Hey guys, I can't believe I missed these when they occurred.I picked these up from Jon Wertheim and they kinda made me crack up. Anybody remembers any more hilarious quotes during the year? Last year will also be welcome.
Guess I better point out I'm into both Serena and Jen.....well, not completely, but someday, I hope I will, literally.
We prefer to play the percentages
1)After losing to Monica Seles in the quarterfinals of the San Diego event, Capriati complained that she was affected by Seles' voluble grunting. "It wasn't so much the noise as it was the decimals," Capriati said.
2)Give or take a few decibels
The inimitable Richard Williams on daughter Serena's comprehensive destruction of top seed Martina Hingis at the U.S. Open: "To be honest with you, I really thought Serena played halfway. If Serena's playing at 65 percent of her game, she's too difficult to beat. But I thought that she was playing over 65 percent. I thought Serena was playing at 71 percent of her game."

I'll agree - the Capriati quote is priceless (and I am a fan, BTW) I couldn't stop laughing when I read it!

I already knew this Capriati's. Just a stupid bitch!
LOL@Richard Williams!!!!!! If we consider this, how well was Serena playing in the US Open final? 48,6%? What an asshole

Not a quote, but a typo in an interview transcript. Check the next to the last question, where Lindsay is asked what Elena needs to do to improve her ranking, and the next to last sentence of Lindsay's answer, pertaining to what she needs to do in Grand Slams.
Well these aren't from last year, but they are quotes!
"It's not easy for me to live with, knowing that I'm Number 1 because she was attacked"...Steffi Graf,in 1994,referring to her former arch-rival,Monica Seles, who was stabbed a year earlier and was still of the pro-tour.
"She might be Number 1 in two years, but will she last five years?"...Martina Navratilova, critical of phenom Martina Hingis'1994 pro-debut at 14,and concerned she might burn out prematurely.
"The thing is,I've never really cared much about the tour.I play ,do press, then I'm out of there."...Steffi Graf, unapologetic about her total lack of involvement in promoting the womens tour, in 1996.
"Womens tennis is two sets of rubbish that lasts only half an hour."...Pat Cash,in 1987,the year he won Wimbledon. LOLI don't think he's changed his view since.
"I started when I was 4,but I didn't play seriously until I was 8."...Kathy Rinaldi, a 14 year old tennis whiz kid,after reaching the 1981 French Open quarter-finals.
"Equality? They ought to play the womens final on the opening day.Everybody knows who's going to be in it."...Jimmy Connors,at the 1976 U.S-Open,on the issue of equal prize money for women.
"You cannot be serious!"...Celeste,at the umpire, when he told her she couldn't play topless at the U.S-Open in 1984.

I feel honored that my quotation is included on such a great list! I wanted to make a difference at that tournament, but it was not to be. I even promised the umpire some action after the match, but that just got me defaulted. All was not lost, though, as I hooked up with Ivan Lendl later in the day which MORE than made up for my default!

I think these are pretty priceless as well! Read on hee hee hee...
"I got fed up wriggling around in my shorts looking for my balls"
(Andre Agassi in January 2001 explains why he has switched from baggy shorts which he pioneered, to the more classic tight variety!!!)
"I told Jackie because I had lost at Wimbledon I was pretty disappointed. I said, "We can't afford to eat anymore because Mommy's not doing well right now". I looked into her eyes and we were both hungry."
(Serena Williams revealing the heart to heart she had with her Jack Russell after losing in the Wimbledon quarter finals.)
