View Full Version : PAW Fed Cup: Race to World Group 2005

Hi PAWers :wavey:

There are 4 spaces left in the World Group 2005, and these have been reserved for 4 countries which did not enter PAW 2004. Who are these countries? Good question ;) These 4 countries will be determined by the 'Race to the World Group 2005'.

From the 1st week of January, this race rank will be updated each week until 2 weeks before the 1st round of Fed Cup takes place (in April 2005).

This race works by the top 2 players from each country having their points from the singles rankings averaged. Those countries who do not qualify in the top 4, will enter Zone 1. As the current rankings will also be the same rankings for the 1st week of the 2005 season, I have made the list already :p

Please note, those countries with just 1 player - if another player joins from any of those countries, they will then be added to this race. You essentially need 2 PAW players in order to be on this race list.

Good luck to everybody!

Nathan27 - Belgium and Croatia have already been relegated into Zone 1, as the countries who finished last in 2004 were relegated.

This race is exclusively for the countries who were not entered in 2004.

Countries who finish from 5th in this race will be playing in Zone 1 :)

Then, the winners of the Zone 1 matches will play the losers of the World Group 1st round matches in the play-offs, to decide who goes into the 2006 World Group :wavey:

Netherlands - you actually lost a few points this week although you had good performances - this is because only the top 2 player's points count, and Silas and Jodie are not the top 2 players at the moment - however, this is by no means a wasted good performance - if Silas and Jodie have a good tournament in Miami maybe they could be the top 2 next week :p

Ranadalara - there is no Zone 2 :p

The Zone 1 draw will be out once we start receiving more committments, some teams in Zone 1 have already had at least 2 committments, we hope to do the draw by next week at the latest :)
