Katie plays wildcard Eva Hrdinova in the opening qualifying round of Dubai. Seeing as Hrdinova has a 1-3 record this year so far, including a loss in Paris a couple of weeks ago to someone ranked in the 300's, Katie should win this :scared: Potential second round tie against Bally or top seed Agnieszka Radwanska

What's with the :help:? That's a pretty good draw. Savchuk always struggles against Brits. She barely beat a pregnant Amanda Keen on Clay.

But that is the thing. She always ends up finding a way to beat the Brits. And seeing as Katie's last two matches haven't been the best she has played, it's looking as if she will be down and out. Then again, we did think similar things at Tashkent last year. Maybe the Fed Cup Katie will show up tomorrow

jonny84
Mar 3rd, 2008, 09:29 PM
I think Savchuk is a good draw - could have been much worse.

They have not played before, so I think its quite even stevens. Savchuk isnt ranked much higher than Katie. They have both won just 4 matches this year each, so it could go either way. Lets hope Katie wins!

Lost 6-4 6-4 to Barbora Zahlavova Strycova. After leading *2-0 40-15 it just all went wrong. 15 double faults and she couldn't do anything on Strycova's serve. If Katie had a decent serve, she could have possibly won it or at least made it closer. Better luck in Miami girl

well she lost to Gagliardi in Monzon 1 and 2, which is terrible. She's not even making it close. Probably had double faults in the double figures again, wouldn't suprise me anyway..

2 $25k wins away from top 100 roughly, and she's going the other way.Losing to Ostertag is ridiculous, but if she'd beaten Savchuk she'd be almost there.

She doesn't need a good serve, she just needs to get her serve into play. That'd give her more of a chance. A professional player ranked so high serving 15 DF's consistantly is beyond belief!! Hit it slower, serve underarm, just get the damn thing in! Although i suppose she should be praised for her consistency as it's one thing the brit's generally lack

Liking the new thread title  Katie might soon make it up to the Kourniova standard of serving!

Katie is one of those players who, when she is playing well, can be pretty decent, but when things go wrong, it is just ugly. She can compete with a lot of girls, its just that with her game she can make too many errors and not let herself get back into matches. Hopefully she can have some success out in Japan again

it has been disappointing, and she did well in Melbourne, but it's the fact she's lost to Ostertag in straights in a $25k, losing to Savchuk having 3 MP's and serving 15 DF's which is the worst and most annoying thing. Now she's not even got close to Naomi or Gagliardi in the past two weeks

Better than what I though, especially seeing that Benesova won a $50K on clay, losing about 3-4 games per match, then the Torhout final, Estoril final and Prague QF. Decent showing by Katie on her least favourite surface. Points won behind first serve was low at the 50% mark, so maybe that is an area to work on. Good showing Katie, GL for French Open

Bit of a lengthy list, but anything is possible: Loit, Muller, Rodina, Morita, King, Sanchez, Bremond, Yuan, Savchuk, Suarez Navarro, Foretz, Obziler, Cohen-Aloro, Johansson, Kremer, Yakimova, Fedak, Wozniak, Martinez Sanchez, Camerin, Olaru, Rybarikova, Santangelo, Sequera, Sfar, Pavlyuchenkova, Pandzic, Gajdosova, Zheng, Stosur

I actually think she has a half decent chance of coming out of Roland Garros in the top 100. That list might be lengthy but if you look at who they're playing then it's not so bad.

Loit vs. Yan - (Loit has been awful this year. Yan should win this)
Muller vs. Knapp- (Neither one playing well but Knapp is better)
Rodina vs. Sharapova- (Enough said)
Morita vs. Szavay- (Morita is very talented but Szavay is in another league)
King vs. Huck - (King will most likely win this)
Sanchez vs. Gajdosova- (Gajodosova will most likely win this but still won't overtake Katie)
Bremond vs. Pandzic - (Bremond should win this but don't underestimate Pandzic)
Yuan vs. Kanepi- (Kanepi should win this)
Savchuk vs. Mauresmo- (You never know with Mauresmo these days but I'll pick her)
Suarez Navarro vs. Parmentier- (Being that its in France I'll give Parmentier the edge)
Foretz vs. Zvonareva- (Zvonareva's playing too well right now to lost to Foretz)
Obziler vs. Venus- (See Rodina)
Cohen-Aloro vs. Olaru- (Cohen-Aloro might have the slight edge)
Johansson vs. Serena- (See Rodina and Obziler)
Kremer vs. Cirstea- (Kremer hates clay and Cirstea is a promising player)
Yakimova vs. Wozniacki- (Wozniacki is playing too well right now)
Fedak vs. Govortsova- (Govortsova improving every week and should be too strong for Fedak)
Wozniak vs. Bammer- (Can't see Bammer losing this)
Martinez Sanchez vs. Medina Garrigues - (AMG just won a title so is in form)
Camerin vs. Kirilenko- (Kirilenko is playing just well enough to take this one)
Rybarikova vs. Sprem- (Depends which Sprem shows up)
Santangelo vs. Zheng- (Zheng must be playing well to qualify)
Sequera vs. Cibulkova - (Cibulkova loves clay and is in great form)
Sfar vs. Venus/Obziler - (Great run for Sfar but this is the end)
Pavlyuchenkova vs. Salerni - (Pavlyuchenkova might sneak this one out)
Stosur vs. Peer- (Can't see Stosur beating Peer on clay)

I bolded who I thought would win and of the ones I picked only King and Bremond would overtake Katie with a win in the first round leaving Katie at 100 exactly! ;)

Now let's hope it all goes according to plan! :p

Loit beat Yan 8-6 final set  Katie now down to #99
Muller, Morita, Bremond out

From my calculations, these players need to reach round 2
Rodina, King, Sanchez, Yuan, Savchuk, Suarez Navarro, Foretz, Obziler, Cohen-Aloro, Kremer, Fedak - would go level on points

Round 3:
Wozniak, Martinez Sanchez, Camerin, Olaru

Round 4:
Johansson, Rybarikova, Santangelo, Pavlyuchenkova, Pandzic

QF:
Sequera, Sfar, Gajdosova, Zheng, Stosur, other French WC's

Katie/Stosur

Katie is blonder and fitter-looking than last time I saw her. However, for me, the result was never really in doubt. Katie definitley has the shots, serve & movement - the problem was that she was rarely able to have it all at the same time, and when she did, it was for little more than a couple of games. It seemed like there was always something failing - notably the serve towards the end.

I'd say she doesn't look out of her depth with the girls ranked around the top 100 mark - I guess the issue is getting a bit more consistent in terms of having everything working at the same time. It was always going to be a big ask to defend the Q+R2 points from here from last year, especially being WC into main draw. Even if she doesn't defend any Wimbledon points, I agree that it might not be such a catastrophe in the long term to find herself ranked around 150 and go for a mix of higher ITFs and lower level ITFs. Like I said, by no means does she look like some past players have when they've won a flukey round at a slam and are playing way above their weight for the following year.

Stosur wasn't playing like somebody who'd been off for a fair while with various ailments. Her serve is impressive and there were a fair few amazing touch volleys.

I felt bad for Katie at the end - she's a top girl though and even stopped to sign a sig for somebody on her way off. Really hope she can get a win next week.

Went up *2-1 and *3-2 in the second, but was broken quickly both times. Had plenty of opportunities at 3-3* to break but couldn't convert and ended up out of the event. Fingers crossed for a LL spot. Maybe we should go out there and make 12 players have a 24 hour vomiting bug to make sure Katie gets an LL place ;)

And it was an easy win! 6-1 6-3 over Jorgelina Cravero who had just won a $25K hardcourt event. Potential 2nd round match against Yanina Wickmayer who she beat at the Aussie Open qualies :D

Katie has drawn third seed Meng Yuan in the opening round of the Cincy qualies. Fingers crossed Katie can get the better of this moonballer

Moonballer Meng wins again. Katie holds twice (I think) in a 6-2 6-2 defeat. At least moonballers like Smashnova had some talent
