I predict Maria is going to develop consistency in big events and reach #1, at least for a few weeks.

I'm not quite sure she's going to win a Grandslam, though that's totally possible, she's one the 4-5 top contenders but she will be gunned at.

On the game, she's going to improve a lot at the net.

It's bloody hard to predict because you can't account for possible injuries (touch wood there are none) but my GS predictions would be:

AO: QF - She's not allowed to win this one, only Molik or Davenport can :D
RG: SF - I think she'll have a good claycourt season
WI: Win (I hope ;)
US: QF

I'd pick her to win at least one tier one.

:worship: Go Masha!!! Good Luck for 2005!!!  :bounce:

:fiery:
No Maria is allowed to win this one..and out of the remaining 3 GS's Maria hasnt won this is the one I'd prefer her to win the most :D

Maria definitely has the talent to win each GS at some stage..next year mightnt be as successful as this year but I think she'll at least be more consistant in her results. An improvement on her results at AO and USO would be important too. The draws will make a big diiference and being a top 4 player Maria should gets some nice draws which will hopefully see her through to the QF or SF stages if she can match her 2004 form.
Pressure will play a big part especially during the grass season but we know Maria can handle it..:)

No way! The only way she can win this is if Molik falters ;)

Then Maria can go on and complete the Grand Slam - including Aus Open '05 :D

I don't remember anyone going undefeated, regardless of age, not even Martina Navratilova during her peak years in 83-84. But something in the 70's for won matches for Maria next year would be great already.

No surprises, my prediction is she will win more Tier 2's and 1's. I also think she would finally participate in the Kremlin Cup. I just hope it serves as a "triumphant return" for her to the land of her birth, not necessarily in the sense that she wins the tournament, but that she is given a warm reception.

For the majors, I still think her chances are greater in Wimbledon (because her game suits grass best) and the WTA YEC (because a round robin loss doesn't necessarily end the tournament for her).

Australian Open - QF or semi, but I'm not predicting a win

French Open - 4R or QF. No improvement from this year, I know, but the French Open has always been the wild card of the GS, producing the most unexpected results, and where players of Maria's game often falter.

Wimbledon - semi at the least, and then a repeat final appearance and a win. I only see a healthy Serena, a healthy Davenport, Kuzzie and Mauresmo threatening her there, and I think she can beat them all on grass, especially with her confidence right now. But you never know, Hingis and Graf had 1R exits there in the past while being defending champions. I hope Maria wins it again next year, but she has to stay "on" from Day One. She must dominate up to the QF, both to save her strength and to scare the opposition.

US Open - same as Australian Open

WTA YEC - a repeat finals appearance and perhaps a win

For the grasscourt season, I expect her to skip Birmingham to take on Eastbourne, but I don't know if that would be good for her Wimbledon fortunes. If it was up to me, I'd stay with Birmingham and then take the break to be well-rested for Wimbledon, in other words, just repeat what she did this year.

I expect her to come back to New Haven to attend to some "unfinished business"; she lost her first match this year, after the tournament had used her to generate ticket sales.

And I still expect her to be out of the Russian team for the Fed Cup, regardless of her performance next year, due to whatever reasons/excuses the powers-that-be at the Russian tennis federation find convenient.

I would love to see Maria prove me wrong where I had low expectations, and to see her win where I predicted to win. Maybe that sounds selfish, but in the end, the glory is all to her. If it was up to me, she wins the GRAND SLAM next year, but I know that is quite difficult.

I believe she has a good shot at making #1 next year. But alot depends on the form of Amelie, Lindsay etc....

All she needs to do is consistently be able to beat the top 5 players and she'll be a great shot at #1.

Okay, here goes.
I don't expect 2005 to be one of her best years. She will be lucky to win as much as she did this year, but I thinks she will, both increase her winning $$$ and number of tournament wins.

Lindsay Davenport will be difficult for her to beat, so i don't expect her to win against her in a final, however, if she can beat Serena Williams again in a final it will be good for her confidence. I expect Venus Williams will come back and thrash everyone, just to prove a point, if she can, so don't be surprised to see Masha lose a match to her in the next couple of years, and there is a strong crop of new Russian players on the way up, who she will have trouble with in the long run, so I expect her best years will be in the next four or five, and after that not a lot of victories.

So overall, 2005 better than 2004, but not her best year, and Wimbledon? No I don't expect her to win it next time.

I hope she can do something similair to what Roger Federer did this year. I mean... have you guys seen Federer´s stats for this season? He lost a total of what? 6 or 7 games? Incredible if you ask me.

But I don´t think this will happen during the next season. I think she will win at least 5 WTA-tour titles, including 1 GS. And finish the season ranked 2nd.

I think that Maria will have an outstanding season, she has had a lot more time to view the other players tactics, and how to conquer them

I believe that Maria could end up as number 1 or 2 by the end of 2005

I'm predicting no.3 rank at the end of 2005 season, after successfully defending her Wimby crown. I also think she'll get her first tier 1 title. If everything goes as it should, she'll reach that no.1 rank without a doubt, I just don't think it'll be next year yet.

no doubt about it, she will be #1 at the end of the year. If you consider her performance since July 2004 she would be ranked #1 already.

Surely you guys don't think Maria's tennis will get worse next year?

Pearl275, you're predictions make Maria sound like a VERY AVERAGE player.
Queen Maria, you're predictions(original one) make Maria sound pretty ordinary and nothing special.

Anyway, we'll see what happens. I hope Maria proves you wrong. :D

My Prediction is that next year while it may not be as spectacular will be more consistant on the big stage. I think she will make the quarter finals of the Aussie open and at the french and US and will make the Semi finals or better at Wimbledon and i do think she will have a much Bigger impact at the tier 1 and 2 level and will finishe top 5 but it will be tough.

She may win a GS this season, but surely will not finish on top. A #3 is more likely.Davenport retiring this season (I think she will finish on #4) and Mauresmo claiming #1 and Myskina #2 (is she wins a GS she will be #1 for sure).
