kusnetsova over Davenport. I wanted to vote maria over serena too. i think its wrong if the players are quite evidently injured that they cant suspend the match for however many hours when its a SF or a F

Administrator should close this thread.A win is always a win.The players must work hard to make progress. There's never the so-called "unglorious win " at all ;)

the incedent between sprem and venus had nothing to do with sprem nor venus, but I would actually have to vote bovina (totally no offence) against clijsters in the semis of gaz the france stars in hasselt

Serena over Anastasia (YEC)

easily Sharapova's win. A practically crippled Serena, up 4-0 in final set, serving lobs.
How can Maria's win be considered 'glorious' ?

I voted for Lindsay/Sveta, an injury is such a bad way to win, it's hollow... one or two bad calls shouldn't make too much difference.

What the HELL was she supposed to do, not win the match. It is not her fault that Williams got injured. Are we supposed to go back in history and take away all the win that people have gotten as a result of being injured. I really don't understand this board sometimes, you will come up with anything to trash on this kid. If Serena was so badly injured then she should of not played, I saw the match and when Serena hit her serves she was in all the points.

Her win is consider glorious because she won, just like it would if Serena had won. :fiery:

You say right selesbooz. It was not her fault that Serena Williams was injured!!! :) ;)

Please don't divide this thread again in two worlds: the anti-Sharapovas (and pro-Williams) and the pro-Williams (and anti-Sharapovas)!

PS: My two favourites Anastasia Myskina and Amelie Mauresmo failed in the semis and I was very sad that there was not my dream final Mauresmo-Myskina! I have accept this two defeats because the respective opponents were the better player but perhabs it would have been a lot better and less disputes in the threats with that final!!! :tape:

Her Wimby win WAS glorious, two able bodied fighters going at it giving their all.
Her YEC win was significantly UNglorious.

Would you be proud if you beat a 90 year old wheelchair player?
of course, a win is a win - but if you played two matches: one against a player of your caliber and one against a 90 year old wheelchair player. You win both matches.

Which one would you take more glory from ?

I voted for Kuznetzova beating Davenport. No disrespect but Lindsay was well on the way to beating her before the injury. Credit to Kuznetzova for taking her opportunity and particularly for her reaction when she won, she was so respectful and gracious

Un-glorious....I despise Kuznetsova and her ugly-ness for beating Lindsay at the USO this year....what a *&%$ *I couldn't come up with an insult that wouldn't be offensive to homosexuals...*

unglorious is such a subjective word..im thinking some unglorious win would be a top 10 player beating a 500 ranked player love and love. like sharapova in her tier 5 tournamnets in asia last 2 months lol (just kidding, just kidding, she had a great year)

well. lets see:

1) Sprem def Venus. ok, it was completely unfair, but neither players said anything, so that, IMO, makes it somewhat ok for venus to lose. i mean, she did have 3 set points and she couldn't close the second set. if i'm not mistaken, she had set points in the first set as well.

2) Sharapova def Serena. too bad serena got injured. but maria stuck in there. maybe soewhat tainted but it wasnt a completely unfair match. serena couldnt hang in there.

3) Justine def Kim. well, under normal circumstances, calls like that would be ok. but this was Kim playing and she chokes. a lot. and that point dented her confidence. its still arguable whether or not that ball was on the line, but IMO it was. its unfair to blame justine for arguing cuz it was that close. they say a point doesnt make a match. that point did.

4) Capriati def Serena. this is the one folks. undeserved, unglorious...all the bad stuff. it showed jen's lack of gamesmanship, horrific umpiring and a tragic end for serena who was, in the simplest of worrds, robbed. when 4 calls go against you when the ball is CLEARLY in, it shows injustice. it wasn't even close to being out.

5) Kuznetsova def Lindsay. i dont see how this is unglorious. players get injured. unfortunately for lindsay, she did. she may have been in pain, but she didn't fight through it. many other players do. serena, venus, justine. pain or no pain, they fight. maybe linds just has a lower threshold for pain. but svetlana did pick it up later on so she somewhat deserved this win, though if lindsay wasnt injured, she may have well won it.

5) Kuzzi-Lindsay

I don't think you can call any win over an injured player unglorious, especially as the Sharapova vs Williams YEC match and the Kuzzie/Davenport match were deep into the tournament so the players did well just to get there.

I guess the Cappers/Serena or Sprem/Venus matches are the only real candidates for an unglorious win.

It was a very good win, But Lindsay was looking good to take the match. An east 1st set, beaten fair and square in the second but the third would have been all Lindsay if not for the injury. She was 3-0 up in that set but by the end she could hardly move.

But that's not to call it an unglorious win, especially since Kuzzie went on to that the title. That's just about as glorious as you can get!

you're really dumb if you think there's no significance to the wta yec final... don't care who it's against or what confition they're in, it's a great win. was she supposed to lose to make you happy? was she supposed to not get excited at all? sorry, not gonna happen. get used to seeing the excited sharapova taking people down because there's a few more years of this in the making.
