I didn't like when Richard did that, but at least Venus won against a player who wa not injured. To do what he did tonight shows what classless trash Yuri Sharapov is and I hate myself for saying this, but Damir Dokic is looking prettry good right now.

She has just won her biggest ever WTA tournament, She finally did something that will completely stop the talks about her W win being a fluke.. She confirmed herself as a major champion.. If you don't understand the importance of all that, there is nothing here to talk about. Whether she beat healthy Serena or injured Serena or any other Serena doesn't matter. She badly needed this title, this result.. She will be #1 next year.

I do, however, think it's disrespectful for the winner and her family to celebrate a victory over an obviously injured player like they did something fantastic. Or, like it was so hard fought. We don't know what prompted the angry explosion ... he was on his way back to his seat after running onto the court, so maybe in his excitement he stepped on a few toes and they were all like, "Watch where you're going jerkoff." And of course he's not gonna take that. Or maybe someone said, "Calm the fuck down and show some respect." But that's all speculation. We just saw his reaction to something that was obviously said to him or about him.

Well said TC and ys. Masha will become more independent as she matures and her father will have to accept that and hopefully he will become less visible. And Masha did need the YEC championship to solidify her historic Wimbledon triumph. And let's not forget Masha has won a grand slam singles title, The YEC and most likely the player of the year honors while still playing under the WTA AER and that makes her accomplishments even more spectacular than they already are. Her great accomplishents this year while playing under to WTA AER might never be done again in women's tennis.

I also give credit to Serena Williams for playing with great heart and desire in the YEC final. :D She could have quit after she was injured but she forged ahead and still almost won.

I do recall that, however, Richard didn't go all the way on the court, he was on the sidelines near where the players sit. Yuri went all the way out on to the court. But, I do agree with you, fathers should keep their asses off the court, especially when the winner didn't do anything spectacular. :rolleyes:

Just wanted to say, all Yuri's craziness aside (and the man is a bit high-strung to say the least), I sat through a few of Maria's practice sessions this week and witnessed the great relationship between Maria and her dad. They were laughing, joking around with each other, playing football tennis with each other. Regardless of his antics, he seems to be a good dad and I didn't notice any mistreatment, yelling, etc.

That said, if he walked on the court again after I won a match like that I would ground him for a week without allowance.

I take it that the thread title is a bit of a hyperbole.

I wonder if Maria is counting down the days til her 18th birthday. :scratch:

I'm sure Maria loves her father, but she must be dying to gain some freedom and independence from both, her father and IMG (i.e. Big Brother), to do what she actually wants. Instead of always doing what's expected of her. :)
