this new stage of your life
all the best and keep making us happy on the court some more time :smooch:

May 21st, 2004, 01:59 PM

Maggie has the most horrible draw I could imagine. :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery:  But...
I know she is capable of winning .

1st round: vs. Anca Barna - Depends on day and mood. If Maggie will go out there and fight from the beggining to the end, the match is her.

2nd round: vs. Marta Marrero - Hard to say, but I think that if her heart still says "go" she will pull out a win.

3rd round: vs. Farina - If she goes that far, Silvia is her slave. Maggie is better in every department.

My scores:

Maleeva def Barna 6-3 6-4
Maleeva def Marrero 2-6 6-2 6-4
Maleeva def. Farina Elia 6-3 3-6 6-1

Any further depends just on Maggie!

Remember Maggie, we love ya :hearts: !

May 23rd, 2004, 08:08 PM
Since Eurosport Germany has its own schedule and Maggie is on ocurt 3 with Dementiva and Srichapan (it should be broadcasted) I might watch her. :hope:

May 23rd, 2004, 09:18 PM

Bracey, thanks.

Jun 10th, 2004, 07:17 PM
She should be experienced enough to close it out. really!!

Jun 17th, 2004, 07:49 PM
I suppose that means that Maggie won't play any tournaments between Wimbledon and the Olympics  :)

Jun 18th, 2004, 03:49 PM
Maggie decided not to play between Wimbledon and the Olympic Games. She really set her main goal this season for the Olympics and I guess she wants to practice really hard before it. She has her marraige in between it. Maybe she will play a minor tournament or something to get used to the Hard Courts. I hope she will have success on this surface again.

Jun 18th, 2004, 09:13 PM
well I wouldn't blame Maggie for that decision ;) :)
you know that she does pretty well after having a bigger rest period :D
so go Maggie and have the best of luck in Athens :)

Jun 22nd, 2004, 07:19 PM
Its finally updated. Some nice answers I think.

From: David - 25 May 04
Q: hi maggie, first of all good luck with the french open.now my question, which grand slam do u enjoy playing at the most & why?
A: I like them all. They are all a bit hectic and crazy and you try to spend as little time as possible at the site))

From: Naïri - 27 May 04
Q: maggie, I want to know if you have origins from armenia. thank you!
A: Yes, I do. My grandfather is Armenian and my mother's name is Berberian.

From: Steve - 4 June 04
Q: HEY MAGGIE, you're a legend on court, and have been for years. I was just wondering, for you personally, what do you think has made you a GREAT tennis Player and a force in women's tennis for so long. What do you think in your game is your strong point that has allowed you to beat such high tennis players so consistently????
A: Thanx. I wonder the same thing sometimes. I think I have always been curious about things and ways to improve. I have always believed that I am improving and there are things to learn. I have also had some very good advisors along the way. And I work hard too.

From: Jordan - 9 May 04
Q: Hey Maggie .. I have been a fan of yours all my life .. and I am only 13. I just wanted to know what it was like trying to practice when you were growing up since it was communist. We left Ukraine right after it left USSR and my sisters had trouble playing. Thanks and Good Luck!
A: Practice during those times was not difficult. My mother was the coach in the club and the 3 of us were always there. We never went to kindergarten, so we just spend our days at the club. The difficult thing at that time was traveling and especially for my mother and sisters it was sometimes impossible. Fortunately for me things were much easier and I could travel without problems.

From: Encho - 25 April 04
Q: Hi.I would just like to know which is your favorite male tennis player.
A: Roger Federer, Younes El Aynaoui.

From: Gav - 8 March 04
Q: Hi Maggie I have a couple of questions for you. Firstly, will you play Fed Cup and the Olympics this year? Secondly, do you believe the future is bright for tennis in Bulgaria? Good luck for the rest of the season!
A: I will not play Fed Cup this year. I will play the Olympics. I am sure someone good will come out of Bulgaria soon.

From: Mario - 16 March 04
Q: hi maggie: I wish you the best for you this year.;-) what do you think about the change the australian open from january to march?
A: I think this is the best idea in the last couple of years. Unfortunately it does not look like it will happen anytime soon and if it does become reality I will not be playing anymore.

From: Anton - 26 March 04
Q: Maggie,I know Kurt Vonnegut is your favourite writer. And which is your favourite book by him?
A: I like all of them and I actually would like to read them again. I love Mother Night. I also like very much Bluebeard, because at the time I was reading it I did not know that these are real painters. And I was playing in Chicago and went to the Museum there and saw paintings by Rothko and Pollock. Imagine my surprise. I also like Slaughterhouse 5. The ones I have some difficulties with are the science fiction books, like The Sirens of Titan

Q: Hey Maggie! I use the same racket you do and I was wondering what your favorite color grip is and why ? Good luck !
A: I always play with a white grip, because I think they feel the best.

From: Eef - 10 March 04
Q: I would like to ask a 1000 questions, but I can't come up with one, how weird. Anyways, how do you feel about clothes made of poor sweet animals???
A: If you mean leather, I try not to buy leather.

So sad....a loss to Angela, not even close, and she didnt seem to motivated. Hopefully she'll come back soon.
She has Filderstadt QF to defend, hopefully she'll get her points back during indoor season.

Sep 2nd, 2004, 08:05 AM
Sad loss, but she needs to wake up before indoor season kicks off.

Sep 2nd, 2004, 09:41 AM
it was a real nightmare :o
she must have a good rest now and don't play till Filderstadt :)

Sep 5th, 2004, 09:04 AM
I think it might have been her final Slam. The statistics weren´t that bad, but when they say she was uninspired in a Slam that says everything....

Q: Hi Magma! What do u do in rain delays like in Wimbledon? How would u describe your own way of playing tennis? What do u think about doubles withdrawals like with dokic (at wimbledon)?
A: During the rain delays I try to be in a quiet place and usually read my book. During Wimbledon I stayed at my house which was 2 minutes away from the courts.
I think I am an complete player that has a lot of variation. I like to learn and try new things.
Doubles is not a big priority for me and even though I like to play sometimes I don't mind having days off during Grand Slams.

Q: I want to ask you whether or not you hate Turkish people as an Armenian. I am Turkish But I love you very much. Thank you.
A: Hello my friend. I have been to Istanbul once and I loved it and I have met one of the kindest people on Earth. I would like to visit many more times.
Hopefully wars are a thing of the past and people will have less prejudice towards each other.

I always like Maggie :)

Oct 6th, 2004, 01:28 PM
She told me she is playing next year in a private conversation ;) :)
Dunno if it has been posted on the board already ...

Oct 6th, 2004, 01:51 PM
I once mentioned it, but I am still very happy to hear it from you.

I heard from Steve she entered Linz instead of Louxembourg and would skip Zurich????

Anyways, i will be in Stuttgart at the weekend and will meet Steve for sure somewhere there. Are you coming, too?

Oct 6th, 2004, 08:45 PM
Great :D :worship:

We could meet but in Stuttgart, not in Filderstadt ;)

Maggie told me she would play Luxembourg

Oct 8th, 2004, 08:21 AM
Maggie Will Play In Linz.

Moreover, I Am Waiting For Het To Watch Her In Istanbul Cup 2005

Nov 11th, 2004, 01:34 AM
hmm...5 losses in a row INDOOR!? and no wins over top 100, that's a pretty bad sign.
Maybe she is not retiring, but indoors season has passed, and it's not a good sign.

Nov 11th, 2004, 01:44 PM
She will partner with Federer's personal fitness coach Paganini, should be a good sign for a last, crushing year!

Cool! I hope she'll have a very good year 2005. :)

yes i am hoping for top 10 maybe in 2005

Nov 29th, 2004, 08:44 PM
top 10 wont be easy, I just hope she wont fall out of top 25.

Dec 5th, 2004, 10:51 PM
Go Maggie!!!

Dec 19th, 2004, 03:03 PM
Hey there,
what do you expect from Maggie in 2005?

Here is my expectation:

~ 1 title and 1-2 more finals and hopefully 1 GS QF, maybe at Wimbledon
~ top-15 ranking
~ more consistency and not so many first-round losses
~ no chokes
~ doubles: top-60 ranking and good play at a few events
~ a great, last indoor season to remember Maggie as a great player on her surface

But I guess it will not be like that, although she said she wants a last, but crushing year!

Dec 20th, 2004, 11:43 PM
I think she may respond well to a final season with the mindset of having nothing to lose. But then it may be hard to quit as we see with Davenport...

Dec 21st, 2004, 01:00 AM
I didn't realize that Maggie had announced this to be her last season? That's depressing, but I do hope she goes out with a bang then. A title this year would be great. I'll leave it at that.

Dec 21st, 2004, 02:46 AM
I do not mean to change the subject, but I truly think the great people of Bulgaria should place their hopes and faith in THE SESILATOR. Her great gifts and extraordinary athleticism are sure to bring glory to the nation. :worship:

We do it TFan, we do it. We don't forget Tzveti as well.

But  to Maggie. She is our sweetheart. The symbol of an epoch :) - the last of the Maleeva sisters. (btw Sesil has two sisters  )

But anyways, I wish all the best to Maggie in 2005. No matter what she does, I'll be OK. It's sad she think of retirement but that's how things work. The main thing is she seem very happy in her personal life.

I think Maggie will have a good year in 2005. And the Maleeva legacy will live on perpetually with the academy. So there are more SESILATORS? Little ones glued to tennis rackets let us hope... :D

Yeah there are two more eventual SESILATORS. They are too young :baby: but we can already provide the glue - just in case... :D

Crazillo, sorry I am talking about Sesil here.

Crazillo, sorry I am talking about Sesil here.

Yea accept my apologies also. Just a Sesil fanatic that got carried away. :)

Dec 21st, 2004, 11:11 AM
No problem.
But Maggie's sisters have many children, too. Maggie said she has three nieces and two nephews or the other way around and she said they all play. :)
The most incredible thing for me is that every week for the last 20 years a Maleeva was on the rankings list except the time when Maggie was injured and falling off the rankings, but I think this was just very short.
When you read articles from the early 90-s they were much more appreciated than they are nowadays and that's sad, but hey, that's life I guess.
I think Maggie vs. Sesil would be cool, a run run run run match.

Dec 21st, 2004, 01:00 PM
hope that maggie will do good things. I expect her to win Istanbul next year. I invite her to Istanbul and she replied that she loves Istanbul much and she met a person who is one of the nicest in the world.

Yes, I read that on Maggie Answers, too.
I am not sure if she will come though. She didn't say that did she. The tournament is one week before the FO and she used to play Strassbourg or nothing in the past. I am really not sure.....

Maggie starts the year in Gold Coast playing in the first round vs Ukraine's Yuliana Fedak. If she wins in the second she'll meet either Koukalova or Hewitt
Quarter-final seeded opponent is Karolina Sprem

Go Maggie ;) :)

Jan 1st, 2005, 08:32 AM
Maggie, pls start the year with a final or something :wavey: (I am too greedy I know but can't change it  ).

Jan 1st, 2005, 01:53 PM
The draw is quite nice, the QF should be possible. ;)
Further: difficult, but it is MAGGIE!!!

Jan 2nd, 2005, 04:00 PM
Maggie overpowered Fedak 6-4 6-1 and easily advanced to the second round.

Jan 4th, 2005, 01:40 PM
in the second round Maggie beat Klara Koukalova 75 62 ;)
next opponent is Samantha Stosur :) :)

(2) Likhovtseva/Maleeva (RUS/BUL) d. Callens/McShea (BEL/AUS) 62 64 ;)

Jan 4th, 2005, 02:37 PM
Go Magma!

Jan 5th, 2005, 10:29 PM
She beat w/Likhovtseva Navratilova/Dechy in straight sets.

Jan 6th, 2005, 05:33 AM
We thought things have changed...
but Maggie lost the worst way she could today

62 46 46 to Samantha Stosur

Jan 6th, 2005, 10:12 PM
I don't think it is dramtic. Maggie played well and Stosur was on a roll. I don't think she choked at all this time. I think Stosur outplayed her in the end. It was the first tournament of the year and she did pretty well, I am sure things will come together soon. Also, she played in the heat which made it hard for her.

Jan 7th, 2005, 12:25 PM
She and Elena are in the doubles final without dropping a single set.

Jan 7th, 2005, 12:38 PM
Some updates from MaggieMail:

it's because I like to look for unheard news :-) Maggie will be working with Zoltan Kuharzky in Sydney and Melbourne and possibly later this year. She will also work with her older sister Manuela to prepare the big events and Pierre Paganini (Roger Federer's physical coach) will follow her on the tour as often as possible. It looks like a good combination as Manuela doesn't feel like being on the tour all year long (she has young kids) and Pierre will keep working with Roger and part time for the swiss federation. By the way Maggie won in the doubles today... As I said yesterday I'm sure she's on her way and this first tournament looks like a good start... There's an opened window for Maggie and she knows it I hope she will go for it!

Jan 7th, 2005, 01:19 PM
Good luck in the final tomorrow :D ;)

Mags could have been in the singles final too tho :(

Jan 7th, 2005, 03:00 PM

We know she could. But it was hardly a choke this time. Stosur in Australia is not Stosur in America or so.

Jan 8th, 2005, 01:02 PM
She won the doubles title w/Elena. :woohoo:

Jan 8th, 2005, 02:50 PM
Well done Maggie/Elena ;) :)

neither of them is playing doubles in Sydney tho
hope they'll play at the OZ Open together again :)

Jan 8th, 2005, 04:17 PM

I hope the same. It seems Elena does not have a regular partner in 2005 and Maggie doesn't want a full schedule I guess.

Jan 10th, 2005, 03:48 PM
Maggie through to Round 2 after a 6-7 (3) 6-2 6-2 over Ferguson.... She was reported to be bad-tempered yesterday and also sprained her ankle.
Hope she recovers soon..... Very unusual for her!

Jan 10th, 2005, 06:01 PM
losing a set to Ferguson :scared:

let's hope she'll get better in the next match :)

Aide Maggie :yeah:

Jan 10th, 2005, 11:22 PM
Aide!

Will upload them tomorrow!
