View Full Version : They've Created A Monster!

After watching Maria and her fathers behavior last nite I see a egotistical asshole in the making. Serena is arrogant but not in a evil way. Richard said outragious things but Richard was funny about it. The fist pumps when Serena made double faults, the father cursing at someone in the audience and running to the court was horrible behavior yet the commentaters said nothing. She didn't even acknowledge Serena im her speech. Do you really believe if Clijsters and Henin were playing she would have gotten this far? With all the media hype and constant ass kissing by the commentaters a monster has been created.

There's always two sides to a story. It's unfair to judge a person that we really dont know on a personal level. But so far, he has done a great job in regards to the tennis career of his daughter.

ive thought this for a while...i sense yuri could become another damir dokic!!

and i dont mind sharapova....i like her...think she has grit and dertemination and a good game..she needs time to develop it more and become a complete player.....but the media are luring her into a false pretence

Yuri Sharapov is a complete asshole indeed. We didn't need his last night's behavior to discover this.
I don't think Maria is a monster. She's very fierce when in play but I heard more than once from fans and journalists that she was the sweetest lady offcourt. I don't know her personally though, so my opinion is worth nothing ...
I find her on court attitude a little bit excessive but I don't find that worse than some ladies whose favorite sport after tennis used to be to diss their opponents in press conferences.
And probably, the more experienced and confident in her tennis she will become, the less we will see all this attitude.

The media shouldn't reallie show her father walking up the stands after he hugged Maria, what is the pt actually? Cameras should have been on maria or serena during that time, stupid media trying to create controversy

Yuri should really leave the court for the players and have a behavior worthy of his daughter's talent and achievement.

The same could be said regarding Mr. Williams. Unfortunately, a new monster has arisen, from Russia, no less.

Maria's an awesome player, but she's so goddamn cold (not that that's a bad thing in tennis, but i just can like her as a person). And it really is her father's fault. All she's done her entire life is hit tennis balls. She hasn't experienced stuff that all teenagers experience.

What do you mean by "cold" ?
It seemed to me that people usually reproach her the contrary of being cold ...

I think many TV commentators commented on Richard's behavior. (and basically, they didn't think it was appropriate). I will see, if these same commentators say anything about Maria's father.

It will be fun to see if there are double standards . . . .

Frankly, I have not been involved in watching the hype. So I am not really bothered by it.

It's not easy coming out of Syberia and trying to flee from Russian Maffia, working like a slave in the USA & supporting your family with this...you get a littelbit strange...warm russian familylife, cold mask / cold american familylife, warm mask....it's a bit hypocrit....serena's parents are nice types ?!!! huh.. Maria's an awesome player, but she's so goddamn cold (not that that's a bad thing in tennis, but i just can like her as a person). man, the two other supposed "superbitches" of the wta (Serena and Henin) are sweethearts in comparison. one thing you cant say about Serena is not acknowledging the opposition after winning a title. same thing about Henin.

hope the two best players of the wta return injury free next year.

Serena - "I played at 20%" on losing to Maria at Wim
Henin - "Kim played a GREAT match" on 6-0 6-4 win

Maria is not hypocritical, and she doesn't talk garbage either. Serena, Karatancheva all got what they deserved, on court.

Ha! lolo, your take (or is it SPIN) on the events is interesting.

To me it appeared that Maria's father was assaulted and heckled for celebrating his daughters victory.

That mob-like atmosphere from the serena fans was unsettling.
I've never seen people running up the aisles like that shouting obscenities at the opposition on the court.

I was truly concerned for Maria's safety there.

er. don't get it twisted. what serena says about herself isnt the same as what she says about another player  since i'm so sick of people jumping on the bandwagon, i did the research for you, just so you know you're talking absolute poop.

Q. Do you think you just caught a player today that was really, really hot?

SERENA WILLIAMS: I think she played her best tennis today, and for the whole tournament, for sure. You know, it's normal. When I play people, they normally play their best tennis ‑ not normally, they always play their best tennis against me and my sister. So today I knew she was going to be playing really well.

Q. Were you surprised she didn't back off at all, no matter what the point, in trouble or not, she just kept on playing the same way?

SERENA WILLIAMS: No, because I watched her play and I knew that she, you know ‑‑ she's kinds of like me, she doesn't back off. She keeps giving it her all.

acknowledged and more than respected. i'll give you once chance to edit your words :)

That was very nice from Serena, but next she said she played at 20%, and a few days ago she said she didn't recall playing the Wimbly final, which is a total lack of respect for Maria

again, i'm talking about direct comments about the other player

i couldn't care less with what a player says about their OWN game. but then again, i think i'm a rare breed. that's the difference between me and 99% of posters. "lack of respect" to me isn't saying you didn't play well. surely, you'd know more than anybody else  it's commenting about somebody ELSE and THEIR game. if Maria said she didnt play well in Miami, i'd agree with her. not call her classless/rude/arrogant, because who am *I* to tell a pro player what they can't say about their OWN game? :)

Yuri Sharapov is a Damir Dokic on the making.

I sense those fathers who are too close to their daughter's progress are all going to screw something up sometime. Richard Williams has been an exception, he's been amazing on this point and he doesn't seem to screw it even once. Too bad he's racist.

Maria should be cut some slack for not acknowledging Serena in her post match on court speech. She should have remembered to mention Serena and her great effort or someone should have reminded her to say something about Serena the way Sue Barker did after the Wimbledon final. But Sue Barker wasn't there to remind Maria to talk about Serena like she did in the Wimbledon post final ceremony. Masha barely remembered to thank her mom and she was talking about the Beslan, Russia tragedy and that probably got Masha off course on her speech. Her head was spinning from such a big occasion and she was thinking of more important things than tennis. She also forgot to mention Nick Bollettieri too and Masha has trained at Bollettieri's for over 10 years.

That's very true, Cat. If Maria had been prompted by an interviewer as Serena was in SJW's example, I'm sure she would have mentioned Serena's fight. As it was, Maria was quite nervous and excited and simply forgot. Is that really so terrible?

It's really sad what these tennis parents do to their kid's careers. I hope Maria doesn't become the next victim of this syndrome. They should all take a page out of Richard Williams's book and learn how to be a tennis parent. you can be on the scene, and you can be happy about your childs success, but you don't have to cross the line. You look like a fool doing anyway. Everything comes out after a while, though. Let's hope that Maria can survive and not be a victim.

Maria fans be grateful that many of the media and fans, know that she will one day be #1. Williams fans had to hear the They will never win a title, they will not become#1.. bla blah blah.

Maria, is a tennis champ in the making.

Top dogs always get hated on. Some like my favs get hated on cause of their complexion.

Anyway, it will be fun as a sports fan to see Maria lose. I want her to lose next year.

It is weird, but just like I saw Dallas get a beat down last night, so too will I enjoy seeing Maria get one.

Then when she is humbled I will then cheer for her again.:)

She didn't play amazingly as far as technique is concerned, lot of errors, double faults et al, but the heart she brought in all the tournament is amazing. Girl is 17 and was playing her 72nd match of the season in the final and won it in such dramatic circumstances, the least we can say is that it was amazing.
